I've seen displays like that and I think they look good, but then I'd have some lonely MPs.

I am about to redo all my legends displays. They are currently on shelves meant for MPs. And I'll need taller shelves to accomadate the combiners.

Got my Iron Sky in from Toy Dojo today. This is my first MFT figure (in truth, my first non-IF/NA Legend) and it does not disappoint. I was surprised to see that the red accents on his waist are metallic; this had never come across in any of the photos I’d seen and it’s very nicely done. Transformation is pretty easy and intuitive, I used the instructions but could probably have done without. It was a little inconvenient that the instructions were printed on two separate sheets but no biggie.

All modes look good, or about as good as a G1 Astrotrain can. Vehicle modes suffer from some unsightly gaps in a few places: train mainly where the arms connect and shuttle between the wings and the body. Shuttle also has some ugly exposed joints and sockets on the sides. None of this is major, it’s just not uber clean looking.

Robot mode looks great and he has plenty of articulation, including the knees if you don’t mind gaps at the extreme end of his range. No stiffness, he moves very fluidly. I’m not crazy about the type of plastic used, it feels a bit cheap on the fingers, but seems sturdy enough for practical purposes.

He’s considerably larger than my IF figures. He is taller than their Megs and Blitzwing by a good margin. He’s about the same size as IF Jetfire, which is I think fine but definitely not in line with the Holy Scale Chart. I don’t mind Astrotrain being larger, though of course aesthetically he doesn’t blend in all that well with IF stuff. Astro is a favorite character of mine so I’m just happy to have such a good version.

He’s great, no regrets at all and has got me very interested in their Octane. I still prefer Iron Factory and New Age overall but this is a figure well worth owning if you like the character or just want a fun, small scale triple changer to mess with. He is very “swooshable.” Am planning on picking up the toy deco when that becomes available.

im glad you got the bot so fast.

now back to the plastic i think it is awesome and a great step forward for MFT. this bot blends well with MS and other lines and it is worlds better than their previous attempts to copy that look. *cough cough* lambros

@lilcarus I’m not knocking the plastic that hard, and I don’t have any other MFT or MS stuff to compare it to. I’ve felt similar plastic in some 3P MP stuff. It feels kind of soft and slightly greasy yet dry at the same time. I just think the plastic Iron Factory uses feels better. But theres nothing wrong with the MFT materials, just feels off to me.

I think Iron Sky definitely will fit in well with a lot of the other 3P toon Legends very well. I don’t feel the need to redo my MP collection at Legends scale so I’ve mainly focused on IF, since it’s doing a different thing, and am just dipping into other lines for particular favorite characters or ones who don’t have or are unlikely to receive an IF treatment. After this purchase I’ll definitely be favorably disposed to picking up some more MFT stuff. He’s exactly what I wanted in terms of having an Astrtrain I can pick up and mess with; I just KNOW I’m not going to ever want to transform FT Thomas when that comes along.

NA Megatron and MFT Grimlock scale decently accurate to one of the most 'pivotal' scenes in G1. :lol

Nah, I didn't just do that. It was years ago.

I don't do as many pics and mod guides as I used to, but a running joke was that I put my watermark on everything. So when I made a reaction gif of Grimlock humping Megatron, I gave him a trampstamp. :lol

As for scale accuracy, there's the scale chart of course and there's the animation. We all know the animators didn't give a crap sometimes, but it seems like the Dinobots were particularly all over the place. I like the MFT Dinbots because I like them being big (and I'd actually like them bigger in dino mode), but if you really need justification you can find episodes where MFT fits with NA\MST in bot mode.

Funny. A moment ago I just posted this old pic in the reenactment thread. They were enormous in bot mode in Season 1. These are MFTs

Dinobots were consistently huge in season 1 e 2 (but in the end, only a head taller than in the scale chart... nothing too jarring).
They shrinked in season 3. But season 3 was even more all over the place than the previous one LOL.

Astrotrain should be more or less seeker height, with more bulk. But as long as he and Blitwing don't tower over Meg, I'm fine. It's like Motormaster or Silverbot: everybody envisioned them bigger than they are supposed to be... and common perception is as valid as an old cartoon

Interestingly, Fanstoys decided to to have their Astrotrain seeker height but their Motormaster taller

ShowZ apparently has the toy version of MFT Astrotrain (MS-18) in stock, so I ordered it. Now hopefully it arrives within 2 months.

I was going to get the Takara colored one too, but I'd rather it be a recolor of MS-18 than MS-20, since that's a toy deco. So for that one I'll probably wait to see if they recolor MS-18 later on.

FINALLY got this guy in! I would've had this guy weeks ago if only I had waited a day and checked Toy Dojo, instead of ordering off ebay! Like I normally shop the US retailers first, but since its normally up in the air when they get MFT stuff in (usually 1-2 weeks after listings show off on ebay), I was like, whatever, it'll come the same time either way. Needless to say I was totally shocked that TD had it in stock only a couple of days after.

Anyways, I've said before on here, it still blows my mind that this guy is the same size as the Astrotrain of my youth. But yeah, even though he's technically Legends+, I think he fits in just fine, he's supposed to be a transport, he should be bigger than the rest of the crew. That being said, he prolly scales slightly better with MS than NA:
    mfta mscone.jpg
    mfta naseek.jpg
I think he fits fine either way.

I don't know what happened in this picture:
    mfta mssw nameg.jpg
perspective is making him look not as tall as he actually is compared to NA Megatron. But again, him being taller than Megatron and Soundwave is fine in my book. But I also don't ascribe to the "official" scale charts.

I think NewAge Megatron looks great without the add-on kit! Fair enough, if someone doesn't like the back (it doesn't bother me, but I can understand why someone might dislike it) then the display poses you can do with him are going to be more limited, but I feel like you could still get like 85% of the poses you might want to do with him.
