If they'd designed him to be an arm like he should be, we wouldn't have to worry at all about how his head looks in leg-mode.

 

By looking at the combined mode you could probably untab the arms and angle them out a bit and then have the neck/head go between them if that would suit your style more. DOubtful that would affect the stability.
I see you would've preferred the more G1 style of the head protruding from the upper chest but this set is heavily stylised and all the units are going through big changes. They did rework the figure from having the head literally having no neck and just plopped on top of the torso to having a neck so he's hunched over but the classic chest-protrusion was never even considered.

 

I don't think so, the original design has the monster head positioned correctly in leg mode.

The black silhouette suggest otherwise, but who knows, we will have to wait to find it out.

 

I can't recall, is it certain that they can't scramble? The seacons could. Seems a step back in effort to not have them scramble.

Yeah, you can alter the look of the various modes through mistransformation, I suspect. But they didn't heavily rework the design it's just transformed differently in those images.

If you look, those ears on the right are flipped upside down to be... floppy ears[?] on the right.

Not true anymore as the design changes, in this particular case to Blots combined mode, means that the initial shillouette is no longer valid.

Those leg pics look like they were taken separately and superimposed. The mismatch in the feet is likely just bad color correction in Photoshop.

 

The G1 toy art, G1 toy instructions, and G1 toon, were quite consistent, with the only issue being the instructions had the left and right legs switched compared to the others. But arm vs leg were consistent, as well as who was which arm. "Then one day, someone* drew a neat picture that had Blot a leg". We've had leg-Blots ever since, contrary to how Abominus was during his first 20 years of existence...

*normally, I am a huge fan of Dan Figueroa. But not that drawing, since it seems to be the only drawing of Abominus that China has ever seen...

But it's one of the coolest drawings of him, maybe that's why it is more prominent than his original G1 configuration. Since Cang Toys designer is designing this as well, they could make their own version resembling his appearance in Call of the Primitives but stylized.

I'd like to think Hasbro got it wrong with Cutthroat as a leg.

To me, if there are members of a combiner team that fly, they are automatically arms, since they can fly up to combine, while their ground-based teammates form the legs.

Look at Bruticus, Defensor, Computron, PredaKing. They all follow that rule.

If I had to choose between common sense and G1 accuracy, then common sense prevails.

into 2 Pieces, taking out the Light Piping
and then use this to Paint the Face with a Silver Acryl Pen.

 

Which is exactly why it makes sense that he’s a leg. Computron is the epitome of logic and order, while Abominus represents chaos. They’re opposites, and a winged member being a leg for this particular team, is most likely intentional. They can’t even combine logically!lol

Hmm. The entire idea that they should be scramblers seems lost in this leg/arm debate. If they were, any one could be both and satisfy all.

 

Exactly. Making them all scramble-able makes everyone happy. But----if you are going to force a single arrangement on people, it really should be the original, main one he that he was ALWAYS depicted with for the first 25 years, and not "the one time on that one page".

 

I can't argue this but we threw conventional out the window with unnecessary horns on heads above shoulders and saw blade snouts.

And crotch fangs.

 

Nah, Cutthroat being an arm is just so much more visually interesting & exciting than Blot. That one page may just be one page but it’s the single most impressive shot of Abominus that’s resonated that hard clearly.

 

Very creative use of everyday items for the background props! Gives me an "Under the sea" vibe.
