So, we\'re getting one of the more obscure Mini-Vehicles.

So... when we getting the Throttlebots? (Yes, I know they\'re technically not Mini-Vehicles.)

we got one in Power of the Primes (I was really surprised they didn't gun through them in that line, I feel like the last couple series of Legends was generating a lot of shelf warmers due to the narrow range, 2-3 characters a wave...

It’s not selling out in the way you are thinking it is. People are opening cases, entering them into inventory, and then periodically populating the database with stock.

Then why not be a sci fi gun?

Again, even if he's a sci-fi gun, he's still gonna be silver or grey, and that's still a no-go, still too similar to real-life gun to sell everywhere they want to sell it in terms of laws, let alone in terms of what retailers will accept. In some parts of the US, toy guns need to be cast and painted in unrealistic colors entirely, not just the tip, no matter how unrealistic they are sculpt-wise, and Hasbro's not gonna make product they can't sell in the whole country. Even in places where the law might let them, many major retailers still won't take them (remember, TRU outright rejected that reissue of G1 Megatron in ridiculous orange and blue back in the early 2000s).

Megatron will never be any kind of gun at retail ever again.

I'm just gonna say, Megatron as a gun was bad idea in the 80s and remains one today.

Great for a role-playing toy ala Browning but as leader of the Decepticons? No brilliant. Tank G2 Megatron made much more sense and even with my nostalgia glasses firmly on I think Megatron should always be a show of brute force and raw power.

Given how well he was received, it couldn't have been that bad of an idea.

He was more often a robot than a gun in the series and the comic books ;) . Aye, the character was well received, him being a gun was not a major characteristic really when you look at it.

Anyway it's a moot.point as he will never be a gun in mainstream western media again. At least not anything that is aimed at children in any way. Anything that could be misinterpreted during play could be a disaster right now.

Yep I used Soundwave`s gun for that, too.

The best chance for Megatron to be a gun, even for a one off figure, was as a Legends class toy during CW. They could have modeled him after Shockwave, but didn't.

    Why? Who knows.

Honestly if we want to see a Megatron that at least evoked a gun they should look to his Animated design for that cause his copter alt mode actually did evoke a gun a bit with how his cannon was placed on the cockpit's bottom.

Hasbro really shouldve done a legends gun megatron for titans/combiners before they replaced the legends class with the crappy micromasters

    Anyway, back on topic...

I'm so disappointed by Earthrise Megatron, I'm not really looking forward to the G2 version that's been rumored. I'd LOVE to see Has/Tak make an update of the original G2 mold that's comic accurate and articulated. It's such a shame we ended up with that brick of a figure and that he's been pretty much forgotten for no good reason. I know, he came out during a time when G1 was still a wound for many, but it's a sensible mode and he rocked it so well. Don't get me wrong, CW and Siege/Earthrise are great takes on making a tank mode and G1 look work together... but I do love the old G2 look with the ridiculous chest, the massive cannon on his shoulder and the teeny tiny pistol (by comparison). It was all green with bright purple spots and the stickers with their silly slogans were 90s perfection. I just want that to come back, one more time, but articulated and I'll shut up about it.

It's clear we won't be getting a gun mode Megatron (and I fully understand why) but this is one time they could do it and they just won't. (To be fair, creating new molds just for one specific figure run is insane and costly and no one in their right mind would sign off on it, but it's still a dream worth having is all.)

One comic store here acquired quite a bit of late POTP and early Siege Gen Selects figures. G2 Siege Megatron has been shelfwarming there for a loooooong time now. Looks awful in person, IMHO.

I've always disliked the green G2 Megatron Deco myself. However, I do like the G2 Hero deco better, which is purple. This is what the Legends Megatron figure is based off.

For me, EarthRise Megatron in G2 purple or green seems more as a fill-in homage rather than a proper update. The tank chest is an iconic look for both G2 Megatrons and none of the post-G2 fully articulated, mainline tank Megatrons have the tank chest.

Is that the Gun Megatron that came with the G1 reissue Starscream?

Anyway, regarding ER Megatron I agree that he looks terrible. His unibrow look reminds me too much of a local official...
