If I'm not mistaken, then it's an EU regulation that package over a certain value (22 euro) will have to be taxed (VAT). I think there's even a standard percentage. Thus receiving packages in an EU country means being liable to pay those taxes. However, not every country is equally strict in upholding those regulations, plus not every country has the capacity to inspect every package, meaning some slip through. (And it can also help to get them at a certain time of the year: late in the year means higher risk, since they have to meet quota's.)

And especially since the the 2008+ economic crisis the rules are applied more strictly, especially if a country got financial aid to fight the crisis (like Ireland in @Sam's case).

But it certainly means that it is beneficial to only buy at stores that lower the value. I'm also definitely in the AE camp because Amazon jp will result in import taxes. (Don't get me wrong, I can understand the reason for these taxes -- you also pay them for products you buy in a store -- but I think calculating them over the value of the package + the shippings costs, and then add some 15 euro's over them for administration/handling costs, if unfair: if it was just the value of the package I would pay them without issue.)

What purpose do these serve? I've mostly ignored them up until now.

The tab in the first picture is used when transforming Hound to have his missile launcher on his left shoulder in robot mode.

Not sure about the second picture. Perhaps it's related to a yet-to-be-seen add-on to or maybe that big rifle we saw at that Hong Kong toy show before can store there in vehicle mode.

To varying degrees, yes. I don't know how many have had it break off completely, but there have been many reports of the plastic in that area cracking. There have been rampant issues with the plastic on this figure. If you have one with absolutely zero issues, you're in select company. If you have the option, your best bet is to return the figure for a refund and wait for a reissue because any replacement is more likely than not to have some sort of plastic issues at some point down the line.

Smart! We only saw that rifle from the other side, so it's highly likely it does have a gap on the other side to peg in.

Still wonder what the heck their plan is for that rifle. If the only Hound repaint we get is Detritus then I hope his rifle is chromed (though it wasn't for the toy). Of course at this point MP-47+ could just as easily be Detritus as it could be a toy-accurate repaint.

The only catch is if you plan to transform this thing, this might not be the only part that breaks or cracks... Even if you don't touch it from here on out, it might still crack in spots. Unfortunately, as handsome as this figure looks, it was a total dud on the materials front. A corrected reissue is a highly desired thing around these parts.

A friend offered his MP47 for "cheap" to me, I'd debating buying it. He's had it since Dec and it shows no cracks or chips. Is it safe to assume it's a "good" one and worth picking up? I have FT Willis so I'm not feeling Hound-deprived, but I am interested in seeing this "perfect design" in person.

Please don't purchase that toy from your 'friend'. I wouldn't sell my Hound to @Sam or @chchchch or @Phamduc. These guys are people I would call friends. Even if I haven't actually met them; I chat with them regularly outside of TFW. My Hound doesn't show signs of cracking and I wouldn't feel comfortable selling this toy to anyone. The figure will get returned to AMJ. Or it will go in the trash. I'm not accepting ANY 'will you sell for shipping' messages. Zero. No exceptions. TT wasn't privy to this fuck up, and I will forgive them. I will buy another hound when it's reissued.

That all said, I think you should wait for the reissue as well. IMHO 90%+ of Hounds will fall apart in a few specific places. This isn't due to the engineering. It's because a factory tried to skimp on some costs after a contract was settled.

Or you have some money to burn. if you can anticipate getting a faulty figure then you can enjoy it. I have this once.

That's part of my thinking. I'm just surprised it's intact with no cracks after being transformed and displayed for 6 months. Figured by now it'd show something. My friend is getting out of toy collecting (his wife has the crazy idea that new babies are expensive) and was giving me "first dibs" before things go to ebay.

If you're okay with a shelf queen or the deal is so good it's worth it even if it does break...then sure. But if 'cheap' is only cheap considering its original price, then I'd just wait for a reissue.

Want to pull the trigger on this figure but the qc is inexcusable. For the 1st time I think I'm going to have to get the ko. Pity you can't sneeze within a 5 mile radius without cracking the figure...

Pulled the proverbial trigger. Worst case, I’m out a few bucks and put Willis back on display. Either way, I got a hell of a deal, and helped a friend get some cash during a tough economic time.
