Of the relationships in SwSh, few do entertain me more than Melony's spat with her kid, to the point she requests you to kick the crud out of him should you ever meet in battle :lol

I only ever played Sword’s story in full, so I never got to experience her side of things, just the unpleasantness of her son. Ugh, worst leader.

That's something the folks at the Trading Card Game definitely understand.

To be fair, that's nothing new for the TCG. Gen 5 and 6 had Cheren and Tierno that did that too. And there's been at least 3 different Professors for a card that makes you discard your hand and draw 7. :lol

This Hau and Hop comparison just reminds me of this though

The thing is though character wise they are different.

H'au is just a happy, somewhat obtuse, friendly guy who likes to eat, train and battle. When defeated he just smiles it away and cheers you and himself on. Even at the end he finds a place training alongside his Grandpa again.

Hop may be friendly and upbeat, but he has more of a drive to be the best than just being the best. He is constantly looking up to his brother and wants to prove he can be just as strong. Once he gets beaten by Bede a few times, he starts questioning himself and struggles with the concept he isn't like his brother. That he's a failure of a champion's brother. His go to Pokemon is Wooloo, but half way in the game when Hop is struggling, he doesn't use Wooloo. Instead he starts clamoring for maybe if he had stronger Pokemon, he'd be better. Hence why he just comes out with Trevenant, Heatmor and etc. Its why his team changes like 3 times. He tries various times but still falls short. Its around the champion cup Hop grounds himself and brings back to sticking with his original mons, showing his rediscovered confidence in himself. Then at the very end, decides he doesn't need to be a champion to prove his worth and instead, he'll train to be the next Pokemon Professor of Galar.

H'au doesn't have a struggle or arc, Hop struggles with his identity and has a personal arc.

They may share the same animations, but they are not the same character.

I’ve been watching the Sun/Moon anime with my kids, and I found Acerola’s shiny Mimikyu, named Mimikins, absolutely adorable. So I bred Mimikyu like hell in Sword, and just got a shiny a few minutes ago. Guess what I named it ;)

It sounds like Hop gets more interesting later on. But for now I'm all team Bede, he's the type of personality that I feel good crushing in each battle.

huh, seems like something you could idiot proof. Why not make the purchase be for just a generic expansion pass, and then check the Device to see which version of the game people have? If they have both then pop up a prompt to ask which version they want to download? Or better yet just make one expansion that works for both games so you don't have to buy it twice if you really want to play it in both games... but that would be too consumer friendly.

Lol, that's a terrible mentality to approach product design with.

I don't mean to start anything, but its a not so great mentality to think Pokemon Shield DLC would work on Pokemon Sword.

Btw, speaking of DLC. Some new info.

Some previews have been released for the Isle of Armor. Within this, there are a few clarifications we have received. Firstly, IGN have stated that the first trainer battle they found was at Level 60 and the trainers and wild Pokémon you encounter will scale to your progress, to what extent we don't currently know. In it, there are more Pokémon interacting with surroundings such as one being a tree branch. Players must complete three trials in order to earn sacred armor. One challenge involves collecting Max Mushrooms, an ingredient for Max Soup which is used to activate ability for Gigantamax.
IGN have listed a side quest where you have to find 150 hidden Alolan Diglett across the area.
We'll bring more details as they come so keep checking back

Is it though? Is it really too much to expect a consumer to read the name of what they are buying? Considering the game version is specified in the DLC title, it really isn't too much of an expectation

Yes, that's literally the approach you take when designing a product. In my industry we have a process called conceptual design review, and the DLC as a concept would have failed our review process early on because it's not murphy proofed. As a designer you work with the assumption that your customer is very very dumb and doesn't read. So that the dumb people that don't read can still have an enjoyable experience with your product and you sell more.

Personally, that is exactly the thought processes that leads to idiot consumers buying the wrong product when it is clearly named. By "murphy proofing" you are essentially absolving the consumer of any intelligence they may need when making a purchase. It's like buying a gobot instead of a transformer and figuring they're both transforming robots. If you make that mistake then you clearly don't know how to read.

I have to point out something to keep in mind here... I'd have to imagine, there would be a lot of parents helping their kids get this DLC, where the parents and/or kids might not even realize there are two different versions of the DLC. Along those lines, when I was a kid, if I wanted a particular toy, I'd have to give my mom a pretty good description of it (or better yet, print out an actual picture of it), beyond simply the name of the product. She had no idea what the difference was from one transforming toy to the next because that's not her interest, let alone when there's like 10 different versions of the same character on shelves.
