Should Megatron be a more mysterious force of evil?

    Oh, the irony...

Necro-posting is basically when somebody revives a thread that's been inactive for a while and doesn't really add anything to it.

It could be an interesting take, but my gut instinct says it's probably not fitting for Megatron. I prefer Megatron as a reasoning tactical leader. Making him some sort of mysterious Sauron-esque force of evil might be more suited to someone like The Fallen or even Unicron.

Mine as well throw my two cents before this thread Disapears again, I think Megatron as a mysterious villain could work *cough Animated Megatron cough* but in some cases it hurts The incarnation.

I just realized this was necro-posted after I liked a post. Whoops!

Since I'm here; as long as Megatron doesn't into a Thanos. By that I mean he's a end credits baddie reveal who only appears in 2-3 films in small intervals before making a full blown film centered on him only to undermine him in future films. Megatron is as a constant threat to the Autobots as Optimus Prime is a reminder of hope and compassion to Bumblebee and the other Autobots so it stands to reason he should get just as much screen time. I really like what IDW and partly what IDW2 is doing; he wants a better future for Cybertron, but his methods are unorthadox and destructive compared to Prime's who just happens to be on the council's payroll. The two butt heads until Megatron is forced to get ugly and what he does to the planet sets the Great War in motion.

Plus I just kinda want a Moses v. Ramses dynamic for the prequel. Pretty please Travis Knight?

Megatron doesn't need to be mysterious, in my opinion he just needs to be way more violent and scary for little children.

If evil is committing unspeakable horrors all Megatron’s (even Those who stick a red symbols on their chest to live out redemption fantasies to feel better about themselves and improve their PR) are tyrants, bullies, mass murders, war criminals, sadists etc but the one trait that many share which could be viewed as a positive trait in certain circumstances is his defiance and determination to overcome the more overpowered mystical elements of the transformers universe whether it be Unicron, Primus or biological life itself. his own will and dominance must be absolute over everything.

Even when he fell under the shackles of the omnipotent Unicron he went to extreme lengths travelling through time and space in an effort to defy this impossible to beat seeming foe.

Giving us a Satan worshiping or mystical evil Megatron seems like a reduction of the character. If you want this kind of thing I don’t see why they can’t use characters like the fallen or some the different takes on bludgeon character to play this this role in the story.

Why can't Megatron just be a Cybertronian fascist again? There's no need to reinvent the wheel, trying to do that is what gets you saddled with IDW Megatron.

There does seem to be some effort out there to change the character from robo-Hitler to robo-Magento. Perhaps it's born out of a need to make Megatron seem more sympathetic but, no, that's not who Megatron is or should be. He believes the only way to lasting peace is with him in complete control. And it's amusing to me that he has a second in command that shares those exact ideals to the letter...meaning he, Starscream, also believes the only way to lasting peace is with Starscream in complete control IF Megatron fails at his duty (and he really would like Megatron to fail...).

All writers should be looking to Beast Era, JP Armada, and TFA Megatron for reference on the ideal Megatron.

Beast Megatron in particular especially as far as methods and ruthlessness go. His camp is unique to him tho, I would like to see essentially a Live Action TFA Megs who shared the intellect, ruthlessness, sadism, and tactical acumen of Beast Megatron with the classier, charismatic, "gentleman, our next mission shall be..." mannerisms of Armada Megatron.

I'd prefer Corey Burton or David Kaye to Frank Welker as well.

I know that his tech specs stated that his motto was "peace through tyranny", but I've always found "everything is fodder", which was mentioned in his long bio, to be the more interesting motive.

I sort of see the Decepticons as a ruthless meritocracy where everything is on the table. You can rise through the ranks through military cunning, savagery, strength and just plain ambition. The strong survive, the weak perish. Megatron leads because he is the strongest, not only in power but also in intelligence. He has the aforementioned qualities in spades. The Decepticons believe that you can have anything you want, so long as you are strong enough to take it. This ranges from their place in the military hierarchy and government to, essentially, intergalactic conquest.

The Decepticons impose their will on weaker, organic species because they're able to. They're larger, impossibly more powerful and infinitely more durable. Megatron wants to enslave humanity and have us mine our planet for its resources. This is all to expand the Decepticon Empire and have Cybertron take its 'rightful' place in the cosmos. According to the Decepticons, the Transformers are a superior race, and as such Cybertron should be the crown jewel of the galaxy. Organic races should be subservient to them because they are inferior forms of life, because they're weaker and don't deserve the same rights as the Transformers.

That's why the Autobots oppose them - because freedom is the right of all sentient beings. They defend the weak and innocent because they are able to, because that is a responsible use of their strength.

I never saw Megatron as a Galactic Conqueror. His goal was to end the war with himself in charge of Cybertron. As Galvatron, he seemed to move into loftier galactic ambitions...but Megatron always seemed to be satisfied with being able to be in control of his singular planet.

I would love a sort of dictator-type Megatron with a shroud of mystery covering him, to be revealed later on. It would add an interesting element to his character.

I would have thought Unicron would be a better fit for a mysterious, unseen, Sauron-like force. I've always seen him as an omega-level threat that can scare the bejeesus out of Autobots and Decepticons alike.

I think megatron should be more of a sympathetic character like he’s trying to make the world a better place personally I feel that starscream, shockwave, and overlord should be more of a mysterious force of evil
