Just got him in today. Only played around with him a little but joints seem good and no damage that I could see. (He was outside in AZ 104 degree weather a while so that probably helped)

Now I need to get him looking like his original self.

By the way, the reversed leg flaps. I thought I saw someone mention a screw but I don't see one. Can anyone tell me how to safely remove the flaps and reverse them? Many thanks!

 

The only thing I didn't like about Tyrant was that he was a bit short compared to MST Optimus. Now grant you that may only be a problem if you mingle your IF figures with the rest. But I'm partial to Megatron as a tank versus a gun. That goes all the way back to G1/G2. I passed on gun Megatron but got the tank version (the colors were not my favorite but I like Megatron not needing someone to handle him).

Anyway, I reached out to @NOCV to see if he could design some sort of extension for Megatron. After looking at the figure I felt like the only viable choice was leg extensions. If his torso was extended it would impact the alignment of multiple attachment points when he transforms.

The parts themselves are fab. You take the lower leg apart with the screw above the knee. And this part fits over the peg from the upper thigh and has it's own peg to go into the lower thigh. I would put it in the semi-permanent category. the two parts that fit over the peg are glued to each other. If you could pry them apart successfully it might be reversible but certainly I would expect the extension parts would be trashed in the process. I guess it depends on how strong the glue is.

I ordered them in the smoothest plastic option and it didn't have the usual graininess of printed plastic. I'm afraid my painting skills lets down the actual product but I checked with NOCV before posting these. LOL

Mainly I had a hard time finding or mixing a color that matches well. I ended up going with a slightly weathered look that stands out more close up (in these photos) that it does to my naked middle-aged eyes. So the parts are great. The ultimate finish depends on how good you are with paint matching, etc. At any rate I'm a happy customer!

And this is after the extension parts. I failed to show it in the pictures but the original thigh swivel still works. Technically it also swivels at the bottom of the extension but I purposefully painted that new peg before assembling so it would have a bit more friction. It can swivel but not without effort.



And yes, he can still go into alt mode fine. The back treads of the tank sit a bit further back of course but I honestly don't notice it.

My Tyrant has the cracks on both shoulders but has just been on display since I first opened and transformed a couple of times (I also swapped the mis-assembled lower inner leg panels around. It hasnt gotten any worse and still holds tight.

My chaos raven has only been posed and on displayed (not transformed yet). Hard to tell since its black but I see no signs of cracks in the same place yet, and overall the figure's joint tolerance seems looser.

 

the Fallen which is the same mold is taller than Megs. maybe that could have been an alt option in bumping up the height?

The screws are hidden under the gun handle leg covers. Slide those off and you can switch the lower leg plates in a jiff.

 

The company that OS KO'd the Seekers need to KO this.

 

I just found out the tyrant's shoulder actually have horizontal hinge joint, Not just vertical
it useless and only can move in Alt mode anyways. in bot mode, don't leave it any space so the joints completely stuck. Just move the chest up and try it and you can see the joint there.

So if you cut the chest part around the shoulder era a bit and give it some space, it will now can move the shoulder forward, therefore can make a lot of more natural pose. Anyone want to joint me ?  
Yeah, it will be safer if we have a bit OS. Someone KO this please.
I swear this figure have a ton to improve and it seem like doesn't that hard to do. The wrist also have a hinge joints, but most pose need it vertical not horizontal. It they only can included one hinge, use vertical.
This is why i wish legend figure such as IF make deluxe size instead. Just slightly bigger, A lot more room to improve, yet the benefit of small size toy still doesn't change

 

Got this guy early this year but he was missing the little red missile pod hip skirts. Got with the retailer and they said they were getting in touch with the factory but haven't responded to my emails since then - any chance anybody is willing to sell those pieces?

just keep at it. it will take some time at times. but they will respond to parts questions.

 

As suggested further back in the chat, the Toyhax chest sticker in 'Labels for TR Megatron' works really well on this figure. Some delicate scissor work required removing two inner "loops", but easy enough. I also swapped the sets decepticon symbol for the smallest on their clear symbols set.

 

looks really good with the stickers. he just seems so manly now.

 

Necro-bump, but I'm a dingus. I recently caved and ordered a set that included this guy with no accessories (not even the fusion cannon)! Luckily, I've got Chaos Raven, so I can mix and match a little bit to make him respectable, but anyone have any tips for acquiring odds and ends? I messaged Iron Factory on Facebook, but that page seems dead. Luckily, between that Chaos Raven and Newage Megatron, I should still be able to have some fun with it.

 

find a seller that can contact IF if you don't have any luck with their FB page. the parts should be a very easy order for a bot like this. especially since he had a repaint in the past year or so.

i know IF is lightening fast when it comes to service. that is if you know how to contact them.

That being said, that alt mode is still kinda pitiful.
