The game seems pretty cool from what little I've played of it so far. The combat is very engaging, and the constant chatter from the characters is entertaining. The one thing I'm finding a little cumbersome is the camera controls which require you to hold down the Z button; it'd be nice if the + pad would move the camera without the added button requirement, but oh well.

    Now it's Reyn time!

I played this game for about 13 hours straight yesterday. I felt so grungy, but the game is so good.

I need to resist repeating that same 13 hour binge today and actually go outside, hah.

I played for a good 5 hours straight and pretty much didn't get anywhere storywise. The game has a ton of things to do and keep you busy with a great way to constantly improve your characters. So yeah, so far, at least gameplay wise, this is the best jrpg I've played since FF12, and in fact in a lot of ways reminds me of FF12. It's also one of the best if not the best looking Wii game. I'm also loving the soundtrack so far- it's good to play a game where the music actually pops like this, rather then so many western made games where, even when the soundtrack is good, the music is set so low in the background and played only so often to emulate the way a movie does soundtracks.

Just you wait - the first plot point (that happens around about the 5 hour mark) sunk its hooks into me something fierce. Have a lot of time to spare when you get there because it's going to be very difficult to stop playing when the story moves forward.

The FF12 comparisons are pretty strong in my mind, as well. A similar, open MMO style world and combat system with an emphasis on party tactics. The "kill X things for me!" quests, while initially seeming kind of lame, make doing the often optional combat relevant, which is nice because you'll need to keep up with the game in terms of experience and equipment level as you progress.

Picked this up and started playing it. This may be the third JRPG game I will ever like. (The other two being Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger) I LOVE the combat system.

Yeah I put a few more hours into it and I'm fairly certain I know what you are talking about and I'm pretty surprised but glad they did that so early on. It added some weight to the story.

So yeah, still enjoying it thoroughly. But how is this for sexism- first few hours, I have a guy who's a researcher and wears some pretty decent armor, another guy who is a soldier and again wears some good armor, and then the girl- she cooks, and her most powerful armor is a bikini. Just thought that was funny and had to point i out.

Holy baloney, a found an old necrothread. I wonder if there would be anything wrong posting on this for the Definitive Edition.

I see no issue. It’s the same game. I’ve been playing through on my Switch. I have the 3DS edition but I don’t have the Wii version.

the 3ds version really pales to the switch version. the grainyness really put strain on my eyes and I never ended up finishing it. im about 25 hrs in on switch and its been a great ride so far. super fun and much less convoluted then xbc2.

I read this thread from the beginning and realized its the OG Wii game. I was expecting a time jump to the 3DS game before timejumping to the Switch game, but it never came. It skipped the 3DS game altogether!

Anyway, never got a chance to play the Wii version, and owned an OG 3DS, so never played the 3DS version because it required the new 3DS, so the Switch is my first experience with the game. 5 hours in and I am still trying to figure out the battle system, but I am enjoying it so far.

One of the reasons I couldn't get into XBCX was I couldn't get used to the combat system. Weird since it didn't take too long for me to get used to it in XBC.

So after I'm done with XBC I think I'll go back to XBCX.

The thing that gets me about the Definitive Edition is how much more expressive the characters are when compared to the Wii version. I feel like the jump from having face textures to actual 3D models really improves in this way: 3D models are just so much better at displaying subtle emotions when compared to Wii-era textures.

As much a I like the dub of the first game, the weird bad translation of the Faced Mechon names annoyed me. Black Face becomes "Metal Face" (which is a dumb name since they're all metal anyways), Brown face becomes 'Mysterious face', Silver Face becomes... Face Nemesis.

So yeah, I get why they probably changed Black Face's name, even if I still think that's a dumb reason. But Brown Face too? They should've just called Black Face "Onyx Face" to go with how they called Green face "Jade Face" and call Brown Face "Umber Face" or something.

Found out about a new glitch in Xenoblade Definitive Edition today, although apparently it's been known for like a week. If you use expert mode to level down your party members before starting new game plus, Sharla (and possibly others) will end up with a massive amount of affinity coins. Like, 65,000 of them. For reference, it's normally capped at 999. No idea how that will work with a second new game plus after that.

Edit: Just confirmed it works for the next character after Sharla as well.
