Great news, but yeah, not sure this can work with Bowie gone. Unless they add some new villain. The actress playing Sarah still looks great today, so maybe it can be her daughter being stolen this time, which prompts her to enter the labyrinth again. Jennifer Connelly - Wikipedia The Dark Crystal show was good, as I heard (I did not watch, never seen the original either) - so at least that means the production is in good hands, puppet-wise. That comic above looks more like a manga... ugh no thanks. Labyrinth should not be manga/anime style, ever.
I’m not sure how they can do this & please fans. - new villain? - cgi face over an actor for Bowie? - Jareth is a shapeshifter & can have a completely different look/actor? Whichever way they do it, is it going to be something fans want? New audiences might go for it, but not sure old fans will be onboard.
My guess they will go the son or daughter of the goblin king road. Also goblin king was in the form of a actor sara liked (as you see in her bedroom at the films start) to trick her so he can just change his looks to anyone if he wants. Not going to lie. Surprised this is not a remake over a part 2.
hmm. I wonder who's kid they're going to steal for the plot this time? Why? More importantly ... How? The Crystal was reformed and the urSkeks have left the planet. What would be the plot? Gelflings Gone Wild?
Huh. I seen the movie many times but I never saw that. So Bowie shows up on a poster first before Sarah meets him? This implies that he took that shape out of her memory... I always wondered why he is called the Goblin King, when he is... well, not very Goblin-like, more like some Archfey or Faerie Court member.
Most of the movie is in her bedroom. The book the movie is based on, a labyrinth board game, where the wild things are book bruno is based on, and stuff toy of the dog among others. Goblin king took these things to make his labyrinth.
I think the Dark Crystal show is a bit of 'How we got here' for the movie. Anyway I was pondering this notion of Labyrinth's sequel. And for some utterly mad, mad reason I thought a neat idea would be Goblin Queen played by Lady Gaga has taken over. In this scenario the protagonist would most likely be Sarah's own child/children. Now thankfully characters like Hoggle, Ludo, Didymus et al are ageless/immortal so they don't need to change a bit. Likewise the visual design has this wonderfully timeless grunge about it. Though I won't lie using modern effects to get even better mileage out of that giant axe wielding motherfucker from the Gates of the Goblin City in the original would be my jam and toast and no mistake. The issue with my idea - or any idea - is what is the central conflict meant to be? Sarah's whole arc in the movie is basically growing up and realising that family is worth more than material possessions. But also that those material possessions can be shared with people you love to extend the joy they bring to the world. And that while its good to manage on your own, a child like sense of wonder and whimsy isn't a bad thing to have in the right circumstances. So, where the hell do you go from that with a sequel?
You can perhaps have the new protagonists have problems that are different but still carry the same message. Like for example the new protagonist could perhaps be more of the hard worker type, not having enough time for things like friends, family or even just a bit of a fun time off because he/she feels like that spending time on things that don't help you in the career world is a waste of time. Thus, leaving Jareth using that to his advantage. Like I said it's still carrying the same message of family and spreading joy to others.
