Maybe? It's a very brightly lit photo which is going to throw off some things. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with him in hand.

That I can deal with. It's the two-tone biceps that are killing me.

Two tone? The red and the grey? Isn't that what they're supposed to be? Or did I miss something?

Heh, I'd gotten used to MP36 and didn't realize his biceps were inaccurate. My guess is they're just following what Takara did with him.

This guy does look great, much better that the Newage one. Still not replacing my MFT version though, I prefer that size.

Well, if you're going to do that, read the UK comics. They include all the US material, plus a lot more.

I hate to say it, as a LONGtime Magic Square fanboy, but I'm not feeling this. The robot mode looks great, but it's at the expense of the gun mode. The NewAge figure may not look QUITE as good in robot mode, but the gun mode is perfect, and the robot more than good enough. Now that I've been able to see both offerings, I think I'm going with the NewAge figure instead. This is the second time this has happened for me now, for the same reason. The last one was NewAge Reflector over Magic Square's offering.

If any one from Magic Square is reading this; you make wonderfully accurate robot modes with incredibly enjoyable transformations, but your alt modes sometimes suffer. Now that you have competition in the form of NewAge, you need to up your game here.

I'm also a Magic Square fanboy but we have different priorities. Even to me Newage alt modes look superior most of the time. However ill gladly sacrifice alt mode for the best bot mode a company can offer

I would feel the same way if the robot modes were dramatically different; if the Magic Square one looked dramatically better than the NewAge. But they're pretty close; the Magic Square robot mode looks a bit better than the NewAge robot mode, but not dramatically better. The fact that Magic Square's gun mode looks kind of weird whereas NewAge's looks perfect is a huge deciding factor for me. But you're right; we have different priorities, which is perfectly fine. I'm thrilled that there are options for us to choose from!

I agree with this 100%. But I just wouldn't like MS to begin thinking too much on improving their alt modes at the expense of their bot mode. Same thing with Soundwave-- the back of the alt mode looks somewhat unfinished to me but I don't mind that at all for that handsome bot mode.

On second thought yeah, what harm can it do to pressure them to engineer the best of both modes

I'm in the Bot mode is more important camp as well. I wish the two companies could join forces and meet a little more in the middle. I especially feel the Datsun bots from MST could be better just by improving their outer shell. Not possible in all cases but in that one, I don't see why it couldn't have had a little more style in car mode. But for me it still won out because I couldn't get past the stumpy short bot modes on NA.

I'm really not gung ho for either version of Megatron. I would rather have a tank Megatron than a gun megatron. Even when G1 was a thing I bypassed the figure when I had a chance to get it. I like the IF version. I also think a Siege version at Legends scale could be fun. I've been tempted by the upscale KO of that just to pair with my MST MP scale Optimus since I doubt there will be a truly MP version of Siege Megs.

Still if I were in the buying mood, MST Megatron would win over NewAge for me. NA is nice but only if you look at it from straight on. My figures don't spend all their time staring forward on a shelf. So I will see that.

I'm going to wait and see what if any repaints MST offers for this one. I'm not feeling the color gray they chose for this one at all. Assuming the photos are showing its true color it feels off to me. Like there should be a little blue in the gray - more of a steel gray hue. If they do a metallic repaint like they did for Optimus, perhaps. If they did one more like the DX9 Dinobots, that would be ideal in my book. I normally am fine with MST's finishes but this one not so much. I normally don't care about repaints, bu this time, I hope they go wild like they did for Optimus. LOL

I prioritize bot mode over alt, but I don't want to "sacrifice" either. I love MS and have gone all in on their line but my biggest complaints about them are generally their alt modes. Bluestreak is way to flat and squashed compared to what his car mode is actually meant to be and the holes in front of the headlights are nonsensical. Beachcomber's alt mode looks kind of generic as if it were an afterthought. Soundwave is unfinished from the back. They're all relatively minor complaints and I'm still happy with those figures as well as the rest of the ones I own, but I still want my alt modes as nice as possible. I just feel like, if you're willing to sacrifice alt mode, why even have a Transformer? They could just make action figures.
