The Burtonmobile is in Setheus Prime's hands at the moment. He works for UPS so he has been doing a ton of overtime lately. But it should be done soon.
P.S.: LEGO plastic for example doesn't dissolve at all or at least not after just a couple of hours or days as far as I've tested it. Great to hear, thanks! I'm really looking forward to see it finished. The project seemed to somehow have went into hybernation.
I think the problem with my roof, and the reason I didn't use a different glue, is that I need it to fasten loosely and allow for some adjustment before it cures and hardens completely. However what I did here was use a small dab, as suggested and once it cured, I added some more cement along the edges of the seam to strengthen it. Since this connection will be load bearing. Luckily I have 3 of these (well one left now because I'm an idiot). Funny you should mention LEGO. I'm actually considering using LEGOS for the engine attachment instead of the magnets.
I would recommend JB Weld KwikWeld for stuff like that. Its a 2 part epoxy putty that sets up in around 5 minutes and has a really good bond as long as you rough up the surfaces first. Can also easily be cut and sanded when cured.
Not a lot to show, have been waiting for stuff to arrive. Got some Tamiya Smoke and am now tinting the windshield. Testing a lot to figure out how dark I want to make it. Also got some Bonecrushers and styrene to do this: Reinforced Roof #2 (it's actually #3 but who's counting?) New swing arms attached to the Proton Pack that attaches to Ecto. (also reinforced with styrene) 2007 Movie Bonecrusher may become the MVP of this build...
FINALLY! Holy Crap! I never in a million years would have predicted that THIS ONE STEP was going to be the most insanely difficult part of this project. After doing all this, it occurs to me that I could/should remove most if not all of the Ecto roof and install the Actual Convertable Monkeemobile interior. But honestly, I don't have the energy anymore. Once this is done, I'm probably off of customs for a long long time.
Ha! I feel that. The project I'm working on doesn't even transform so it really should be simple but I've managed to do almost everything wrong along the way. I'm getting close but I had originally considered doing similar projects and now I'm just like, yeah, no way.
Do it once just to do it Do it twice to get better at it Do it a third time to figure out whether or not you enjoy it You’re learning a lot here with this project, and it’s an ambitious one. Your future projects will get easier. We all want to see you finish this one and we hope you’ll be willing to do more in the future. If it were easy, then anybody could do it.
I've been following this one from the shadows for a while now. It's ambitious for sure and with all of the obstacles along the way, you've done one hell of a job.
I did a test primer on one of the heads. And as mentioned before, I ordered some Lego pieces from Lego.com. Apparently these ship from Poland (even though I have a LEGO Store basically walking distance from me and there's a literal LEGO LAND in socal...) so that's an interesting hold up. I still don't know if the LEGO pieces will solve my Engine/Hood/Guitar issue. But it looks like I'm about another 2 weeks out before I receive these pieces.
I've got some Prime(ed) Monkee-Head right here! Going to do some gentle sanding and then start on the detail work. Might have to enlist The Husband's steady hand for the eye-detail. Still waiting on Legos to move forward on the Engine/Guitar. Aside from that, I think the next step: Install the side exhaust pipes General Paint Touchups Gloss Sealer (Is this needed? Should I?) and finally the Door Decal! And then I think we're done!
Clear coat isn't necessary but it'll help make the paint more robust plus a gloss coat helps the car panels to look more realistic (probably don't wanna gloss the roof, though, as I assume that's meant to look like canvas). Plus it helps protect your stickers/decals and helps them blend into the vehicle's paint job. If it were me, I'd gloss the red car parts and leave everything else alone or maybe use a satin finish on the rest of the robot.
Painted the two Middle ones! (With help from the spousal-bot). And yes, those are actual glints in the eyes to give them a touch of life. We tried to accent one with a lighter green, but I think I prefer the plain dark hat.
