I’m changing my vote after the recent reveals. I’m not quitting anytime soon. I may slow down, but never quit. I do, however, have to stop saying I’m going to sell things and just do it.
I don't have a specific goal for my collection, so I also don't have an end in sight. As long as Hasbro and Takara keep making figures I like I can very well keep buying, at least until I run out of space. There are, however, two figures that I feel I need to add to my collection before even starting to consider quitting which are Scorponok and Unicron, so by next year when they will be both released I should be able to feel at least a partial sense of accomplishment when looking at my shelves.
I gave up in 2011. I was pulled into collecting as an adult in... 98? 99? Near the end of Beast Wars and the start of Beast Machines. I had thoughts of dropping out near the end of Cybertron, but the Animated series was so fun and you had some good stuff (some) from the film. I was getting more disenchanted after Revenge of the Fallen, and finally gave up around Dark of the Moon. How many movie Bumblebees did I need? Leader Ironhide was one of the last toys I got, but I distinctly remember the Power Core Combiner Dinobots, and Power Core Combiners in generally, really make me wonder what the hell I was doing. I never lost my love for the franchise, though. Still kept tabs. I had stopped posting here but I checked in from time to time. Siege brought me back early this year. I am aware I have a bit of a toy addiction, and retail therapy has helped me through the past few months. I have limits on space, and I don't wish to do this for another decade. I love the WFC line so far, and am allowing myself the indulgence. I do not know if I will continue once it is over.
Probably soon now with how the things are going, im not really interested in buying the same characters that have the same boxy design and i got a few years ago that slightly look different
With Mom's passing, it's definitely on pause for now. I boxed up the few I had displayed. Can't bear to look at them right now, knowing I'll never be able to show them to her. She was always impressed by the engineering and would get a chuckle out of the "If you say so" (i.e., Cybertonian) modes. I cancelled a lot of preorders because I'm unsure of funds down the road.
I just need a good Tracks and Blaster, in addition to the stuff we know about, then I'll be done with G1. Now if they start leaning heavily into G2 or BW I'll be back in the game.
I voted no as I don’t see anything ever being finished. The better way for me to describe it would be “different way of collecting.” I see a day where I don’t collect what Hasbro puts out, but that would mean my G1 collection gets more focus. I see a day where Masterpiece truly is finished, but that would mean I round out my BotCon era figures. So it’s more of a shifting of focus than anything.
I might think I'm getting close someday but then Hasbro/Takara will probably show off something that makes me change my mind. I know at this moment I am not because there are still some less popular characters I'd like to see get Generations updates first and so far Selects is helping me with that like the Galactic Man repaint and the upcoming Hubcap. As some others have mentioned though, just because I'm not ready to stop doesn't mean I might not slow down some down the road due to finances or other factors. Also helps that Hasbro gives us really good versions of characters like Earthrise Optimus, Starscream, and that Netflix WFC Megatron. That will save me from having to buy anymore of these characters because I feel confident enough to say that they are the definitive versions in my collection from here on out.
I always find something new TF related to throw my Shekels at...Like now for instance: I dont care for the generations line at all but since I have Trypticon, I needed Brunt right? Right...Brunt is awesome right? Right....Lets have Sixgun since I found him on sale and Utopia needs a minion (even if that minion cant perform its supposed function) right? Right....Oh well heres a Lionizer....Why not? And a Pteraxadon.....You know what? Brunt was such a good figure I might as well as get Zetar.....But whats this? A Cog on sale? You catch the drift.... Also I somehow trapped me in starting with legends.....Because I wanted a deskbot and now I cant stop.... So...yeah....
I think I might be close. Right now I only want a few of the MP's out that I don't already have, a handful of G2 toys I want and I don't want everything shown for this year(only want some) Over the years I realized what I truly liked out of the Transformers I bought. I wish I was more selective all along. I wish the entire mindset behind SIEGE was in place over 15 years ago when the materials were better and when I felt the figures were more worth the cost. If I could go back in time, I would've gone more heavy with Beast Wars, bought all the G2 cyberjets, bought G2 Hero Megs/Optimus, bought RID Railracer bought a lot less of Armada Energon/2007 movie/DOTM/AOE/Alternators/Universe Classics 2.0/FOC/Beast Hunters/Prime RID/Combiner Wars and only stuck with Headmasters and Jetfire for G1. In the last 13 years I realized that some of my fondest memories of the toys weren't of the toys themselves but the hunt for them. That to me, was a needed realization as it's helped make up my mind of what to sell.
Depends on what Hasbro has up their sleeves. The stuff coming up is very nice: Scorponok, Skylynx, Quintesson judge and so on.
It's definitely an adrenaline rush and a goal to achieve. However, after starting a purge last year, I'm keeping what I still like, parting with the rest. The memory of the hunt is all I need from the rest. Wasn't easy to come to that conclusion but I'm glad it happened.
Give me a new Tracks, Skids, Blaster (and cassettes), Sureshot, and Pointblank, then I will be done. Any updated G1 characters from Masterforce to ROC will just be icing on the cake.
I have been pondering the next steps of my collection for quite some time...but I'm gonna have to put "not sure" on that poll. I do feel a sense of finality approaching as my collection becomes a little more focused and several "big" wants are checked off the want list. On one hand, I do collect some TFs as a roster, such as the MPMs. I just wanted the original five bots from the 2007 movie and a few Decepticons; after Ratchet and Starscream, I am pretty much done with MPMs and would only purchase more on a case-by-case basis. I also have a few more MPs I would like to buy, and it's all stuff that I missed due to being too young or not paying attention. On the other, I get a great deal of joy from multiple aspects of collecting. I feel it is a fairly healthy tether to my childhood. I generally also try to only purchase figures are fun. That's why I suddenly bought a Siege Spinister and he's a new favorite. Plus, there's always something to pull me back in, even if Hasbro stops making stuff I love. It's like that classic story of the old veteran returning for one last job... TL;DR: I can say "It's over, finished!" until I am blue in the face, but then Hasbro comes along with another cool toy and it's not. It's never the end.
