MTMTE RATCHET Day 7- Final Day Update He's finally DONE!! DOWNLOAD LINK: Download STL files MTMTE/ IDW Ratchet ・ Cults I've printed and painted the accessories for MTMTE Ratchet. There's one small accessory which will be Phara's fists that will come later as a free file on Thingiverse for this Ratchet. This has been the longest I've ever worked on a 3D Transformer and I think it paid off. I have him painted, assembled and put into my MTMTE Collection. Finally he's done. Below are some screenshots. Next up: MTMTE Swerve and Brawn! Day 5- Paint and Accessories After Ratchet had been assembled, I partially disassembled him for priming, and a white vase coat of paint. Here he is after that process, he is now being painted with his red, white and yellows. Tonight I’ll start working on his Heels and also his Med bay- which attaches to the front of his vehicle to make him more accurate. He’ll hold a wrench that should plug into a display stand-sequence joint to ‘fix’ bots similar to how Prime’s trailer works. More to come. Day 4 Update Legs designed and successfully fold up exactly like Generations Goldfire’s. There was a slight crack when printing the left toe so I’m printing a new one for him. What’s left to print are the wheels and the housing for them on the sides of the legs and he’ll be prepped for painting. A thing I’d like to do before painting is to find if there’s a way to make him balance better. Maybe try finding a way to give him a heel because he’s a little back heavy. Size wise, I’m ok with Ratchet. He’s a little big for some of my characters on my Lost light shelf, but scaling him with Brainstorm, Magnus, Rewind and possibly SXS Hot Flame or Calidus won’t be a problem. More images attached. Day 3- Update: Upper torso Complete: See latest comment for detailed update: tomorrow morning, I’ll model the feet, which should fold up like Generations Scoop’s or Generations Goldbug. Should be fun! Day 1— This is a little early in the designing process but I was impatient. So, after Whirl, comes Ratchet. I was meant to get an RID Ratchet on clearance and customise that but they were all gone. So I'll make one myself. Hopefully without parts forming this time. I've planned for him to be around 16cm tall, so a tall deluxe/ short voyager, like Earthrise Hoist. This one's a little more difficult to design. When it's a plane, most of the time, you fold the legs and lie the figure flat and you've got an alt mode, but when it's a car, it needs to be very compact. Once I found the rare Ratchet Alt Mode pic in MTMTE #5 I was ready to go. Progress Day 1 So far, the transformation involves flipping his head backwards, and doing a Robots in Disguise Sideswipe arm transformation for his arms. I struggled with this one, as his wheel are right at the centre of his shoulders, which leaves no other way for an arm than this. It makes his proportions funny, but hopefully when the waist and crotch piece is added, he'll look better. That Red piece on the right of the picture will his hands, I'll find a way for them to stay on during the transformation. I've exported the files about and I'm impatient, so I'll print these parts out and do a test fitting. Will take pictures of the prints. Again thanks for reading and Comments are welcome.
Thank you both kindly. Print will be up in 3 hours and there’s also a timelapse video filming the process of making this. Stay Tuned!
I've been looking at your stuff for a while now and it all looks so good! Ratchet here is no exception. I'll probably be purchasing all your various files in the near future because your work is very nice!
Just 20 more minutes and they’ll be out. I understand it was a little early in the process anyways. Thanks.
First Update: PRINTS ARE OUT- well the first batch. The first batch included the head, his neck joint, the piece that flips his head in, his chest, one shoulder and one wheel. So far, the head assembly works perfectly, just a little sanding, due to the nature of my resin prints. I had printed 2 heads just in case of any breakage but both came out nice. And the screw holes are fitted nicely as well. The Chest piece I’ve made a few ammendments and is out on it’s second print. The shoulder fits nice and provides and up and down movement. The wheel needed a little sanding to rotate freely but I’m happy to say that in his first ‘alt mode’ configuration his wheels do touch the floor. I’m happy about the engraved patterns on his chest and am tempted to even put in an autobot logo in but I think a sticker afterwards would work better.
His alt mode resembles my avatar in his alt mode from MMC? https://showzstore.com/mastermind-creations-r-39-eribus-gravus-guzzle-brawn-set-of-2_p1339.html
That's really cool modeling work! I think a symbol sticker would work better as well, as I think it won't get buried by the chest details that way.
I think a sticker would work best. Maybe a custom one to look like the MTMTE autobot logo. This whole thing looks really awesome so far. I always like seeing MTMTE prints that transform.
Thank you all for your feedback. Looking at the print, yes, a sticker would look a lot better, I've seen some up on Toyhax but I think I can make my own. MTMTE Plain Symbols Yes, I think he fits into the IDW category of 'Space trucks', which looks like Animated Ironhide in the way the chest goes up and the massive shoulders in the design go onto the side. I was looking at my Ratchet after assembling the parts and something felt similar, then I realised he had borrowed his transformation from Warrior Class Soundwave, who is also a 'Space truck'. I too lack a Ratchet. I've only got Prime and Animated Ratchet, but they both belong in their own shelves (Prime and Animated). Can't wait to finish this print, it'll will scale nicely with SXS Hot Flame and the bunch. I've yet to open my Hot Flame as he's back home in the UK, but I can't wait to put them together!
Update in Modelling: This is where I'm at right now in the modelling process... I printed out the second batch. This time the chest came out perfect, so did the waist piece, but when I fit them together the waist piece only swung up to a 45 degree angle and stopped as there wasn't enough clearance! I'm going to fix that once I'm back with the prints so I can measure how much I need to trim, then print that again. It seems that, again like the Rung figure a while ago, I have enough spare or failed parts to make one full non transforming Ratchet figure. A massive gripe I have with this design at the moment is the nasty nasty looking hinge the way his arms go out for and outwards articulation. You can see it better in the picture below. I can't fit in a ball joint as I wanted to make it resin friendly, and I only have resin. I couldn't possibly fit an outwards joint on his shoulders because of how the wheels and hinges are assembled up there, so this seems like the only option. I have these parts printed so I'll see how nasty it looks. There is one way to save it though- The hinge connect the shoulders to the arms do swing up a little more, and if I tiled the shoulders (Car headlight pieces) slightly downwards, it should hide the little gap. I'll see when I assemble the pieces. ^Nasty Nasty Joint. My other solution is to distract the eye from it being a joint by adding a front cover to the hinge, hiding the screw holes with a little tech detail. I also hope it'll look better with hands- which I'm doing now, it looks like somethings missing and the answer should be his hands. I enjoyed reading your feedback. Thanks for commenting! EDIT UPDATE: Took me an hour to sculpt these hands, closed hands are hard, a relaxed palm was so much easier but here's my go at it. I rotated the right shoulder piece the way I would in my print and added one small piece of 'muscle' on his arm and the nasty joint isn't so nasty after all. I'll see how it looks in hand. The right side on the render has the adjustments and the left was how it was before. I think the adjustments slightly fixed it. Still unnatural how his elbows go out so low though.
this is super beautiful work. i hope you can sell the 3d files for printer peeps to print! even if not , i cant wait to see more progress on this as it looks incredible already.
Thanks! I wanted to test print all the parts and come up with a review for him, but him and all the MTMTE/ IDW bots I already have plans to work on in the future will be available on Cults for £2. I’ll update the thread when the files are finally ready and done!
You can't make it a slider? Of you have the SD Him master Made prime, you'll see how the arm movesamoves on a mushroom peg where your elbow is. Have that lock and where the elbow would go, Use a slider?
Apologies, which Prime is this? I’d be more than happy to look at reviews of him to see how the engineering works. Thanks
