When they use their Matrix plot powers, activated by the phrase like "Autobots Unite!" and then get all glowy, that's the power.

It's not hard light extra armor like the figures, but the whole character glowy super powers thing. It's the shows way of implementing the "Battle Call" feature that those soon to come out super-expensive voice activated figures are featuring. Hence it being used so often in the last half of the series, such as the Thunderhowl episode where Bumblebee uses it twice, each time saying the catch phrase before getting all glowy and able to solve the plot and when it's introduced, the limitation is that it has to be said out loud to activate.

That's the shift that we've seen a bunch of times in various media and toys where characters can shift between a normal mode and a combat mode, something that's been seen a lot and even some toys do, like Cybertron Optimus Prime.

where with 2 Matrix of Leaderships, Optimus' normal one and Megatrons stolen one, combined to give them super plot breaking powers as needed.

It's sorta reminding me more of a cross between Imperialdramon and Desperadomon myself.

 

Ah okay, so he's not explicitly using the gimmick in-show, but his in-show design is something they were able to replicate in the armor gimmick.

Pretty much, just like how Rack’n’ruin’s armor wasn’t in the show, but it emulates his g1 look

 

great another shelf warming figure....id rather hasbro give us cyberverse prime with his new cybertronian alt mode as shown towards the end of the show.. or even astrotrain

 

Umm, what?, he’s a knight, wolf, werewolf?, that’s literally the most badass thing in cyberverse

 

They are doing a figure of Cybertronian Cyberverse Optimus. We got stock photos of it at the same time that we got the first stock photos of this (pretty sure they were in the same news story).

Those armor figures are going somewhere. Clobber, RnR, Bee, they're all selling as I venture out to the store from week to week.

 

Saw this thing in person at Target today and just sighed.

Animated would have done a cool design like this justice.

So he's basically Krypto The Superdog after he was bitten by a werewolf and infected by a tech-virus then.

I will say this though ; this would have been a really bad ass design in the Transformers Prime toylines.
