Is he actually a bad guy or is it morally ambiguous?

Not the way I would have written it. I would have had Marvel Jetfire have his personality component taken from this Decepticon Skyfire, like how the Combaticons existed on Cybertron in the cartoon and were then rebuilt on Earth. It would be retconned that the Matrix did not simply create life out of nothing and used existing personality components to create a body for.

Now I think my personal canon will have Decepticon Skyfire have the same story as cartoon Skyfire, who would become an Autobot like cartoon Skyfire did. So there would be an Autobot Jetfire running around alongside Autobot Skyfire.

Wow I just finished it and this is almost exactly what Furman did, except
it's the same Jetfire/Skyfire. He's nearly destroyed and Shockwave saves his brain module, vowing to someday bring him back. So Jetfire being built in the original series is retconned to this Skyfire being rebuilt into a new body, a la the memory engrams thing in Rock n Roll-Out. I'm expecting the same thing will happen with Ultra Magnus, he'll die and his origin in Target: 2006 will be retconned into being a rebirth.

This will be something that can tie into the marvel us run and not have to read regeneration 1 right?

I didn't grow up with or read the Marvel G1 run, but this was still an enjoyable read. Anything that you may miss in terms of references from these issues can be filled in with tfwiki. Like how Jetfire was built on Earth or that Megatron wanted to put giant engines on Cybertron. Overall a fun read and I'm excited for the next issue.

This comic reminds me a bit of "Solo: A Star Wars Story". Something that didn't really need to exist, explaining stuff nobody ever asked about... But in the end, it's harmless fun and something pretty to look at. 6/10.

Funny to say that something so thoroughly rooted in the past is breath of fresh air, but there it is. The art is basically PERFECT to me (characters look like who they are supposed to look like without gobs of extraneous detail, fun throwbacks to the Nel Yomtov style of blocking out background characters with flat color, etc.). The story is interesting (if unessential, as indicated above). I'm just happy to have MY Transformers back, if even only for a minute.

so for those that have read it, how well does this fit with the marvel stuff? more or less seamlessly than 84 #0?

Not thrilled with this retcon, but I have to admit that
it explains how Jetfire can be talking about how they play basketrek on Cybertron when talking to Donny Finkleberg

    Same level.

Arguably, Marvel G1 Jetfire had a hard time trying to fit with himself anyway. See the post above.

Well, if you want to accept stuff like the Dinobots having been the Dynobots, Skyfire being essentially rebuilt into Jetfire (later on) and a couple of other squint and you won't mind issues, it's fine. The only real "problem" I had with issue zero was the fact that Optimus was capable of such a stone cold decision... which doesn't really gibe with my interpretation of him, but YMMV.

Good to know. I recently started reading the marvel uk run for the first time, up to about the introduction of the special teams, and I noticed some conflicting stuff between #0 and man of iron, but not enough to throw me out of it.

Yea, that was a very cold move on Prime's part, but given the circumstances I thought it was at least rationally thought out

    and
him calling Bumblebee a "kid" that one time too, come to think. Always bothered me, like "Jetfire I'm millions of years older than you, don't call me a kid".

    As to continuity...
This seems rather late in the pre-Arklaunch timeline for Swoop to still be called Divebomb. The issue with the Predacon who took the name is handwaved, but an entirely unnecessary reference that yanks one out of the story.

Like, indeed, the Jetfire/Skyfire thing and even the yellow Constructicon. Furman's trying a bit too hard to be clever, IMHO. I'd rather he just tell the story, which on its own merits, really isn't bad.

Indeed, while there's clearly more to come in future issues, I really appreciate that this story is essentially self-contained. We need more like this.

That's nothing (spoiler not for my own comments, but to protect the above).
In G2, Kup actually spells out that he thinks of Hot Rod as a youth despite everyone being the same age (or so he thinks)

Actually, in retrospect, I don't think it DOES work...
In Furman's explanation text, he likens the Skyfire/Jetfire situation with the Autobots revived in issue #14. But those Autobots didn't need the Creation Matrix to be revived, whereas Jetfire clearly did (indeed, the lack of the Creation Matrix in Prime during the attempt to bring Jetfire to life is a snag in Shockwave's plans).

Again, Furman's trying too hard to be clever. He should stop that. His attempt to deactivate the Dynobots, yet still get them on board the Ark in time for the launch, is especially clunky.

    I'm a little confuse...,
After Shockwave removed Skyfire brain module, the later page shows Starscream talking with Skyfire. Is that the new rebuilt Skyfire/Jetfire???

The frame I think you're thinking of is a flashback. Note the rounded corners.

I read issue #1 (just released today) and I enjoyed it. I'm not super familiar with Marvel TF canon (I've read paperbacks of it in the distant past but not a complete run and my memory is super fuzzy).

I was very hesitant to buy this but I'm starved for content. Anyway, its a pretty clean, straightforward set up issue with the good pacing and good dialogue. I don't know if Furman does this but other writers from his era tend to bog the story down with paragraphs of dialogue and paragraphs of narration. None of that was here.

The nostalgic coloring was fine. I'm not sure if its my cup of tea but it didn't distract (too much). Artwork was on point. I get that it's trying to emulate the 80s style and it's fine. I enjoy Guido's artwork when he's doing his own thing and not emulating something else though.

If Furman can continue to stick to tight plots without meandering tangents and without bloated dialogue I would be down for this to become a second ongoing. It's a straight up action-adventure story with clearly identified factions and war setting. If you stay with KISS (Keep It Simply Stupid), you'll have a higher chance of creating something entertaining (at least for me, lol).

    Recommended!

(edit: I also dug that it was a very classic core G1 centric cast. It almost felt like a lost Sunbow episode with modern writing sensibilities. I hope this doesn't turn people off cause its a pretty good TF starter story IMO.)
