Is anyone else feeling this politician Megatron? Trying to control the chess board in secret instead of out in the open. Hiring the mad Shockwave and the Rise to make him look better? He's smooth as silk in the assembly and has teeth without showing his hand. He reminds me of Kingpin.
He's at least behaving in a way that is believable for someone like Megatron, rather than a mopey, emo, hypocritical 'pacifist' (which is a tad redundant since most pacifists are hypocrites sooner or later) who was really good deep down who just lost his way for awhile.
Well, he's not an Autobot, so that automatically puts him above the last Megs IDW tried to push on us. This Megatron is nothing special though, he doesn't seem to be in control of anything at the moment.
We're used to a Megatron that is a "go getter" not a schemer. Different, but not necessarily all that exciting, yet. If they wanted to flip the script I would have had Starscream be founder of the Decepticons, recruit Megatron to the cause, soon elavating as his 2nd in command. Through his actions the rest of the 'Cons begin to feel more confident in Megs as a leader as he continues to win battles vs the Autobots and in a confrontation with Starscream, the 'Cons decide unanimously to name Megatron the new leader and kick out SS, but Megs who was unaware of the coup, decides he wants SS to remain, thus begins the contempt SS has for Megatron and his ambitions to gain command of the 'Cons.
Not... Really... For me, Megatron, and most of the characters feel like they're just being pulled along by the story - rather than the characters being the ones actively driving the story.
Sometimes he's that well-spoken politician/cold schemer, which is nice. But the other parts of his personality are borderline insufferable. It would be great to have a Megatron who's evil, but also likable as a character because of his charisma, humor, or the way he interacts with his followers. This Megatron? Damn, I don't even know why people follow him tbh. He's angry and petty as hell. Even Cyberverse Megatron was more likable. Also...would it kill IDW to make Megatron a fun character? Or give him a personality other than perpetually scowling or giving monologues about philosophy? Jeez.
Current megstron is okay and I agree that he's better then autobot megatron which simply never sat well with me. But he's a bit all over the place. He hasn't grabbed me as a particularly charismatic leader or someone who could inspire bots to follow him. A lot of speeches and bravado but nothing awe inspiring. Not yet anyway but at least he's not an autobot.....
Better than the IDW1 Megatron , although that's not a bar set terribly high (and the IDW1 Megatron was ok for a long time until they sabotaged the character with this Autobot gimmick). Certainly much better than the Emotron from the tail end of their old run.
