I liked season one fine, but season two got really inconsistent. You could tell there were multiple cooks in the kitchen because characters couldn't remain consistent, sometimes even in back to back scenes. Even Luke would go back and forth between being a snarky know-it-all type and being a retrospective thoughtful type. And then having him go full-blown gangster at the end was just a perfect finishing touch to how badly the rest of the season had felt. I honestly I'm happy they didn't get the chance to expand on what happened in season two. For as interesting as some of the concepts were, they really dropped the ball on the follow-through.
Season 1 was great till Cottonmouth died. After that it became a caricature. I thought Season 2 was OK, but Luke Cage himself was by far the least interesting main character in it. Wondering if we will ever get something similar to these shows again. Disney plus has said they won't show "adult only" programming, right? Maybe they will put it on Hulu? Probably not.
Just got into The Punisher a short while back. I'm enjoying it so far. I need to watch Luke Cage as well.
Only just got around to The Punisher S2. It started off brilliantly and got me so excited to keep binging. But, ti declined further and furtehr as it went along. As always, Bernthal lives and breathes the role and I liked his relationship with Amy. Curtis getting more agency and questioning Frank's impact on his life was a great arc. Ben Barnes did a superb job as Billy. He was a really good villain in S1, but he became a fantastic antagonist here. His level of scarring - both compared to the comics and given what happened to him at the end of S1 - was silly but the mental trauma and amnesia were expertly crafted. He really invoked a lot of sympathy at quite a few points and his complex relationships with Frank and Curtis were great. There were plenty of amazing action sequences throughout the season as well. But, ultimately, the season repeated DD S2's mistakes of having two main stories in one season which never actually crossover or collide, which left the season feeling very jumbled. Billy's plotline suffered due to this too, but the Pilgrim side of the story was the main casualty. Three-quarters of the way into the season, I was wondering what was even the point of it all and I found the scenes with Pilgrim more awkward than anything due to how isolated his role was. I think the Christian miltia could ahve been a great story (releavnt in some ways to today) and they would have been good foes for Frank, but it was substantially nothing for much of the season. Madani only barely beating a therapist was laughable as well - must have skipped her comabt training. I loved a good bit about this season, but its structural and storytelling issues can't be ignored. I thought it was unfortunately subpar overall and the weakest Marvel Netflix season.
F the Netflix Marvel series. 13 episodes of superheroes sitting around and only one in uniform talking about their emotions and woes.
Rightfully so. The only consistently good show they had was Daredevil and it too had issues. I'm fully expecting the MCU shows to be just as good as the movies are, maybe better in some cases.
Yeah but Marvel gets back the full rights for Daredevil next year, wouldn't be surprised if we heard about Daredevil in a new Disney+ Tv series or a cameo in a movie. Think Luke Cage is shortly after that. They could reboot or as popular as the Netflix series was bring back actors. I wouldn't mind seeing Vincent D'onofrio's King Pin dealing with Spider-man for instance.
I'll never see 'em. No way I'm jumping on Didn'ee's streaming service. I have my limits on how far I'm willing to go to feed my marvel addiction, and that was the limit. They own enough of the big media companies, they really didn't need their own separate monthly paid streaming service. I know, that's not a popular opinion, but a man's gotta have his own principles and stick to them.
I perfectly understand, I'm waiting mostly for the streaming wars to end and see who will come out on top before signing up for most new services. In the meantime, I'm using relatives passwords for some.
Source for this? All evidence I've seen points to Netflix being the one who stopped the series. Basically they didn't want to continue world building for what was at the time sure to be a major competitor.
Yeah, even both Jeph Loeb and the guy running Netflix have all said Netflix has final say on whatever or not they want to continue with the series or not, Disney doesnt get the final say.
Technically its this year that they get Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil back, next year is when they get Jessica and Punisher back
Exactly. Really, it’s not important and I don’t know why I feel the need to bring this up but Netflix definitely made the call. Now one could argue that their hand was forced by the announcement of Disney plus but it’s not like that was a surprise. It was inevitable and I’m sure Netflix knew that when they signed the agreements covering these shows. If the shows were super popular and/or critical darlings then they may have lasted a little longer. I think their status as the “red headed stepchild” of the MCU certainly hurt them. But they seemed to be running out of gas besides that.
It was more that they didn't want to promote the competitions shows. Daredevil was still really popular.
that’s true. Also maybe it wasn’t really practical to only keep one of the four shows going. They were meant to intertwine. That’s not a “Marvel Netflix” show though. Its on Netflix now but it was originally shown on ABC, which is owned by Disney.
SHIELD is not a Netflix show, its an ABC show The Marvel-Netflix lineup is Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders and Punisher
