The bot mode looks badass. The altmode... not so much. I dig both wing sets but those hips! They should make the wings interchangeable instead of two different bots. They may get more sales that way.

 

Anyone know how tall he's going to be in bot mode? Curious how he'll scale with MP Star Saber.

 

They will not scale well at all.

He will scale perfectly fine with PX IDW Star Saber though  

 

I'm definitely getting the G1 accurate version.

 

He's only a head or so shorter than mp star, wouldn't look that bad. It's more a case of his stylized proportions and sculpt detailing clashing with cleaner sculpt mps than anything.

 

Even being a uncolored prototype, I still believe this to be one of the best transformers pics ever those two fit perfect together imo and will be displayed like this in my collection(kultur included). I so hope this is the version of there idw deathsaurus mold that MMC releases and didn't tweak the look to much because its beautiful giant arms,hands and all.

 

I still don't know which version I want. I wish they'd just done an upgrade kit like they did for their Overlord.

I can't wait to get this guy, honestly I've never been more excited for a figure. He is going with my tfc hades in there bot modes so I can have his IDW crew. I hope he really does get a Q3 release.

 

I can't wait for this guy. I PO'd both MMC verisons. I like the Planet-X version, but he is a little too short next to Carnifex and Fuuma. MMC's is just the right height compared to those figures in my collection.

 

So, as a matter of curiosity, I decided to measure all of mine. Carnifex comes in at 31.5cm at the top of his head, Fuuma 29cm at the top of his, with Planet X Ismenios coming in at 25cm. Every listing I've found for D-Zef lists him as 25.4cm tall, so the distinction between the height of D-Zef and Ismenios is smaller than a CHUG accessory handle. If you felt Ismenios was too short, it's unlikely that you'll be happy with D-Zef instead.

 

That is true, most sites have D-Zef listed at 25.4cm. I was under the impression that they were just using that number as a filler until they got the actaul specs from MMC. On Show Z. though they have D-Zef listed at 28cm just over 11" and we know Ismenios is 25cm just around 9.8". I think Show Z. was supposed to have gotten their mesaurements from someone that touched the prototype. I don't know all the details behind that, but I patiently await the YouTube reviews when people start to get the pre-production samples. Hopefully, someone will put them side-by-side. Eitherway I do like both figures from what I've seen.

 

To my knowledge, ShowZ is the only place that lists him as 28cm, even Planet Steel Express lists the same 25.4cm as everywhere else. Still, considering both versions of this guy are over a year delayed now, it's entirely possible they could have gone back to the drawing board, but based on the images provided with Carnifex, it would seem almost impossible they're only about 3cm different in height, as opposed to the more likely 6cm.

Edit: Went back and checked the prototype photos of this guy on the first post of this thread, where he's stood up next to Kultur Asterisk Mode, which is listed at 18cm. We can figure D-Zef is about 2 Kultur-sized heads taller than Kultur AM, and each head is about 2cm tall, meaning even that 25.4cm height listing seems a bit optimistic based just on those early prototypes, so the best we can hope for is a whole new prototype, otherwise this guy might end up being even shorter than Ismenios based on the photos provided thus far.

What's funny is that, while Ismenios isn't perfect, it strikes a much better balance as a whole.

Planet X produces highly regaded figures, with Ismenios being my only figure from them, and yet I'd say they are overhyped when taking into account their engineering, paint, and size. MMC is known as one of the best companies around, with their engineering be S-Tier, with their Combaticons being some of the best and most ingenious to date, and yet they have a figure as lack luster as this on the way.

Ismenios is a simple figures, with a design that is effectively just IDW, but blocky. It's bot made looks good, with an adequate range of articulation. It's dragon made is fantastic, with the only major downside being that it has a wide, cockroach looking tail. D-Zef is on the otherhand, is just all over the place. It has a largely IDW inspired bot mode, with the feet and knees being the only "major" inaccuracies. Then we get to the mess of a dragon mode. In G1, Deathsaurus is a Godzilla-like bird monster, in IDW, he is a full on dragon. MMC has chosen to make this guy's dragon mode an IDW-ified, Godzilla-like monster. Which only leaves me with one major question, why ?

Both Planet X and MMC have chosen to make an IDW Deathsaurus, with an add on kit that alters it to appear more G1-like. While Planet X went with an IDW Deathsaurus, with G1 flavoring if wanted, MMC made the confusing choice to have their IDW Deathsaurus be an amalgamation of both IDW and G1 Deathsaurus. Leaving Planet X fitting in with other IDW figures, with a bit of a G1 disguise for kicks, and MMC with a heavily inaccurate Deathsaurus that can't really fit in with either IDW or G1 figures.

 

Honestly, as much as I love all of my MMC Reformatted figures, the overwhelming majority of them have fairly lackluster transformations and engineering. Sure, you get some more involved ones like Inventa Magna, or Carnifex, but for the most part, there's a ton of simplicity to them all, almost on the verge of being disappointing.

Alternatively, much of my Planet X releases are more complex and involved in their design and transformation. The overall aesthetic and minimal paint apps in favor of colored plastic make them look quite similar to each other at first glance, but once you've handled them, the MMC releases are much less interesting to me.
