    Here's my theory:
    MP Grimlock
    MP Hot Rod
    MP Rodimus
    MP Ultra Magnus
All these molds already exist. I wouldnt see it past Hasbro to re-release them and branded them as Studio Series figuress or shrink them down to the current SS/CHUG scale and release them to fit with all the mainline stuff

Playing around w/ a theoretical Studio Series 86 movie optimus box, wonder what logo they'll use?

I would, because it'd be ridiculously expensive. There's no such thing as "shrinking" a mould. You can shrink the design and create new moulds, but given how complicated those toys are they're be prohibitively expensive and far too fragile scaled down. At that point they'd might as well start from scratch, because they pretty much would be anyway.

If anything HasTak may copy some of the basic engineering/design, or copy some sculpted elements such as headsculpts, but they wouldn't use the existing MP moulds at all. It's just not feasible.

I’d imagine they’d go for a more retro design, and probably have a 35th anniversary thing on the side.

I think the 86' subline will be just the characters that appeared the first time in the movie, such as cyclonus, kup, perceptor, blaster, etc.

Kind of already off the mark there... Grimlock showed up in S1 and both Perceptor and Blaster first showed up in S2.

While that's true, they probably didn't know how to release wheelie and it could be a proper gimmick free grimlock too.
    i want a better g1 megatron though

Honestly, I'm hoping the Grimlock will be gimmick-free and scale with WfC. I have FoC Grimlock as a stand-in at the moment, but he's not exactly G1 but he's as tall as Magnus so he works... much better than the Grimlock from PotP that was a shrimp and hampered by his combining gimmick. Personally I think this might be the best way to get the Dinobots in the proper scale that everyone wants over the course of a year or so if they're going to be putting 1986 movie-related merch in SS even if it's just for the 35th anniversary next year (and I honestly only think it will be for the 35th).

I think you're right, the cyclonus that just leaked doesn't have all the earthrise/siege panel lines, instead it looks like the 86 movie panel lines. It might be part of a new cartoon accurate series.

Earthrise Starscream / Classic Seeker mold
They upscaled and updated an old design.
They can borrow the engineering for MP Grimlock, which isnt a complicated/involved transformation like most current MPs, and put it out as a leader class.
BTW, MP Grimlock isnt that big to begin with.

In the case of MP Grimlock, I kind of agree with you. They could easily borrow some of the engineering from him. Compared to most modern MP's he's no bigger than a pre-WFC leader class figure and probably about as complex. I'm sure he'd have to be simplified, but you're correct that they could easily borrow the engineering. Hasbro has done this plenty of times in the past... just not from an MP before.

A G1 Grimlock with full articulation is really all that's needed. Dumbing down the MP would actually be more difficult. Why Hasbro hasn't done something like this is beyond me. Adding articulation to a figure's arm, leg, even the torso must be easier than redesigning the thing from the ground up. I think the POTP figures were all new because of the combination gimmick.

Either way, the finished product will be quite the show when it's finally unveiled.

Honestly, I don't care how Hasbro does it as long as I have a nice G1 Grimlock that will scale with my current Transformers collection that's not hampered by gimmicks. :D

I'm fine with the new Grimlock(if G1 indeed) borrowing the transformation from POTP Grimlock without the tail diaper and being scaled proportionally to the rest of WFC. The transformation was the best thing about POTP Grimlock to me.

I also want integrated weapon storage somehow and the slimmer arms that the G1 toon/toy Grimlock had but no modern G1 Grimlock has.

Yeah, I think that figure could have been good if a lot of it wasn't hampered by the need to incorporate a combiner gimmick. He also needed bigger "wings" in robot mode... they should be easily visible from the front, but the PotP version's were barely noticeable. Though he'd need to be a little bit taller to fit in with the current line.
