I just saw who the writer/creator is. Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites? Ugh... I just really lost my interest. That kind of nihilistic, vitriolic humor is not to my liking. The art style also sadly reminds me of those shows.
No no, that's the other show. This is the Nick show. There are two animated Star Trek shows in the works.
I don't know that one but yeah this looks more like a weird Parody than an actual Star Trek series. Not just because it's a cartoon cause there was an Animated Star Trek series before this. But the original Animated series which ironically was made during a time before mature kids shows were a common thing was more in line with the live action series than this seems to be. It wasn't a parody of itself, it was a cartoon because it allowed them to have more creative aliens things that they couldn't do in live action back then. And actually thanks to CGI a lot of those limitations no longer exist making a cartoon no longer necessary. Anyway... with that animation and a name like "Lower Decks" I'm sure this will only be parody and isn't canon to the live action in any way.
Again this is for the Nick thread it isn't lower decks, lower deck thread is here Star Trek Animated...Comedy...by Rick and Morty writer
Okay sorry. Search showed this topic first to me Star Trek TOS even had the same cast as voice actors and yes, was in continuity (Harry Mudd, Kang (or Kodos) and other characters from the show appeared on it too. The original TNG Lower Decks was an amazing episode, showing what our main cast - and life on the Enterprise D - looks like for the ensigns. This seems more like a “young hip people vs old grognards” comedy. I will check it of course, but my expectations are low. okay, but then where is that topic? Edit kay I see now
The serie now has a name Star Trek Prodigy ‘Star Trek’ Nickelodeon Animated Series Unveils Name + Logo – Comic-Con@Home – Deadline
Apparently the show is called Star Trek Prodigy (can some mod rename the topic?). Guessing not related to the band. It is about some "lawless teens" finding a derelict Starfleet ship and going on adventures with it. The creator made a CGI short film before called Codehunters... never heard of it. So I assume this is CGI too. https://www.herocollector.com/en-us/Article/star-trek-prodigy-finds-showrunner?utm
Looks like Janeway will be on this. Kate Mulgrew To Return As Captain Janeway In ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Given that last we saw her she was an admiral, and the show is about some kids who never heard about the Federation finding a Starfleet ship and playing captain/crew... I assume she will be either a hologram of the real Janeway, or she will just be in contact with them to send them on missions. At any rate, glad to see her back. Also just checked and the people writing this are behind the Ninjago TV show, which I really enjoy and has great continuity and characters, so I am more hopeful about this than Lower Decks.
Or considering they keep calling them lawless teenagers, she could be hunting them down to get the ship they “found” back. Which is federation property. either way this is done by the people behind the current trek shows, so I don’t hold out much hope. Plus the show has announced 10 producers, but no major plot points, focusing on the producers over the writers, no major cast announcements outside of Janeway so you can tell that plot is the least of their concerns.
'Prodigy' revealed as next series in 'Star Trek' franchise for Paramount+ .......yeah doesn't look very treky. Looks like they took a series they were already developing and slapped the trek name on it.
Yeah, that's about what I was thinking. Like it looks interesting, I'll give it that, but it doesn't look like Star Trek.
Yea, besides the name Star Trek being slapped on it, I dig the overall look. No idea why it's Star Trek, but I assume if I ignore the title, I'll enjoy it just as much as I did other shows that have done this similar thing. (That Netflix Spirit show, comes to mind.) It reminds me more of Monsters VS Aliens.
I mean, surely this can't possibly be any more terrible than STD, Picard or that Rick and Morty rip-off, right? Right?? I'd be lying if I said I didn't find the visual somewhat endearing, though the lack of a human character is a bit strange.
Honestly, the characters look like something you'd see in a Star Wars show... yeah doesn't really look Treky at all.
It looks a bit more Dreamworksy than Treky. Still, it’s gotta be better than Discovery, Picard, and Lower Decks, right?
They should have just done TNG the animated series. Would have been more popular and cheaper to produce than most of their other efforts.
I think It could be fun, and I like having almost all aliens this time around. The canon nerd in me is getting used to the lack of familiar species, but I like the design diversity. Besides, As far as humans go, they still have Janeway. Though a couple things: 1) Wasn't Janeway originally announced as an Inspector Javert type trying to get the ship back from this group, now she's their commander? And 2) they keep referring to het as "Captain". Is the Admiral Janeway canon from Nemesis being ignored, or is this right before? Or did she get demoted after some incident with some bad coffee?
