That looks more like they just stole a bunch of Twisted Metal cutscenes and synched it up to a Marilyn Manson song than anything else.

 

Hmm, hope that first cover doesn't indicate Snyder will try to ship Wonder Woman with Batman.

 

Well, kudos to them. They had a vision of something they clearly wanted to do and they did it.

But it is so many millions of miles away from anything I ever want to read involving DC characters that I just can't be a part of it. I read about 2/3 of issue one and that's a wrap. Already deleted it from my tablet, won't be buying issue #2. I feel like I already read it anyway in the tonally identical Batman Last Knight on Earth. Which I did read to the end for some reason.

 

Yeah, I don't understand why DC seems to think grim dark is the way to go with their super heroes. I really don't. Do they think making everyone be like Batman is going to make everyone a success like Batman? What is their end goal here?

And how did DC seem to get worse now that Didiot is gone?

 

The Green Lantern 80th Anniversary issue was very nice, far better than the similar Flash issue that we got not too long ago. The one drawback is that the stories are fairly short, probably to cram more into the book, and while that's a good thing, many of these writers seem to have a hard time telling a story in 8 pages. Still, this book revisits a number of past eras, often bringing old creative teams back. Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis tell a Hal Jordan story. Denny O'Neil and Mike Grell tell a GL/GA team up story. Ron Marz and Darryl Banks get to revisit Kyle Rayner and Warrior's Bar. Gary Frank draws Alan Scott's GL story, which looks outstanding. Robert Venditti and Rafael Sandoval handle a "four corpsmen" story with Hal, Guy, John and Kyle, drawing on the recent Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps series. There are other stories and other creative teams, and overall I'd say this is a very strong anniversary issue and it's nice to see some of these guys going back to their version of the characters and getting another shot at them.

 

Oh shoot, that came out already? I've been preoccupied with stuff.

 

I wish the GL special had allowed room for Alan Scott's daughter Jade, who counts as a Lantern and legacy hero and shouldn't have been written out. But otherwise it was a good read and a great tribute.

 

I think I enjoyed the O'Neil GL/GA story over the Johns Hal one, which I was a bit surprised by as I wasn't that big one the original GL/GA series.

Harley Quinn Gets Her Own Batman: White Knight Series in October

As you can see at this link, a remnant of DC Comics' listings with Diamond Comics Previewsworld promised a new Batman: White Knight series launching in September. The details have been withdrawn, it's now been rescheduled for October and not in DC's listings for UCS or Lunar. Batman: White Knight: Harley Quinn is a new 8-issue mini-series at $5.99 an issue in the Murphyverse of DC Comics under the Black label imprint. Starring Harley Quinn, written by Sean Murphy, his wife Katana Collins, artist Matteo Scalera and colourist Dave Stewart, DC Comics told retailers "Batman: White Knight Presents Harley Quinn #1 incorrectly appeared in the July Diamond Previews. It will be solicited in August's DC Connect #3 for October on sale."

 

The lengths DC will go to have only Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn Black Label content is downright comical at this point.

 

DC Launches Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red Digital-First Series

DC announced it is launching a new Digital First comic starring Harley Quinn. Titled Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red, the digital comic will publish each Friday and run for 14 chapters. Inspired by Batman: Black & White, this new Harley Quinn title is an anthology of standalone stories by a rotating team of all-star creators.

Instead of being presented in the traditional black and white format, Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red will also add the color red in unique ways throughout each story. Talent contributing to the comic include Harley Quinn co-creator Paul Dini; the team of Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Chad Hardin; Saladin Ahmed and Javier Rodriguez; Tim Seeley and Juan Ferreyra; Erica Henderson, Daniel Kibblesmith and more. The series will also mark the DC writing debuts of Mirka Andolfo (DC Comics: Bombshells), Dani (The Low, Low Woods), Joe Quinones (Dial H for Hero), and Riley Rossmo (Martian Manhunter).

"Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red is a great addition to our Digital First lineup," said Hank Kanalz, SVP of Publishing Strategy & Support Services. "Each story stands on its own, and this series gives our talent teams the freedom and flexibility to tell innovative stories that could be part of or separate from regular continuity. Everyone has a unique vision for Ms. Quinn -- it'll be fun to see what their creativity delivers."

Subsequent digital chapters of Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red will publish weekly on Fridays through its 14-chapter run. Yes, very much so.

 

Since Injustice for both her and her boyfriend.

 

Holy shit, yes. She's the new Deadpool and why they gave her the headlining role in a comic that had barely anything to do with her is beyond me (Birds of Prey). Turning her into an anti-hero and splitting her off from the Joker breathed new life into her, yeah, but there's just such a glut. I like the animated series but part of me wouldn't be sad if they basically wrote her character out and Ivy, Kiteman, Shark, Clayface, Psycho etc just had wacky adventures without her.

 

Harley works in a universe where the Joker is as he was in the Timm animated series.

But in any universe or continuity where they've pushed Joker into completely ridiculous, genocidal levels of sadistic torture and mass murder, she becomes a problematic character. Especially if you later want to try to redeem her and use her as an anti-hero. I mean, DC couldn't do an anti-hero book starring one of the Manson Family girls who stabbed a pregnant woman 67 times in the stomach until she died in agony, and then later turn her into a lovable scamp who tries to be good. And that's what any Harley would inevitably be in a world with a Joker the way DC has been portraying him in comics the past few decades.

And when all of the above exists, I find it extremely problematic when they simultaneously try to market a lovably kooky version to little kids as a girl empowerment character.

 

I'm tired of how she mostly been writing, but she sells and that's keeping the spotlight on her.

Actually DC did just that when her Forever Evil one-shot had her committing mass murder of children just to get the Joker attention, but that has been forgotten by writers and fans.

 

I'll be fully honest, Ditigtal coloring of old books is a sin. God knows how many Kirby books get ruined by this...
