TWISTER Reboot In The Works From TOP GUN: MAVERICK Director Joseph Kosinski Universal Pictures is looking to reboot Twister, with Top Gun: Maverick director John Kosinski in talks to helm the disaster flick. Veteran producer Frank Marshall is attached to producer, and the studio is reportedly starting to meet with writers to pen the screenplay. Return of the flying cows!
Is anyone really going to give a shit about flying cows now that we've been living in a world of flying sharks for several years? I don't even know if "reboot" is the right word for this anyway. It's not like Twister was a franchise. It was one movie and a party game. So "remake" is probably the correct term.
Twister isn’t iconic or beloved enough that you can’t remake it like Back to the Future or something. But that’s the thing. It’s not iconic or beloved enough to warrant a remake. Nowhere do you see fanboys who would cheer in a re-release the moment Bill Paxton appears on screen like how people cheer when the T. Rex does in a rerelease of Jurassic Park. Well, I’m sure they exist, but still. It’s not like there’s a major devoted fan base that you’re trying to “pay homage to the legacy of” like you hear with other franchise reboots. You don’t see TwisterCon with exclusive transforming Dorothy or something. The original film despite dealing with epic forces of nature is a pretty mundane movie. There’s no end of the world, no iconic villain, it’s just about storm chasers and some melodrama along the way. There is no need to remake such a mundane movie that you can comfortably put on as background noise or even just tune in when there’s nothing else on TV. Nobody does disaster movies like they did in the 90’s anymore anyway.
I like the original because of Bill Paxton, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and all the nice trucks in the movie. Two out of those three reasons aren’t going to be involved with the remake for obvious reasons unfortunately.
Will the phrase The Suck Zone make it in? How about if they do the drive-in scene again, have the 1st Twister be playing on the screen.
I mean does this really need to be remade? Was it really that good, because it definitely isn't iconic. Helen Hunt was incredibly dry throughout which made Paxton go over the top in some scenes to compensate.
They sort of already remade it with INTO THE STORM. That one had a fire tornado!! They should do a little Sharknado joke. If they do the flying cow again. Have someone say "It is sucking up animals" Another person goes "Snarknado???" First person points to the cow and goes "Cownado" Either way, I do love a good disaster film so they'll get my $$$. Assuming we are all going back to theaters by then.
I enjoy Twister. But I’ve also watched it a total of like 5 times in my life. Don’t think it really needs a remake.
It's a weather movie that can be set anywhere with any character, does it have to be a "remake"? So dumb.
Well yeah, that's kinda the whole point of disaster flicks. They're not supposed to have iconic villains and cons. They're about forces of nature. @sifu74 I agree, they could make any movie about a tornado. Doesn't hafta be Twister and given that there had been several truly devastating and monstrous tornados in the past decade and more info on them, a new one would do better.
Twister is what got me fascinated with weather. Especially since I grew up and still live in pretty much the middle of Tornado Alley.
I'd think then want to ride on the fame of the name 'Twister'. Twister is easily the most famous name of a tornado film (well maybe Sharknado).
Yes? That’s the point I was making. Disaster movies are dumb fun and this movie was no different, and it’s so mundane and lowkey that nothing about it warrants a remake. There’s no legacy to ostensibly honor, there’s no “oh I wanna see how they do that scene”. There’s no point whatsoever to remake this movie.
Then why did you even bring up villains and conventions as if those things alone are worthy of remakes or of being iconic?
