My favorite 3rd Party combiner, but not a fan of chrome.

My Transmetals are just a reminder how much I hate chrome.....

Thanks for the comprehensive and informative post. I’ll have to keep an eye open for these guys now. I didn’t keep up with the thread after my initial disappointment of the combined mode. Fans make incredible things happen nowadays.

Joking aside, just not my thing. Passed on the original for my own reasons, so no intent on getting this one. Does look neat though, and I hope those who get it enjoy it! Also, fingers crossed that the chrome isn't prone to chipping.

That’s not a personal preference, that factually is the new standard for combiner size. That’s the scale chosen by the majority of companies making MP figures, making it a new standard.

While I do agree that this is the direction that MP scale is going with now (Toyworld, Zeta, DX9, XTB, FansToys), it should also be noted that this can only be achieved via major parts-forming. I actually don't mind some parts-forming for combiners (particularly hands and feet) but the pants of Constructor somewhat bothered me. The torso parts of later combiners REALLY bug me since the combiner team leader basically just turns into a cube. But I don't think anyone can argue that this ISN'T the direction that most MP collectors are going now.

Personally, I prefer the engineering of combiners with fewer wasted pieces, which is why I'm sticking with MMC's Bruticus scale. I'm probably in the minority, but I prefer that, even though it's smaller and admittedly some sacrifices are made to the individual bots, but the engineering just amazes me. I think the 15" (TFC, GT/TFM/Warbotron) and 18" (MMC, Jinbao OS) scale are still valid but probably not what the majority of collectors are looking for. And that's fine, options are always good, and I'm glad that I can look for combiners that I like while others get what they like too :)

I agree that mass-shifting pants-formers have become more common, or more popular for some companies and some collectors recently. And I'm very happy for you that so many companies are making the toys you prefer.

But your statement was not about commonality or popularity. It was about how your preference is "right," and how "wrong" others are (emphasis added):
I mean, unless you look at the toys. After all, in G1, Metroplex was, like, only three-quarters-of-a-head taller than Superion :lol

Thats certainly one way to spin my words. As I've repeatedly said, that's the standard for MP scale combiners, and that's a fact, deal with it. And yes, combiners aren't meant to be city bots, because they never were meant to be, no matter what the scale ignoring toys from 35+ years ago say. No where do I say I'm right or that this is the right scale. I simply point out the obvious in the fact that they themselves aren't city bots, and that the new set standard by companies is the 20+ inch combiner. The only person here I'll consider in the wrong is you and your contorted view of my words.

I love, love, love this set but will admit personally I'm not a fan of the chrome. I do hope it opens the proverbial gull-wing doors for future sets, such as box set of the OG deco or even that cool 'matte paint' that is much more fashionable with automobiles these days.

Thanks also for the shout out on the upgrades, guys!

"My opinions are facts. And if I add a stinger to the end of my sentence, that makes my opinions even more factual"

Good thing nobody here ever claimed that. :D

I mean, you said, "Combiners aren't city bot sized, never have been." So, I'm not sure what to make of that.

When you claim a scale is "the standard," you are implicitly claiming that nothing else can be right.
Unless --- is that not what you mean? Can something be acceptable in your eyes, even if it doesn't match "the standard?"

No, you said they "never have been" "city bot sized". Feel free to scroll up.

So, if a combiner isn't 20-inches, is it not MP-scaled by definition? After all, you've declared what "the standard" is.

Clearly you feel that you've been contorted. If you meant something else, feel free to clarify. I'm just going by what you wrote. No one knows what you mean if it doesn't match. o_O

Standard has been set by the companies making MP bots. Dx9, Fanstoys, Xtransbots, Cang Toys, Zeta, TW. That is the standard because the majority of MP focused companies set it at that size. It's not what is considered right, it's simply the standard. You can freely consider a different size correct because opinions are a thing, but that doesn't mean its the standard. Simply pointing out the standard isn't the same as somehow claiming "my opinion is right".

I remain correct on my statement because they aren't city bots. As I was pointing out to the user I responded to, combiners are much easier to scale accurately because they aren't as large as the city bots or unicron as they mentioned.

If you don't want to present your preferences as the "right" ones, another term might be less confident in its own authority.
Maybe "common" or "popular" might come across as less judgmental.

I didn't catch your addition until now. Addressing your second point:

I mean, if that's what you meant, then yes, that is correct. Combiners are not City Bots. So you weren't saying they "never" were the same size?

Wait, you are saying they were never the same size?

So, when you said, "Combiners aren't city bot sized, never have been...", what you meant was "...in the areas I care about"? That's cool. I'm glad you have a style you prefer. So, for you, toys from 35 years ago don't matter, but inconsistent cartoons from 35 years ago do matter. That's a popular preference. I commonly have that preference, too. :)

Another excellent example of folks mixing up their personal opinions as "the standard."

(Also, I was wondering when the fan-made size chart would appear. ;)  It's like the center square in TFW Bingo.)

No matter how much you fellows argue and try to prove who's right and who's wrong, you do realize that you are arguing over toys.

Trying to get back on track, Havoc is an awesome bot, I got lucky finding all the bots for him when I first got into collecting last year. Echotransformers parts do a really great job in beefing him up. I think the new colors look really cool, but it's an easy pass for me.

    Okay, let the bickering continue.

The problem with using logic to standardize the scale is that we all experienced it differently as children. There are fans who refuse to accept mass-shifting because it is against the laws of physics. Ok but sentient transforming robots are real? It always cracks me up when Star Wars and Star Trek fans (I’m a heathen who likes both) try to explain every little mistake or crappy prop with twisted reasoning to make it legit “in continuity”.

I’ll be damned if someone’s going to tell me that Bruticus is larger than Metroplex’s right gonad or if Ultra Magnus can’t manhandle the Construticons. I saw it onscreen. Arguments about what is Masterpiece and what isn’t are ultimately useless. Even Takara doesn’t know what Masterpiece is anymore.

You’re not wrong because it is your perception but neither are toy fans who didn’t read the comics nor the comic fans who loathe the cartoons. Many collections are reflections of what people perceived as kids based on a hastily slapped together toy commercial. Plus as you can see, the TFM Havoc is scaled correctly to an IDW Masterpiece-sized Optimus Prime...

The only thing that is consistent is that IDW Menasor > G1 Menasor :p
