If UT had announced to release this right one, folk would never waver to consider TW's not-yet-released Prime. Please UT! Make Prime great again!

I got impatient so I started what could easily be a process that I will regret: chroming-out my Challenger. I initially only did some of the truck details in the front, but then the different silvers were driving me crazy. I had chrome, bright silver, dark silver, and the die-cast pieces they use which were a weird browned chrome. Only thing is I had forgotten just how much chrome there is on the truck mode! I'm definitely gonna finish the stacks but now I'm not sure if I should do the entire headache rack area and gas tanks. I'm using molotow liquid chrome markers, will they chip and get messed up over time??

Absolutely they will if not sealed or if the finish doesn't cure before handling. Definitely recommend you look at the link in my sig.

Good luck sir! For the large areas like fuel tanks and headache rack it might be better to open the pen and apply with a paint brush or even airbrush if you have it. They're refillable so they're designed to open up. The chrome finish is apparently quite delicate and the vast majority of lacquers and sealants seem to ruin the chrome finish. I've been reading this thread and it seems Alclad ALC310 Clear Kote is the only sealant that won't tarnish the chrome:

The thread is definitely worth a read and has some excellent research by @artimus prime and others.

*edit* he beat me to it :p

Oh lord I wish I had known.... I didn't expect to put that much work into this, and have to buy another thing, but that klear kote looks like something that might be useful to have in general.

But really good job on the molotow thread! Very comprehensive and useful. Thanks for reminding me about it. I don't know if I'll be able to keep my hands off Challenger for a whole week or more...

Thanks. Yeah, the downside of using the markers is that they take forever to cure. If you have an airbrush, the curing time shrinks dramatically.

Airbrush systems are so expensive though. If I ever have the space to use them in too then I'll probably get a setup. Here's the result of my chroming the stacks (this was right after I did it so it looks wavy still. Hopefully it smooths out more). It's really hard not to touch areas I've already done since there are so many areas on the truck that need it. For bot mode I opened him up and I'm only doing the small areas of the chest boobs that show in truck mode. I've had to redo some areas like 3 times cause I kept touching them by accident!

I know. I've been putting off getting a compressor for a long time. That's why I made the thread focus on using the markers without an airbrush. You'll know instantly if you rush handling your Prime. I'm curious if the chrome tape you have would work. Is it vinyl? If so, a hairdryer should allow you to bend it to the contours of the alt mode.

I only got a small sample square of the tape since it was only like $1.80 for a bunch of colors, which was much more than I needed for the front bumper. It's a bit thick to bend around anything that's not somewhat flat unfortunately. I'll consider it for the tanks if I have enough though, good suggestion! Once I started chroming bits of my challenger I just couldn't stop haha!

    I love this truck!

So since last I posted, I painted over the metallic red around the doors because having three different reds in one area was making me crazy. I also painted blue around the red on the hinge in the middle of the sleeper cab to continue the flames (not gonna attempt the pinstriping yet since it still blends in well right now), I finished the chrome accents and the stacks (including the lower area), and added some extra black to make some parts stand out.

Looking good! Have you put anything on the chrome to protect it or just going to accept it'll be handled so will get some wear? I did the smokestacks on mine and have banished him to a drawer until I can get some alclad to protect it from my grubby mitts

Thank you! Yeah the grey hinges never really bothered me until some people started mentioning them, and it was more a case of "these don't bug me but it'd be an easy fix" so I tried to make them blend in more.
Thanks! Nothing to protect the chrome yet. I'm still debating if it's worth it or not. I feel like this figure is going to get wear and tear no matter what seeing as it's one of my favorite figures ever, so I might just accept it as "battle damage".

Actually there are a couple originals but quite pricier than repaints.
