I am so looking forward to Kup and Blurr in hope their style would match the Siege/ER Line so they can join the existing Siege/ER UM, Springer, Arcee, Allicon, Q.Judge. Oh yes, my 1986 Movie bots is getting closer, closer to completion! Bring on ER/SS Hot Rod, Rodimus, Wheelie, Galvatron, etc.

I have to say, this is one of the most interesting debates I’ve seen on here. I think you’re both right a bit.

On the one hand, I agree that - at this point in time - G1 = Transformers for a majority of people. Which is just so funny for those of us who were around the fandom in the late 90s when more G1 seemed nigh on impossible (“trukk not munkee” etc.). I also agree that the Bayverse movies are objectively bad to terrible and probably strayed too far from the brand.

On the other hand, it is absolute FACT that Transformers would not be nearly as vibrant a brand if it were not for Bayverse. You just have to read Hasbro’s annual reports to see how Bayverse tie-in sales basically propped up the brand for a lot time. No Bayverse, no studio series, but I also doubt we’d have anywhere near as strong and varied generations and masterpiece lines.

You also can’t underplay the impact of UT and especially Beast Wars in keeping the brand alive at certain points. Beast Wars has been diminished in the past few years and, some amazing Masterpieces aside, it really seems like it’s currently an afterthought. But again, while it seems like a paradox, without a Beast Wars there might be NO transformers today.

In addition to the GI Joe comparison, I want to cite to another property: Masters of the Universe. While there have been a couple of reinterpretations and reboots over the years, it currently seems SO homogeneous and adult collector focused. I’d argue that MOTU is inherently a less strong property than TF, but even so, TF’s diversity is a strength.

In the space of 20 years, we’ve gone from more G1 seeming impossible, to more G1 seeming inevitable. But who knows where we’ll be in 10 years from now, and I’d argue that experimentation is imperative if the brand is going to continue to exist.

Interesting. I mean Jazz is probably Bayformers, but the rest could be 1986 movie.

Lately, I've been considering giving up on my Generations collection and solely focusing on Masterpiece. Out of Studio Series, I've only collected the Bumblebee movie Studio Series toys because I love that movie. But I can say that by doing this, it has kind of slightly rekindled my interest in Generations, and it might get me to buy more SS figures.

The happiest thing personally is that we're getting motherf**** Jazz. The holy grail for me in terms of a toy - all of his toys have either been stylized (RTS) or sh** (POTP, FOC). And the amount of figures he has is waaaaay too low in quantity compared to other legacy characters. He's been such an icon to this franchise and to see a character treated like this is just depressing. I also think his Bay design was one of the best, but compared to the other robots, he was especially wasted in the actual 2007 film. Point is, he's been treated super poorly out of the Class S Transformers characters. Hastak has this one chance NOT to screw this pooch up especially considering that Movie f-ing Jazz has had more love figure wise (MPM, Studio Series, Human Alliance).

And the idea of getting this to be licensed by Porsche has me so giddy because this could finally mean an MP toy of him.

I have a feeling that 86 Jazz is going to be based on the Pontiac Solstice, just like the live action movie. Porsche won't give clearance to use their brand on Transformers, but then again I could be wrong.

Jazz has been in alot of the cartoons lately though. He played a big role and had a great design in animated. I actually really liked his Power of the primes figure. His RID figure is probably my favorite from the line.

Considering how popular that toy was back in the day, it would be a cool homage/nostalgia trip.

They could have taken any transforming robot and story slapped the transformer name on it and had the same success which is exactly what they did. Very few elements from the original series made it into bayformers. Name slapping was still the thing to do then. Yellow car? Bumblebee. Sunstreaker? Who’s that?

I agree about his RID figure. Too bad I didn't really like the line beside the Decepticons. Those were fun as hell for some reason.

The only cartoon I really remember him being in besides G1 is Animated and RID. Animated Jazz was awesome and RID Jazz was... fine. Too bad the former wasn't a main cast member though - they usually appeared in one or two episodes.

In fact, I'm stunned they didn't include him in Cyberverse but considering what they wanted to do with that character, I can't really complain about Jazz's non-inclusion.

Point is, there's so much potential for this "too kool for skewl" character. I wish Animated had a fourth season: Jazz was awesome in S03...

And what exactly does this have to do with the current debate? What the OP was saying is that Bayverse revived the franchise and made Bumblebee a household name. Sure, it could have been Sunstreaker or Hot Shot. That;s irrelevant. It feels like people in this thread are just nitpicking the smallest of things because they cannot admit that Bayverse is as important to the franchise as g1 and beast wars were.

Just gonna say it again, Studio Series shift to WfC style G1 characters is the first sign the next batch of Generations is likely to start straying from it.

Yeah I know THAT. I mean I didn't know he was in the live action films. Hence why I mentioned where I stopped watching, since the original film didn't have any sequels.

Back OT: Why are they bringing G1s into the Studio Series lines? I thought that's what Seige and Earthrise were for.

Then that's all you needed to say in the first place.
