I've been removing unwanted factory paint apps for years using denatured alcohol like Snaku mentioned. There's a local chemical company that my work buys 5 gallon drums from, so I just buy some from my boss a quart at a time.
In my experience, denatured alcohol works great for removing factory paint apps on standard ABS type plastics. I've even used it to take off the siege 'battle damage' on Soundwave's chest - but only in Q-tip amounts at a time. DO NOT let it pool or it will craze acrylic plastic wherever there's molded detail or 90 degree corners (like I did on Siege Ratchet's chest... )
Okay, thanks for the advice everyone. I'll have to try this if and when I get this prime figure, maybe even try the faceplate mod if I'm feeling confident enough that I'm not going to ruin the figure's face.
No. It's the Deluxe Movie Trilogy set trailer. I picked it up, used, on Ebay. It was missing the back door, so I had to make a new one. Sides needed to be touched up in places too. I'll try to post photos of the wheelbase adjustment soon. Wasn't too tricky, though.
From what I've seen of comparisons on Emgo's video for ER Op, the G1 trailer is actually bigger than the ER one. You'd have to do a height adjustment since it sits so low tho'.
Wow, I'm torn between being super amazed how much difference those seemingly little cuts made, and how you managed to get them so cleanly and perfectly cut! Outstanding!
It's actually from the Walmart "Vintage G1" Optimus Prime Reissue. It's the wider of the two he comes with. I modified the grip with a 5mm peg so that he can hold it properly and cut down and drilled out the barrel.
That's a really cool mod! Gives Earthrise Prime so much more character! Gives him more of a older and experienced look, a really cool design and major improvement over the original despite it being a really good head sculpt in the first place!
I don't understand why this wasn't the default head sculpt from Hasbro. This evokes the character SOOO much better than original. I love it. I'd do it to mine, but I don't have that steady of a hand.
A mix of Testors Acryl Gloss Blue and a drop each of Guard Red and Matte Black. Two coats of that - then finished with Testors Matte Clear.
Did you use a clear top coat on optimus’ faceplate? It’s apparently very difficult to find a clear coat that doesn’t ruin silver paint
