To be honest, I keep forgetting The Watchmen exists and I own the fucking thing. I don't even know why I own it considering I haven't had any interest in watching that movie since the day I bought and watched The Ultimate Cut.

 

I feel like a lot of Indian myths are very heavy on these subjects, wiki summaries of them don't do them any justice (but god I don't think I would ever have the patience to read any of them in full).

All that probably matters to know for now is that Snyder enjoys gods and their struggles/combat.

And gods fighting is cool. Check out this anime portrayal of an Indian astra.

But there is more to the story than that and as I said, it probably should be handled by an Indian crew since they'd have a better understanding of the story and how to portray it.

 

I haven't seen Gods of Egypt. Is it as bad as they say?

 

Eh, 50-50 in my opinion. The performances were strong, but the sci-fi vibe made it look a bit awkward. And the controversy over the casting pretty much screwed it over.

But what does this have to do with Snyder?

 

Because you said god fighting is cool and Gods of Egypt came to mind.

 

Japanese anime makers mutilating myths for their cartoons are pretty much in the same ballpark with Snyder, but at least he's not alone in this!

 

Dreadful. Everyone is not even trying to put in effort into their performances and Gerard Butler is just trying to redo his role as Leonidas. Plus, the plot is so cliche, paper thin and predictable that you can figure out what is going to happen an hour before it happens.

 

On the plus side, it's still more watchable than Oliver's Stone Alexander. But only barely.

 

How about you let a Bollywood director tackle it Snyder? You turn everything you touch into a bore-fest.

 

I like to think of Gods Of Egypt as a Go’uld propaganda film shown to Jaffa children. Because that’s what it reminds me of.

 

You want a real bore-fest? Try to watch this.

 

What you posted was intentionally made to focus on the part of the epic that is a philosophical lecture written as an exchange between two characters.


The Bollywood take on the epic as a mythological fantasy sword and sandals epic wouldn't be even close to this.

I'll disagree there. Alexander's Director's Cut where they rearranged some of the scenes and cut a few others out was a much tighter movie and was the version that should have been released in the first place. Of course, that still doesn't make it a fantastic movie, but at least it is a decent one.

 

It's not.

Still too long and boring even in the director's cut to work as an action epic, and too littered with inaccuracies to work as a historical movie.

 

Oh, I know it's historically inaccurate, but I don't watch movies to see proper history, I watch them to be entertained. If I want historically accurate, I watch a documentary. It's like going into a movie and expecting it to be 100% identical to the original book, that would be very boring, especially if it were a book like Stephen King writes. The man is a literary genius, but his books have too much fluff and pointless chapters in them that do not flow well in movie form.

 

This kind of defense doesn't work for this movie because it's not even a very entertaining motion picture.

I didn't go to watch 300 for the historical accuracy and it's a very dumb movie, but it's pretty to look at and entertaining. Scott's Gladiator is about as fantasy as is Snyder's Spartan Beefcake flick, but it's entertaining too. Alexander falls flat even with its delivery... Starting with Farrell not being charismatic enough as the main character.
On top of some parts of the movie being accurate and then others not, giving this piece a very schizophrenic feel.
