Ugh...Smokescreen’s face... almost as bad as ER Megatron and POTP Windcharger. Thankful to have the Siege version, can live without that alt earth mode

 

I am glad I cancelled my pre-order of Smokescreen, now I have a chance to get Earthrise Pounce and Wingspan, and have enough money for Scorponok.

 

They likely gambled on us giving those little arms a pass the same way we always did with Skrapnel and a few others.

....Looking at him more in Gator mode, I'm willing to bet that we can bend his legs down more so that he squats and looks more "G1 movie accurate", which for some reason HasTak's marketing didn't have a lot of faith in, so they had him stand upright like a T-rex.

...Next eyesore are those Bot arms in Gator mold that stick out like a sore thumb. So if there is no way of pegging them into his sides so that they're not so visible, then someone in Hasbro's designer department should reprimanded. Waiting 30+ years only to get this as a Allicon is unacceptable.

Good vs Evil, a neverending struggle

 

You're far from the only one. Something definitely went wrong with this toy during development. And given what's been happening this year, I bet budget cuts were involved too. A reminder for those of you who forgot: Alicon was curiously the only toy revealed at Toyfair 2020, that was conspicuously unfinished. Most of the torso and arm parts were 3D printed prototypes.



And additionally, when we first got photos from Takara, these same parts were now pink test shots:



My suspicion is that, at one point, the robot arms were supposed to hide inside the torso in beast mode. But then plans changed, and they simplified the transformation for the finished toy. Such a damn shame, cause we've waited nearly 35 years for an Alicon toy, and we'll probably not get another one any time soon.

I will remove the pins & make the little arms removable. Very easy.

 

Probably gonna grab a couple of Allicons. I\'ll get Airwave on account of it being a new character. I literally just bought a Smokescreen so it\'s gonna be a hard pass. Maaaaybe an impulse buy but probably not. Skipping Arcee. The T30 puts it to shame. Good thing the voyagers and leader in this wave are good...

Yeah....Looking here ^^^^^, the inside of the forearms do have pegs that must tab into something while in alt-mode. So why in 7 hell's does the box art have the bot arms still sticking out in gator mode???!




Wow... Also didn't realize he's practically standing on his tail in the box, so he's also a parts former. Parts forming doesn't really bother me as much as it does others as long as the end result is decent. So here's hoping there's more to this figure than the box failed to present to us.

 

Dang it I’m prob gonna get everyone of these. Smokescreen is the most disappointing though cause, and this is a rlly minor nitpick, the shoulder canons are blue instead of cartoon accurate white. I wonder if the shoulder cannons on my siege smokescreen will work on Earthrise smokescreen. We shall see. Might also replace the head with the siege one if it’ll fit.

I’m definitely annoyed with the Allicons as well, it’s not like Prime where we’ll likely get another one in the near future... The closest we can likely hope for is an upgraded retool of him in Studio Series for the ‘86 Movie.

I know a lot of the Transformers are made in Vietnam now, but I distinctly remember Brian Goldner the Hasbro CEO saying last year that Hasbro would have to make compromises as a result of the tariffs on the US-China trade war, this would be about how long the knock-on effects would have taken to trickle down too.

It’s annoying, as on the whole I feel the toys themselves have never been better, but we’re seeing little niggling cuts/compromises come in, that remind me of the ‘Thrilling 30’ line & all the last minute cuts that were made there.

 

Yea I think Hasbro blew the budget on SIEGE and with the cost cutting announced before Earthrise, they’re playing it safe with Earthrise and chilling out by comparison. You’ve got what looks to be clear winners with Scorponok, sir Sky Lynx and Doubledealer. Meanwhile all returning characters from SIEGE to me seem shortchanged in some way.

Earthrise overall is the worst generations toyline since... ...Universe 1.0?
I have no idea of what happened with their deluxes. And I understand that they are still transitioning towards the new $80 Leader class (soon to be ex-commander class), but the Leader class should be really cut while it's still half decent.
We would be fine with
$10 legends
$25 deluxes (worth of this name)
$45 voyager (current leader class)
$80 leader (current commander class)
$170 titan

The demographic is what it is, I'd rather pay a bit more than going through Earthrise again.

I disagree. The absolute lowest point for Generations to me was in 2012. Earthrise is decent, I wish the designs were made prior to 2012 since the plastic quality before then was better. I prefer Earthrise over most of 2012/T30/CW/POTP.
