Yeah that’s pretty dumb. It’s not like there’s a huge catalog of DC movies to cycle though. As for the Gone With The Wind thing, I think a pre-film primer is usually the best way to go about rather than trying to remove the film completely. TCM does a great job at contextualizing older films with speaker intros. I think this article provides a good take on the subject: What Are We to Do With Cinematic Monuments to the Confederacy?
Maybe quit being such hypersensitive pu**ified snowflakes whose only meaning in life is to be offended at anything and everything at the drop of a hat?
I read the reason he and Yosemitel ost their guns was they didnt want kids to get desensitized to gun violence......even with the movies and games out now.
Huh, pretty stupid of them to remove Gone with the Wind. It's obviously a period piece so... why not just put a disclaimer over it saying as much? Or are we going to try and rewrite history now? That's not a good look going forward either.
The only people I see getting offended over Gone With The Wind are those who’re mad that its getting a disclaimer notice put on it.
Is that indeed what's happening and that it's not being removed completely? If it's getting a disclaimer about the time period that's great, I fully support that, but pulling it down completely sets a bad precedent like we're trying to rewrite history and that's just as bad as trying to turn a blind eye to it.
I guess that's fine, but I don't see the point. People can look up when a movie takes place for themselves. We need to stop babying everyone.
The setting of the movie isn't the only thing that determines its content. A movie released in 1940 set in 1861 is much different than a movie released in 2020 set in 1861. I'd advise everyone to read the article RetrogradeMercury posted (and not dismiss it out of "weh sjws weh"). Its a great analysis of how while both Birth of a Nation and Gone with the Wind are cinematic milestones that present harmful racial stereotypes of African Americans in service of white nationalism, Gone with the Wind's stereotypes are more condescending and paternalistic, and its legacy more complicated.
Please remove all horror movies, because the black person is always the first to die...kidding but not kidding
I don't care if they put a warning in front of a film. That does not bother me at all. Disney treasure dvds did this as well. Also more dc stuff leaving. Man soon there will be nothing in that dc area! That's right. "every batman and superman movie in the last 40 years" was one of the big taglines they used! HBO Max Will Lose Several Live-Action DC Movies In July If it's owned by wb it never should be yanked off.
Not to mention Gone with the Wind also had its first black actress win an Oscar. Nevertheless, I can't imagine paying $15 a month for a service that is not only going to have me watch edited content, but what the fuck is HBO doing editing content in the first place/ It's HBO. They're supposed to be the mature of the mature. Getting rid of guns in Looney Tunes is not mature at all. What next, a G rated Game of Thrones remake?
The era the story takes place in is close to 0% of the problem. The problem with Gone With the Wind is the era it was written and filmed in.
People are saying BVS is edited! The warehouse scene cuts out batman going back to the guy with the knife! Wow. Anyone want to check it who has max? (i don't feel like checking it out) If true they are editing films now?
What a clusterfuck. Unbelievable that they found a way and made the effort to make a horrible movie even worse.
We may or may not get a roku or amazon version anytime soon. HBO Max: Why Roku & Fire TV Aren't Carrying It - The TV Answer Man!
