The same people who buy Superman toys that don't fly. Hulk toys that don't turn into puny Banner. Spider-Man toys that don't avoid damage. Basically collectors of any toys of characters with a gimmick that isn't implemented in the particular toy.

Really? I've seen the 6" Joes. Other than Roadblock's railgun, they all do a pretty stellar job of invoking the 1980's characters. Everyone I know that collects them are THRILLED that Hasbro kept them old school and not revamped like the Valor series. Oh well. Hasbro can't win over everyone. I won't even comment on the Hot toys beyond

Will see when in hand but at first glance; cheap, clean looking figures without silly backpacks or missing holes? ...very nice option to have.

Would love a full roster, but doubt it\'s going to happen. Probably more of a siege/earthrise rant, but Kup needs a new figure...

Genuinely surprised at how many people prefer non-transforming Transformers over normal ones.

I'll take a transforming toy over what looks like the basic SW black series figure with stiff joints that are prone to breaking and poor paint apps any day of the week, not to mention they are Wal-Mart exclusives so again HARD PASS. You want to impress me, bring it up to Figuarts level, otherwise what's the point.

There are the Amazing Yamaguchi Revoltechs, which are quite a bit newer, those were the ones I was referring to. The fact that they made new one speaks to the relevance of the concept.

because SHF also suffering same thing as high caliber line MP lately. Shit QC. Questionable material. Bandai also moved partial of their factory to Vietnam too. Figure.
I moved from SHF to cheaper line like Black series , ML , mcfarlane , neca , it's still lottery but when i manage to acquired overall good copy , it's still mile cheaper than SHF or mafex is. In case there is a very good one , i will get the best and premium version.

I'd prefer Super Robot Chogokin level, personally, with touches of die-cast metal parts. I'd even be willing to pay upwards $30-$40 per figure for that. I know Hasbro did some metal SW Black Label figures as a Disney Store exclusive, so it's not out of bounds.

Yeah, I was hopeful the EX-Gokin line would take off but it fizzled out. Prime was okay but Grimlock was really awesome.

I think that's a disingenuous response. If people could buy affordable, functional Superman toys that fly, Hulk toys that transform credibly, and Cyclops figures that fire force beams from their eyes... then they would.

However, Transformers debuted as a toyline with a transformation gimmick. It is fundamental to the play-patterns and the whole series as material objects. We have highly-faithful, articulated, transforming versions of classic Transformer characters, and have for quite some time now. So unlike a Deadpool figure that realistically heals all damage, a non-transforming Transormer is an unequivocal evolutionary step backwards.

I don't know what the appeal of these things is. They leave me utterly, utterly cold. But hey, if some people like them for some reason, good for them. I guess we'll see how the line performs, and we'll know then whether this was a good idea or a stupid one.

As an oldschool Joe fan, I don't like the new 6" figures specifically because of the stylization. I like that they're doing classic characters, but they've lost (or deliberately downplayed) the military aesthetics that anchor GIJOE for me.

But then, I was a file-cards/comics Joe fan, not a Toon Joe fan, so that's probably also part of it. The Larry Hama content and the slightly sardonic pulp-authentic flavour was just so much better than the TV versions, and allows me to still enjoy that stuff today.

(much as the care and attention to detail in the Budiansky TF profiles still appeals to my adult self).

Anyway, hard pass on these for me.

Y'all are complaining about these not Transforming, as if we haven't gotten stuff like this. we got Robot Replicas for Bayformers 1 & 2, and we got kiddy toys with next to 0 articulation from Walmart before. Stop complaining, this isn't anything new.

Was. It debuted with the gimmick. Transformers has evolved from a cheesy toy brand to Super Hero brand status. They are now household names with Avengers. There are many different types of collectors. Some people want to keep everything to a certain size. These match the size of marvel legends, SW Black, Neca TMNT, etc so a fan who doesn’t want to buy MP44 can get their favorite figures in a cartoon accurate look. Earthrise doesn’t offer that. They are covered with extra detail that I’ve heard from many people that they find it ugly. This is an option. For me, I ALWAYS prefer more choices rather than less. I’m thrilled it has Prime and BW figures too for fans of those series, even though to me, those are “wasted spots”. It’s all good. I wish Hasbro best of luck with this line regardless of whether I ultimately decide to collect these or not.

If Hasbro came out with those figures a year ago, I wouldn`t have bought the WfC ones. I don`t care about the transformation, just the bot modes with great headsculpts, good proportions and the right scale.

that's a really good point. I think Snake Eyes and Destro look pretty great, but the rest of the range has been between "meh" and really dissapointing to me. And the weapons are terrible.
heck yes. The first few years of the OG comic still holds up really well aside form some dated references (from around #11- the big Cobra Island story)

I still find some of these points to be a bit of a stretch. Size?

I mean... okay. I'm not quite sure what the appeal of a 6" Optimus standing on the shelf next to a 6" Luke Skywalker is. Wouldn't that be like having Luke and Chewie the same size? Generally it's appreciated in 6" lines when big characters are bigger and small characters are smaller.

Admittedly, what I liked about the original GOBOTS line was the standardized pocket-size used for most of the figures. That, and the transforming. :lol

As popular as the characters are, the TF line would never have been successful without being anchored to the toys and their "cheesy" gimmick (in fact, not cheesy... rather ingenious and incredibly profitable)... and I think that will continue forward. Non-transforming Transformers are just not conceptually strong enough to carry the franchise. They're destined only to be a misguided novelty, appreciated by relatively few. There's a reason why they try something like this every few years, but it never seems to stick. I doubt it'll go anywhere.

That said, as you point out, more choice is better than less. For anyone who wants these, lucky day. Enjoy the maybe 12 mismatched characters that end up released while it lasts. :)

As always, I'll stick with Transformers that actually transform. :thumb
