Yeah, I honestly can't understand how anybody thinks the SS figures look better.

 

Scrapmetal forms the Upper forearm of Devastator in wich Hightower connects. then the small excavator wich some people (myself included) call Buckethead, connects to Hightower forming the hand. the small set of treads are Scrapmetal's

 

That's the way I see it too, although it bends my mind to think of Scrapper as the size of all three of them combined.

Something I've considered for a long time is the possibility that Devastator can be formed with variable components---not just Demolisher/Scavenger or Rampage/Skipjack, but different amounts of robots. This could explain why he's sometimes depicted without Overload, or Payload, or Buckethead and/or Scrapmetal, although there is then the problem of limbs being out of proportion to one another---if Hightower is the only robot comprising the left arm, then it would be considerably smaller than the right. But if Scrapper is left out, Buckethead and Scrapmetal may then replace him and the gestalt ends up with shorter arms. Or for instance, if we accept that Devy's face is formed by Scavenger, then it may be possible that Mixmaster could be omitted at the cost of the vortex grinder.

Just some theory crafting, and something fun to think about, since we really don't know how combiners work in Bayverse.

 

Isn't this something that hasbro themselves said a long time ago? That they're basically a mass-produced army which is why you see them in other scenes or even in dotm, and that they can combine in pretty much any way with any number of them. This is such a cool idea that of course was never in the movies themselves, leaving 99.9% of viewers just scratching their heads.

I hadn't heard of that! It makes a lot more sense than the other idea that's been floating around about some of them being non-combining drones. If you could find a source I'd be much obliged.

 

Honestly I've just heard it from people on the boards. But I've heard it from multiple people over multiple years. Can anyone else help us? I think it was a hasbro rep at a convention or something. Not a 100% canon source but as good as we're gonna get for a half-baked idea.

´Scrapper is about the same size as Long Haul.

 

Also if you look at the cab section on his SS figure it's really tiny compared to the cab on Rampage or Scrap Metal, which means his alt mode is meant to be way bigger.

Transformation looks way more fun and less horrible than Split. I love how the truck front wraps around the thighs! Leg mode still looks like the best mode. I don't like how lanky the bot mode is. I'm positive that those saying it's based on the rotf voyager are correct.
