I don’t understand why we have to go round and round with this understanding all the time. Fanstoys products have their faults but they are consistent with their approach. We know that the paint and finish will look premium, the bot mode will be good with heroic proportions and the transformation will range from unenjoyable to decent and the articulation will be average to above average in most cases. They are more about shelf presence than being toy.

People demand perfection but each of these companies have their priorities, compromises and weaknesses. By now we can have reasonable expectations of what kind of figures we will receive and make our decisions accordingly.

I also prefer possability over sculpt, to a degree, I like some of the Takara masterpieces for that reason. But speaking of Hot Rods, I personally like neither, both have their own glaring issues that I am not comfortable with.

But if I have to pick one at a discount, it would be MP Hot Rod.

Just put those people on ignore. Not because they criticize FansToys. I mean that's fair game, but because they are telling us how to collect.

In the meanwhile keep buying FT products. That means less money for other products that they like.

It seems like your DX9 Carry can actually hold its gun properly. How did you do that?

i just use the putty used for timber repair and just did a touch up around the handles. And I just make sure the index finger is folding tightly on the gun itself

My Rodimus shelf is finally complete....for now. (Flame Warrior, you’re up!)
Also thanks to @pezley for the shoulder joints. Makes the already solid shelf presence that much better. A400FD3E-C61D-4D6B-91D1-69123A4EFFCE.jpeg 926BD8CF-B1FD-4F62-BF47-E2C4E784E114.jpeg

I think it is more this product is over a year old and you are still coming here to bash it. You don’t like the figure that is fine but there are others that like it and come to this forum to talk about it. Your opinion is valid as your opinion, but if you are looking to “win” people over to your side I am sure that time has past.

Given how many pretty good deluxe hot rods we've had over the years, I'm really shocked that MP hot rod is proving so impossible for everyone (especially when MP 9 LOOKED fine- when he wasn't spontaneously exploding- both my copies have been fine so far).

I actually prefer the mp target master version (I have all 3). I know the deco isn't fully toon accurate, but it really de-emphasizes the worst aspects of the mold.

My shoulder upgrade finally came in.

Massive improvement, but I also have to wonder, Pezley, is it possible you could do a run with the upgrade kit in more neutral or dark gray color? I feel like that would stand out less than the color you currently went with. Edit: Although, I'm noticing in certain lights the current color doesn't really stand out that much. Edit2: Sadly the shoulder upgrades don't fix the fact that Hoodlum's innards keep coming apart every time I mess around with his arms. God, I just hate how Hoodlum feels so incomplete and loosely held together. Edit3: But I still think Hoodlum is the best option we have for Hot Rod in an MP display. MP-28 is really fun to transform and I love to grab him whenever I get that itch to transform something while I'm looking at prettier TFs with more obnoxious transformations, like Hoodlum. But as a display piece, MP-28 is probably Takara's biggest dud (at least until their Arcee comes out). It just looks too much like something I can buy off the shelf for 20 bucks as part of the Generations line.

I've tried a few different colour options. ABS filament is limited in colours compared to PLA ( PLA would not be strong enough for these ) so it was either a bright red, dark grey or pink. I tried all 3

    Bright red looked the worst
Grey looked out of place because it was actually more obvious which would normally be fine except the shoulder hinge is quite thin and that really stood out.
Pink was the best visual balance.

I have a resin printer arriving this week so it will be much easier to make up a matching maroon, it really does depend though if resin is up to the task. If it is, expect to see some changes to the design

As for the torso not securing... Yep, hoodlum is a terribly poor design sadly. I have made some extra clips for the inner torso which help its stability but haven't finalized them yet

Ive been thinking about that. I want to get a 3d printer but am stuck to which type I want to get. An FDM or MSLA. FDM has a bigger print volume with different types of material but MSLA gives way better quality prints for miniatures and stuff of that nature. I think MSLA would be good for making blasters, props, and fixes but I am unsure of the strength of both types.

And Hoodlum is still a great figure to have for my movie shelf. :)

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your progress with that resin printer.
