I dunno, in the past five years or so we have mostly gotten shows that are more lighthearted in tone, rather than what we seem to be getting here and in TF Prime. Even Prime had a lighter tone than I think people remember. Not to say that a lighter tone can't work, Transformers Animated springs to mind in that regard, but we can't have a franchise that is about war constantly treated like Adam West's Batman. I'm not saying there is not room for a show that is more camp in the franchise, Batman is actually a good example. Considering how mature that franchise tries to be most of the time, they still take time to do stuff like Batman: The brave and the bold and the TMNT crossover.

Well, backpacks aren't usually intentional parts of Transformer designs. If they're there, it's meshed with the rest of the design. Here, it's just extra kibble due to the transformation and limitations of the toy. I mean come on, Prime is not supposed to have a big square panel poking out behind his abdomen. If it was intentional, we would have seen it on the box art:

There's a balance between grimdark and Rescue Bots.

G1, Animated, BW, etc all got it.

Some of the posters crop 'em but they're visible in all the motion versions

Wonder if Hasbro would go as far as "Kingdom Come" for chapter 3. Or if that gets a bit too heavy.

"WfC: Kingdom" on it's own would make about as much sense as "Earthrise" I suppose.

Agreed. We’ve had plenty of fun transformers shows for the past 4 years. I understand how some don’t want it to be more edgy, but edge would be refreshing. I’m over their war looking like a fight between the 4th graders and the 5th graders. Bring in the darkness! Just do it right!

    Why do people want "edgy?"

Edgy is boring. All it means is the robots will swear now. You can do a dramatic, mature series without having to do that. Again, Beast Wars is a thing. Watch it. That's all it needs to be.

Who says the show is going to be 'edgy'. It'll be dramatic, sure, but nothing was said about 'edgy', was it?

I also only just got that the letters spell 'kingdom'.

    That's... actually extremely fair.

Still, I don't think the toy kibble in this particular case is a deal-breaker or anything.

I totally agree. Why cant the cartoons just be cartoons ? Why do they have to put the kibble, hollowed out parts, and 5mm peg holes ? They dont have to be toys in the cartoons. Theyre supposed to be living beings.

"Intentional" is subjective. The toy designers intentionally gave Siege Prime that backpack, the box artists intentionally ignored the backpack (just like they used outdated figures for Earthrise boxart) and the show creators intentionally used the cad files for the figures to base the character models for the cartoon, so in that respect, yes the backpack was intentional

I don’t know about you guys but this looks like it’s going to be everything I have ever wanted from a TF show it’s dark, it’s set on cybertron, and it’s made by Netflix and based from the interviews from the writers it looks it could be the best transformers show since prime or animated also I don’t know if I’m the only one but I really love all the small messages they’re putting on the boxes and posters it really creative

for everyone who’s hating on this show read this interview Unicron.com

Honestly anything darker than cyberverse is edgy. I LOVE beast wars and that was the perfect blend of fun and edge.

    1. I completely agree but a part of me has grown to like it and call it a psuedo cape. It’s not 100% perfect as you can see the real grill and bumper in certain angles but you can excuse the compromise or just remove it if you don’t like it on the toy. IDK, I just don’t like him without it for whatever reason. But this really wouldn’t be an issue if Netflix redesigned the kibble (RIP Arcee in ER next year on Netflix) like what most animators do when they only have toys to work off of. So I gotta ask...

    2. Why did the Netflix animators pride themselves on using toy cg models? Like it’s one thing to be faithful to the designs people know, but it’s another to blantanly just reuse assests that were not meant for animation with no changes other than textures. Like were they not allowed to because of Hasbro (wouldn’t put it past them as they kept all the kibble in IDW comics)? If not, then why? Why not clean things up and remove or reduce the kibble and get rid of the 5 mm peg holes?

This has probably been asked 1000 times in the thread, but I don’t really frequent the thread so I apologize if it’s comes across as the same old discussion point.

Yes, the choice of them copying the toys 1:1 was intentional, however, the backpack is just a side effect of them doing so. It exists on the model due to them copying the toys—not because Prime is envisioned of having one.

But Beast Wars wasn't "edgy." It was just an animated kids show that didn't talk down to the audience. No different than anything Disney did with stuff like Hunchback, or the themes of something like Up, Coco, and Onward.

And that's not to say Rescue Bots treats its audience like idiots, it's just aimed at younger crowds than anything else so it's not going to drop anything to heavy on them.
