I think there’s more than enough room to do what I’m thinking with the arm panels! The next issue to figure out is how to make them so the DNA kit can still attach, since that spot on the shoulders is exactly where that back piece slides on to.
I've decided to finally add some paint to my Ironhide. @Shmoptimus Prime what did you use to paint the matte sections like the torso/bumper whilst not leaving any brush marks? Also are there any good reference images around for colouring all the mechanical details?
I haven't painted the bumper at all yet. I've left it gray. However I did paint it on my studio series ironhide and I used a flat black spray. I think matte would look a bit too flat.
Oh right, the faux bumper/torso bit, and the grey hexagonal shapes near the knees looked painted on yours, I figured you'd used some matte paint or something. I might try and copy what BMB did with the deco on their upscale KO to cover the bare grey plastic. This is actually my second copy of the figure, my first was a QC mess and I also broke the backpack off, but Kapow had it on discount so decided I'd give it a second try. I can't remember if the die cast was this shiny when I first got it or if its oxidised over time, older figure on left, new on right:
It's the Wei Jiang version that people should wait for. They fixed everything and redesigned the entire upper body so the arms are actually not attached to shoulders, back is accurate, kibble properly attached to the shoulders instead of arms and folds up better, cannons can transform and integrate to vehicle mode and look way more accurate too.
Is there any way to make the chest wheels tuck into the torso? That's my biggest gripe with this figure; that the wheels have a gap between the torso.
Lucked out on Amazon and got him brand new for $70 due to some damage on the box. I had to rotate one of his clips that tabs his shoulder into the chest but after that he isn’t too bad. I still have the DNA kit coming but I’m still pretty happy. The detail and paint is incredible!
Does anyone have the Kit for this guy? been wanting mine to have more solid shoulders as I mess with my figures quite a lot.
Case in point, I looked up SS Ironhide on eBay earlier today, and he is going for ridiculous money...well over $100 in some cases... He’s a good figure...but Jesus...
