Current 3rd party combines are usually 18-24 inches tall. Menasor's limbs are mostly unaltered cars. The size of Menasor's robot mode is directly linked to the sized of the Stunticons as cars. Even in the G1 toy.

Why is everyone talking about menasor in an astrotrain thread?

If this were upscaled to the size of an MP Seeker, maybe with some better hardware in the joints, then I wouldn't be spending $220 on Thomas.

Hell, if someone just redid the Captain so he's a bit bigger with better materials I wouldn't be spending $220 on Thomas. It's a safe bet that Thomas will have a ton of paint, a ton of diecast, but he'll be a pain in the ass to transform and/or have limited articulation in spots, and I really won't like him. But, as with Cyclonus and the Aerialbots there won't really be a better alternative.

It started as "companies focusing on different parts of the fanbase/market, mainly toon vs toy aesthetic" and quickly spiraled from there... (Astrotrain is so dang toy-accurate in the show, asides from coloring, he doesn't really have that issue...)

There really are so many good legends options now. It's far too late for me to abandon the MP ship and jump on the legends train. I really do want that Astrotrain though. I'll just have to wait for Thomas instead.

Just arrange your shelf so it looks like the legends Astrotrain is small because he's far in the distance. Boom, done, problem solved.

It also has to be big enough to hold a full sized Devastator

    Haha yeah

that when things get a bit sketchy! I mean was Astrotrain not a human scaled shuttle? How could Devastator possibly fit inside even if ‘train was Transformer scaled? Titan size!!

There was no titan size back then. Btw I still can't keep all these modern classes apart. In the good ol' days we just had Transformers, and they differed in size.

I couldn't like this comment more than once unfortunately!

I'm fine with Legends vs MP, for example, because they are big versions and little versions of the whole thing.

All this Deluxe 'X' and Leader 'X' and Commander 'X' guff is just daft to me. Figure 'X' is a certain size in the mainline scale. End of!

I'm not sure, but thinking about it, Astrotrain and Unicron may have been the 2 transformers with the greatest range of size discrepencies from all of the original movie/series. I know the city bots and dinobots varied quite a bit, but Astrotrain had the entire decepticon army hanging out casually in his spacious interior, and Unicron varied from Titan size to planet size. Was anybody else cheated that badly?

Sky Lynx maybe? And there was that time that Hoist was a human sized passenger riding in Huffer (it was Huffer in that scene, wasn't it?)

Good point Skyfire and Skylynx both had similar cargo hold stuff going on. I probably think more about it with astro train because my wife always comments/laughs when they form Devastator, really bringing the ridiculousness into focus. She also always has to comment when Kup and Hot Rod drive under water (at which point I point out that Hot Rod does have rocket thrusters... :D

I've never seen Unicron in any other size than planet size.
