Looks awesome, love the toon look. But why Gitanes instead of Citanes? And the wrong colors on the area between the seat and spoiler?

 

Good spot with the Citanes spelling... It can't be any sort of copyright infringement hahah. I'd actually prefer no writing at all to be honest, as he'll be in bot mode for the most part anyway. They've used 'ford' of the engine. They silver text for ford wouldn't show up if a grey was used to match the toon I guess. You're right though, odd choice for those two things... I might paint the engine myself... unless they see this and change it before final run... who do we tag for that?

Engine as well as the trunk, if that's what it is (I don't know anything about racecars). Supposed to be white instead of blue.

i hope they fix the spelling on production, or remove the wording altogether.  

 

Yeah, the only issue I have with this is the Gitanes spelling. Other than that, I like this a lot. Hopefully, TE can change the spelling to Citanes.

 

More than hyped for this thing. PO'd it on Show.Z a week or 2 ago after seeing FT's go out of stock. Needless to say I was probably gonna go with TE's anyway. From what i've seen, it has what I like to call the "Takara Polish". Look at that smiling face, that just SCREAMS official, should you haven't known that this was TE's Mirage from the start. Also goes to show how 3P has evolved over time, where they can almost to a T, create pieces that can easily blend in with official MP pieces. Same thing with FT's Perceptor, my disdain for the lack of a smiling face with him exempt, of course. They both legit look like if Takara made a Mirage and Perceptor respectively.

 

Good for using silver vs chrome, just like their Optimus.

 

I'm fine with either, but i'd probably sit a bit nicer with "Gitanes", just for that real-world reference, a-la the original MP Wheeljack with the Lancia and Alitalia sponsoring on it. Ironic as i'm thinking of replacing that with the + version, for totally different reasons though. I want a Wheeljack that most likely won't yellow over time, haha. Good thing Toyhax has a sticker sheet for the original with Lancia and "Alltalia" stickers, which i'm thinking of putting on the latter, should I finally make the switch.

Gonna fix that last part as well. "I", not the extra "L".

 

Definitely in on this guy. Love the transformation. The integrated shoulder launcher folding up under the front end is simple, yet effective. C'mon pre-orders.

But Gitanes was what the official car sported. I just looked it up. So please don't switch to Citanes, or remove it completely because in the cartoon he didn't have these decals.

 

As the ultimate nitpicker I still have a few issues, just as I did with their Prime. It's annoying that they are obviously going for a toon accurate look, but fall short because of a few easily rectifiable things. Case in point, I think the blue is too light. Okay, so you could argue that is subjective, but what isn't subjective is the lack of white detailing on the crotch piece and the inexplicable decision to use the real-world spelling of Gitanes when neither the toy or toon did. Just looks odd after 35+ years... Same goes for the other colour variances. Not completely sold on the sculpt in general either, but I need to see more live action shots of the bot mode and close-ups of the head/face.

As I said, super nitpicky and I'll probably grab one to compare to the cel Sphinx, but it's really frustrating when these little things are off. Engineering limitations that prevent 100% toon accuracy I can understand, but decos are something that should be right every time. It's not like there aren't enough reference images!

 

I think you're completely right. Maybe Toyhax can make flat blue decals  

But TE are known for listening to the fandom right? So maybe they will make some last minute changes. The white won't be much work either.
