Well...decided to go ahead and preorder this guy. I thought about waiting to see if Target would just drop a link to Starscream, but it's not happened. If they do, and the price is cheaper there like Ratchet is, I'll just cancel my order and jump onto Target. Watching videos of this guy has been a good time, I really love the look, the transformation...I'm loving the whole thing.

I could have sworn that I pre-ordered this from Amazon Japan directly but I just noticed that it's actually sold and shipped by Amiami and I don't see an AJ listing at all. Which is odd because AJ does have a listing for Ratchet.

Normally I check for stuff like that so I'm wondering if the listing somehow changed. Or maybe I was too triggerhappy with the Pre-order button..... I have a few days to cancel so I'm wondering if AJ will list later or not. The price is still better by far than my local options so I'll most likely keep the pre-order.

Seeing comparisons like that is why I can't take people seriously that think this looks like the previous figures (despite obviously being based on the same design) or think they look better. MPM-10 certainly has flaws, but the robot mode is borderline perfect and the best transforming figure version of the robot mode design..

I mean, some people legit think leader optimus from 2009 looks better than the MPM... I will never understand that. Even if you don't think an MPM is "perfect" or "worthy of being called a masterpiece" (very subjective), they have all been easily the most accurate transforming representations of the characters in bot mode so far (at the time of their release, so not including upgraded KOs and that stuff), no exceptions.

I know I probably sound like a broken record but rubbery plastic has no place on a masterpiece "collectors" item. Hopefully Shapeways or someone else will come to the rescue.

MPM-10 is the best representation of movie Starscream hands down!

If we are speaking only of one of his modes, yes.

I can kinda see why some people would say that about Leader Prime. The chest and lower arms are the best argument for it still being more accurate, but the MPM's proportions and the overall look is more accurate. Someone here on the boards described it best years ago that the ROTF Leader mold is fantastic and always will be, but still feels like a "toy" whereas the MPM does feel higher end. It's just unfortunate it had the tabbing issues that it did.

For Starscream, it seems that a bit of jet mode kibble and paint are his only true issues. I think that the paint is alright and I still believe that people are way over exaggerating how "bad" the jet mode is. Yeah, yeah, it's an MP so it shouldn't have a whole lot of kibble. But come on, the robot mode is near perfect and it's still working wonders to make a well done but cheaty CGI model work in the real world. Unless it's on the level of the 2007 Voyager mold in terms of kibble, it's fine. I expect jet formers to almost always have kibble and lots of it and am happily surprised when they don't have much, or (rarely), none at all.

    Agreed on Starscream.

For Optimus, I think the overall proportions, as well as much more of the bot mode being accurate make the MPM a solid win for me. The forearms really don't bother me much and would never be a sole reason to go with a bulky older toy for me. I understand the "toy" vs "high end" argument a little more but then when you get into the fact that the MPM is just as solid in bot mode but WAY more posable and playable, not to mention having almost the same transformation yet being easier to transform, then the argument falls apart for me. The MPM is more accurate and more fun, IMO.

Oh I definitely agree! The Leader is awesome and certainly had its day, but the MPM is better.

Again, the Studio Series Starscream was released 2 years ago and manages a better jet mode. I’ve went over plenty of reasons why this jet mode possibly turned out the way it did and ultimately it seems sacrificed for the robot mode. That doesn’t make the jet mode any less disappointing. I say this as someone who’s been a fan of movie Starscream toys since 2007 and who’s been looking forward to this toy. Given that this is an MPM, I expected the jet and robot modes to surpass the SS figure all around, not just 1 mode.

And that’s cool that you think that! I am just saying that the hate towards the jet mode is a little over done. It’s still looks good enough (in my opinion) for a mode that was sacrificed for a fantastic robot mode. Plus none of the previous Movie Starscream figures have really nailed down the proportions of the robot mode. As good as the SS or Leader is, they aren’t as good as they could have been. And certainly not compared to the MPM.

I guess I just see it as a worthy trade off. The jet mode definitely could have been better but it is decent enough. I just get tired of the over dramatic “bUt iTs So BaD” when it really isn’t.

I can understand where you’re coming from but this isn’t an appreciation thread so it’s fine if people express their discontent too. If, by chance, Hasbro decides to make an MPM Starscream V2 with an even better jet mode just as good as the robot mode, you’ll probably see where fans like me are coming from. I don’t think they ever will make a V2 like that but I’d be glad if they did.

If this wasn’t branded as a Masterpiece I’d still have the same constructive criticisms but my expectations wouldn’t have been as high.

Oh it doesn’t have to be an appreciation thread! There’s nothing wrong with having complaints, I just feel that people have made out the jet mode to be way worse than it is. Yeah, I don’t see this getting a V2 and I honestly don’t even know if it needs it IMO. Plus it’s not even out yet so I’d rather consider that after having it in hand for a while.

To show a bit more where I’m coming from, I wrote this article almost 10 years ago:
    TFWe Issue 03 - July 2011

So you can see why I did expect more out of MPM10. Off the bat, the robot mode is clearly the best of all transforming movie Starscream figures, the jet mode to me, is arguably 2nd to the Studio Series/DOTM deluxe due to more visible kibble from the top. It has more accurate F-22 details aside from the visible robo kibble in jet mode. I didn’t expect a sleek underside the likes we’d see on a non-transforming F-22 model kit, I just expected better than previous mainline movie Starscream figures.

As stated before, I am slightly enticed by the price at Target($150) and the robot mode has articulation I’ve always wanted but never got in previous movie Starscream figures. The ankle tilt and thigh swivel will help a lot(sorely missing from the SS figure as I’ve found when posing mine).
