Love the mix of Say My Name near the end! (totally fits this movie) Whelp, looking forward to June now. jD001
Reminds me a bit of Nightmare on elm Street 2 Like Freddy it seems Candyman is trying to use this guy to kill people.
No need for this remake. All it's doing now is making a bunch of stupid idiots go on Youtube and look up 'Say my name' and comment "who's here because of the Candyman trailer"????
What exactly makes Jordan Peele pretentious and insufferable? His two movies have explored themes such as nature vs nurture, class stratification, and objectification. I feel like a pretentious writer or director would only skirt around specific themes. In Get Out and Us, those ideas are the backbone of the films. As for being “insufferable”, I don’t really see it. Peele isn’t being condescending when conveying these ideas and features a lot of levity while doing it. All of this is to say I think Peele is a very solid filmmaker. It’s also worth mentioning that he is only a writer and producer for this. The director is Nia DaCosta.
Cool! Liked the Say My Name remix. Also nifty to see a Bad Brains patch on the backpack on the bathroom door at the beginning.
Get out was shit and Peele saying he won't cast a white lead ever....so I'll be skipping his stupid movies.
In the most blatant and pants-on-head stupid ways possible. Just because you explore these themes doesn’t make you smart enough to understand or convey them properly. Get Out was... okay, but Us was pretty damn stupid. The Twilight Zone reboot is also trash.
I don't see how Peele wasn't "smart enough" to explore themes such as class stratification. He pretty much nailed it with the allegory of "The Tethered" as the working class. Spoiler: Us Spoilers In the movie, "The Tethered" were created to control the lower classes in society. The cultural rift was so disparaging that it was easier to try to control the lower classes than it was to communicate with them. However, "The Tethered" were deemed a failure and abandoned beneath civilization, creating a new cultural divide. This abandonment leaves them poorly educated (they can't speak) and with poor living conditions (they can only eat rabbits). This alienation leads them to literally climb out of their squalor and start a revolution. There's also the idea that the cultural divide turns one against each other to get to the top. Adelaide, rather than go up to the real world with Red, instead forces her to take her place underground. This selfish act causes the revolution to occur with "The Tethered." I'll probably leave it at that as I don't want to get too off-topic with Candyman. I look forward to seeing how Dacosta and Peele will tackle things such as gentrification. There's a lot of storytelling potential with the premise of Cabrini-Green's troubled past being hidden away to be more palatable.
For me, getting anyone to be Candyman other than Tony Todd is like trying to get anyone other than Robert Englund to be Freddy Krueger or Doug Bradley to be Pinhead. Hard to do, easy to miss the mark, & impossible to escape the shadow of the original actor. And Tony Todd is an incredible actor. Whatever I’ve seen him in, whether it’s that heart wrenching episode of Deep Space 9 of the corny as hell Beastmaster 3, he always brings his A-game. They’re not going to find a better Candyman.
His voice alone is great. I don't think his Decepticon characters got good treatment But his voiced matched the look for The Fallen and he did make Dreadwing more interesting
Nia Dacosta released a timely teaser for the upcoming movie: I found the mixing of the fictional origin of Candyman with the real-life tragedies of George Stinney and James Byrd very profound. Especially with how it conveys these tragedies being several decades apart from each other, but the sentiment still being the same about these injustices. If nothing else with this movie, it feels like it actually has something to say and isn't just a cash-in on the name.
Not looking forward to this at all. Get Out sucked, Us sucked, that Twilight Zone reboot really sucked and given the dumb comments the guy's made, I have no reason to think this'll be good.
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure white leads will find roles in literally every other movie, ever, so they won't be hurting for work, lol. As a lifelong fan of horror, I cannot wait for this, I think the trailers look pretty great. Though I agree with the sentiment here that Tony Todd leaves some pretty big shoes to fill. And after watching the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, I am well aware of how wrong this could go.
I read the plot synopsis (spoilers) on Wikipedia and it sure as hell doesn't make sense being that this is suppose to be a direct sequel to the first movie.
