I've wanted a Deaths head in my collection for some time now, the original toy was too small for what I wanted and i came across a suitable candidate never too keen on these star wars crossovers his face is halfway there already so this evening I sketched out a plan of action and had a look over the figure to see how I can make it work. Hopefully be able to knock up some interchangeable weapons for him as well (always loved his kickass blaster rifle). Definitely looking to add some more articulation as well.
Did some hacksawing last night took the wrist blasters off, shoulders and waist in half to add rotation. Looking into ankle tilt.
Using the wielding iron I melted down the under shape last night then started some of the sculpt work
Had a little spare putty left from Cliffjumpers head, not enough for his shoulders so had a crack at his face unfortunately the putty was starting to set so this is the best I could do in its fast firming up state. The sockets for the ball joints in his feet are not really working out though even with lots of clear nail varnish and paint too loose so may need to try something else stonger down there as the top gets more heavy from sculpt work.
I fixed the floppy feet issue with a little help from my friend Lego and now hes a lot more sturdier. For the interchangeable weapons I kept the sliding in fist option and drilled a small hole on just the right hand side, the shield was an old broken Lego space radar dish attached with hot glue and while the glue was still warm I pushed in the weapon stumps take a slot for them to be kept when not in use. Will sculpt the weapon heads later.
Next bits were the lower legs cutting the shapes of plastic to extend down with the new ankle tilt feet, secured and filled with hot glue, small wrist holes now covered, the funny horn shaped bits coming off his knees, enlarged the axe and filled inside with more hot glue then went around trimming any dryed glue that had splurged out of the cracks. Bit more putty work to do next and determined to make his cool Blaster rifle.
Took me an evening but managed to scratch build his Blaster rifle just a few little bits left now before painting can commence
Thata the last few bits sculpted, it's been a long project but quite a fun little project too. Can you guess the transformers episode playing in the background tonight?
Looking better with the 1st coat of paint still needs another coat and details added. Overall I'm really happy with how hes turned out. Looking forward to getting him alongside some masterpiece figures. Legacy of Unicron was one of my favourite comic story growing up and he was a very memorable character so definitely deserved the attention. Thanks for all the support everyone glad you like him.
Just gave him a 2nd coat and his Blaster a different shade of green, just some details and tidying up to do now
Im at a pont where I don't how much further I should go with the painting. I'm going to tidy his gun barrels and give the Blaster another coat of green, I was going to add some highlights to his Cape and lower crotch cloth (which for some reason the paint has remained sticky as it was made from a rubber material form DOTM Megatron) and maybe some highlights on his brown areas ? What do you all think? When hes fully done I'll post some pictures with whom accompanied him in his marvel transformer comic adventures as that's where I feel hes the most memorable.
Thank you so much, he was challenging throughout but also a fun project. This was also what I was trying to mimic from his classic battle to the death with Shockwave. The next custom project I'm looking at doing I'm thinking about sketching a comic story to accompany him and posting it as well but not sure if that should be placed in the fan fiction as it's a story or fan art due to the artwork?
