Messing with this great figure as I’m working from home...it’s a distraction haha.

I was thinking of buying MP-36 off eBay, but the descriptions often don't say if the toy has an orange cap, so I don't know if owning it is legal. Is it?

From what I understand, owning it is legal in the U.S. if it has the orange plug. Technically, I believe you’re not supposed to remove the orange plug (Although, I did. Mine’s never going out of the house, so I’m not too worried about it).
I don’t completely understand the legalities around it, but from what I’ve read online, people who have bought MP-36 from online places that imported it, like Big Bad Toy Store, had their’s arrive with the orange plug. People who ordered it directly from Amazon.com Japan, had their’s arrive without the orange plug. I’m not sure if that was an oversite or a legal loophole or what, because I’m pretty certain that toy guns sold over here are supposed to be required to have it.

Interesting. Yeah, I didn’t realize that Australia reversed their policy on the orange barrel plug. That’s a little bit surprising.

Regarding the adhesive that’s used to secure the plug in the barrel, it was my experience, after buying one from BBTS, that even with the adhesive in place, the orange plug was pretty easily removed. They appeared to have used a type of rubber cement. If you use vice grips and are careful to put them over the orange plug only and not Megatron’s barrel, the plug comes out with a few good twists. There are YouTube video tutorials that walk you through it.

It turns out the MP-36s I can find are either more expensive than $120 (my limit for toys) or they're from China (meaning they'll take an excruciatingly long time to arrive). Sorry for wasting your time and effort.

Would there be any way that you can find out where it was origionally purchased from? Location and time of release could tell you if it was bought before the KO hit the market.

I don’t think there is any way that they would remember, at this point. It was purchased from a vendor in China. They have purchased a number of Takara Encore G1 reissues for me, over the years, that I have no doubt are real, but I’m also not sure if they bought from the same seller, every time.

20200630_201521.jpg I love this figure but the paint is horrible. I've found chipping on the yellow and white of the pelvis and the grey on his chest. He's only been transformed once.
Does anybody know what types of paint to use to touch this thing up?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the Evangelion MP-10 was ever straight KOd like that. The holographic sticker is a good indicator as well, as those are usually not something worth duplicating for the KO companies. That and the way the number is stamped into the bottom of the box appears to be legit. The KOs have the numbers applied differently.

Thank you for the feedback. I also posted some pics on one of the Transformers Facebook groups, asking them for help, and the consensus there also seemed to be that, judging by the box appearance and date stamp, that it was an original Takara.

Not sure if best thread but could use some help. My son just got MP28 Hot Rod and my 2yr old son happened to grab it and threw it so now his tail fin popped off. It kind of screws/pushes back in but not tightly and can pull off again fairly easy. It doesn’t appear to be “broken” but not sure how to get it to fit better and retain motion.

It looks like it was glued on via the small paint blemishes on each part...

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the original release and the reissue release on MP-09 Rodimus Prime?

Well, it spins around as part of the transformation, so I don’t know.

That’s attached by a rivet and would need to be punched in. That is if the plastic hasn’t been damaged in any way.
