Right. I thought RID of recent years was actually entertaining (some hit and miss) but the overall style is way more on the colourful fun side and kinda soft and easy for kids overall, but cyberverse seems like the same general style but I find the content to be quite bland and boring.

Happy for you that you’re happy with mediocrity and repetitiveness.

As someone who's been (begrudgingly) reading through this negativity shit-storm since the final trailer reveal, I can't help but feel like most of you people who don't like what we've seen are actually trying to convince everyone else that they shouldn't either.

I honestly get the feeling that some of you don't want me to like it just because you don't like it. And thats shitty.

I know, but look at Love Death and Robots. It's also a Netflix exclusive series of short episodes, and the visuals are better than fine.

I’m scrolling threw this thread and I see a lot of people arguing what the show is going to be like and comparing it to other shows lets just agree that we all have different opinions on what the show is going to be like And our opinions on other shows ok.

Hell, they don't want you to try it because they don't think they'll like it.

And here's the thing. It's fine if they don't think they'll like it. Trailers are meant to get people interested in something and if it fails to grab them that's fine. They don't have to try it. I was skeptical of Cyberverse until I watched it and I could see what they were trying and I have my complaints.

But it's like, fine. Stop there. Don't watch it. Go to the toy forum and focus on playing with the toys if you like those. You've made your point here.

Sure but if you base all your decisions on what you like based on what people on the internet feel, you probably wouldn't get to like anything. Conversely, if you feel like people having negative opinions towards something they perceive as negative are shitty, then aren't you doing the same thing you're criticizing? Like whatever you want! Unless it's like... drinking acid or kicking birds. Those don't seem great.

I think it's more people are excited/disgusted about the trailer, and when that emotion isn't reciprocated universally they feel the need to prove that their opinion is the right one in order to have a sense of validation on their own thoughts. That's a very human-nature thing to do. But that said... I dunno if any TF collector can say they grew up liking TF without catching some flak from peers, so I wonder where we started to learn the behavior. Maybe our hobby makes us inherently defensive of or love of it. Maybe it makes us inherently ready to decry anything that we perceive as disrespectful of the source material.

One can argue the people who don't like the trailer should leave, but why is their dislike less valid? Should the argument be made that people who LIKE the trailer aren't true fans, and so they should leave as well? Nah man, just be hyped/not hyped about the things you like and understand that any choice will be met with a certain amount of opposition you're not obligated to care about. And then don't care about it!

But, all that said, Netflix's Castlevania still sucked and people who like it are terrible people who probably eat children. :D

It could be similar to how Games Workshop used its IP with (mainly mobile) videogames:

really, what I hope for this show is something I can get through. Since Beast Wars, the only show that I've been able to fully get through was Prime, and it was ok, but kinda fell apart at the end. RiD, I think I watched 3 episodes, and wanted to stab my eyes. Armada, I couldn't even make It through the opening episode. I tried again when Unicron showed up and still couldn't do it. don't remember if watched any of Energon or Cybertron. I know folks have said it had good stories, but the designs of Animated offend me so much I couldn't even start (I love the DCAU but TFs cribbing that style filtered through the more exaggerated Teen Titans style is not what I'm looking for in my giant robots). Haven't seen anything from RiD'15 or Cyberverse.

I've always just hoped for a decent (but not GrimDark mind you) anime take on the franchise, ala Gundam, Macross.. even the Netflix Voltron! (I wish it was that Joaquim Dos Santos instead of F.J. Desanto that was doing this, when I first saw his name I thought it was). With this being a US originated production, I really doubt it will be that.

But I hoping it's at least watchable! That seems like a low bar, but most TF fiction seems to have a hard time scaling it sadly.

im probably going to get flamed for this but this is just my feelings nothing more and I understand reasons why they wouldnt . BUT If they are not going to give us 100 plus new episodes, why make up a new continuity ? Why replace the old one ? I wish they would have made this a story that could have added to the g1 cartoon story/mythos and not replace it. I haven't seen it so I guess its still possible, but it doesn't look like its going to fit. Sigh just Wish they would have made it able to fit with the existing g1 continuity cartoon. Just my feelings not really a discussion. I might try a free trial of netflix so I can watch it , hopefully that does help them make more though

This doesn’t replace your childhood, but g1 ended in the 80s and that cartoon does not hold up in any way

This is a half hour+ show, isn't it? Closer to Prime than Machinima.

My "never gonna happen" dream is to get a modern cel animated (Japanese studio produced) retelling of G1. The Sunbow cartoon didn't actually have interesting plots but I think the classic blocky G1 character designs are timeless and fun. That'll never happen cause Hasbro gots to sell new toys and it would be too expensive to hire a Japanese studio.

My "I don't know if this is a more realistic" hope is that Siege is a success for Hasbro and next year we get a follow-up with twice the number of episodes. Repeat this for a third year. Maybe an adult-collector focused animated TF series will remain a fixture on Netflix.

American produced animation still needs more time to grow and it clearly needs a wider audience of fans. The medium has done A LOT to expand in the quality and quantity of youth oriented material and adult comedic shows but the action/adventure material is still very limited and continues to center on capturing a younger audience. We've had good stuff like Voltron and Young Justice but that's it and those shows are still friendly to young audiences (I'm not saying that's a bad thing). The DC animated movies are lot more "mature" (blood and cursing) but the quality is very, very hit or miss and its the same type of stories (superheroes with ultra violence and cursing).

Maybe one day there will be a big enough audience of viewers for adult action-oriented American produced animated series...

Agree to disagree, no more need of discussion about it, it was just a statement and a feeling I wanted to express.

I would defend the majority of the writing and acting as doing exactly what they're supposed to do.

The music is a bit repetitive and the animation outside of TFTM doesn't hold up.

I'd be entirely fine -- even enthusiastic -- about it being rescored and reanimated using the original scripts and voiceover provided somebody puts some thought into background character duplication/placement and maybe they bring in new actors for some of the incidental characters who sound too much like main cast.

Take the Starscream lookalike who sounds like Rumble in the first episode. New deco. New voice. I'll buy the toy.

My only strong preference is hand drawn or Devastation style cell shading and music that uses the same set of motifs with an orchestra and a bit more variety.

Maybe rerecord lines to patch continuity errors.

When you get to the end of Season 3, do up a new finale with Marv Wolfman and Flint Dille and the original surviving voice cast while you still can. Because The Rebirth really lives up to the criticism of being a half hour toy commercial. Basically branch off like JG1 did with Transformers: The Movie 2 and tidy loose ends up and introduce Star Saber and Deathsaurus while maybe giving Hot Rod a more earned sendoff and pay off the dangling stuff with the resurrected Starscream. Let Optimus go Power Master and ride off in the sunset with Elita or whatever.

Maybe something that closes with Daniel having a kid or something to give the whole series more arc to it.

Well, you might get your wish. Given that Hasbro rehashes G1 almost every year, I feel like they’re not too far away from actually reanimating and rescoring the original cartoon.
