Yeah I'm a huge space geek and this is awesome if they do launch. I wish I was old enough to see the Saturn V launch. Bummer, scrub. Oh well.
Till we have Valkryies, this is the closest we can get. Glad to hear that the younger generations are still excited for space. I lived close* enough to a rocket test area where they would fire the rockets for testing and you can feel the thundering when they fired it off. *Close is relatively in the same county. Those rockets were that powerful and loud.
Good news: Both NY and HLJ replied to my inquiry and said they had extra replacement legs for the SV51! I got a set from NY, but due to shipping issue I had to pay $40 for ups. They offered a cheaper ferry service which would take forever. The legs themselves were no cost hlj was slow responding so I went with ny
So I've been poking around this VF-17S a bit more. I noticed two other small cracks, same type as on the wrist, on the "double joint" in the elbow, one in each elbow. I wasn't sure why this joint was even there but then I remembered the 17 has that weird Gerwalk mode option where the arms are backwards so the cannons are facing out. I used a bit of kraggle to seal the cracks. This figure has grown on me over a couple days. It's oddly proportioned and a bit weird looking in battroid, but I keep thinking about how the F-117 Nighthawk, which was partial inspiration for the VF-17, was nicknamed "the wobbly goblin". Looking at the 17's Battroid mode I would definitely call it the Wobbly Goblin of Macross. I know the "scale" is off too, but I think about it like: if the fighter modes are roughly in scale with each other, then forget about the line art - the Battroid mode of the toy is "correct" because it actually transforms, instead of using anime magic (or "mass shifting" in Transformers parlance). There's also a lot of detail molded on this figure but it's hard to see unless you're right up on it (very stealthy, that). I'm thinking of taking a light grey panel lining pen to it to bring some of that out. I already had to glue it so what's a little paint, eh?
Saw this posted on Facebook earlier, early Takatoku ad with 1 of their 1/55 VF-1S prototypes. The head sculpt looks more accurate aside from the short head lasers I think that's referred to as "hi-speed" gerwalk mode where as the arms down down configuration is the emergency mode. It might look weird with arms up and elbows facing forward but given that the elbows have beam cannons, it's quite powerful, especially in the PSP games. I don't think the true strength of the VF-17 was ever shown in the anime but in the games it's a beast. Do you have pics of the elbow cracks?
@Shin Densetsu I’ll try to get some clear ones in a bit. I don’t have a very good camera but they were all easily visible, hopefully they’ll show up.
Hey guys so I recently just got my Revoltech YF-21 and the right shoulder is super tight or jammed up and won't budge. Any tips on what I can do to loose it up?
@Tasuke love how that looks with the decals on it. @Shin Densetsu pictures attached. It's the VF-17 left wrist bottom, and left double elbow joint bottom inside. Then right double elbow joint top inside. Having poked at it a bit more I have a feeling this was not kept in a humidity controlled environment. Or if it was, that all went straight out the window when it got stuck in shipping limbo for 3 months. I noticed even the staples on the instruction booklet are rusty, which is far from typical.
Was afraid someone was gonna say "Shock oil" lol bc I don't have any. Do you know if silicone grease will work fine? Thx
It might since shock oil is made from silicone. If it's a revolver joint peg that's stuck, the part it's plugged into is made from PVC most likely and the joint might be paint locked. You can put it in the freezer for a few minutes and see if it frees. Or you can dip the joint in hot water for a just few seconds or use a hair dryer to for a few seconds to very slowly/carefully work the joint loose. If it's a PVC peg plugging into a PVC socket, it might be fused...if so, you'll have to be even more careful.
@Shin Densetsu Yea looks like the Revoltech joint is stuck onto the body. The other side came out with the joint while this one is being stubborn. Slightly bummed out but at least I know to stay clear of the Revoltech Macross line. I recall @Slave IV mentioning the build on these were questionable.
The revolver joint is hard plastic while the shoulder socket there is soft plastic. Safest way might be to stick the figure in a freezer for a few minutes, then try to slowly work the joint free afterwords to break the paint seal.
Did it come with extra joints? The good thing is I think most the Revo joints are interchangeable so if you can get it out, even if it breaks, you should be able to fix it easily.
You can try thinning the grease with some lighter fluid (Zippo, Ronsonol, etc.) so it seeps into the joint better. Lighter fluid is typically harmless to plastics and paint, but I would test an inconspicuous area of the figure first (put a little fluid on a cotton swab and rub it on a couple hidden bare plastic and painted spots of the figure...if you get plastic or paint color on the swab, then stop).
@Shin Densetsu Good news: It loosen it,Bad News that Revoltech Joint is in there and won't come out. In order to use that joint looks like I'm gonna have to "Push in the shoulder" to rotate it around. @Slave IV No extra joints unfortunately. TBH guys these feel really lackluster and are small. I knew this previously but still decided to roll the dice and give them a try. (I also got the YF19 also and after the YF-21 I really don't wanna mess with that. My Yamato DNU 19/21 even though aren't as poseable are built way better than these IMO.) @fschuler Thanks for the tip. Might look into that.
I haven't checked but I'm sure you can get extra joints somewhere. Most new Revo figures come with a few extras.
Thanks.... ouch... I don't recall seeing that on mine, it's possible that the screw was screwed in too far in and broke the joint. FWIW the GNU do figures by Yamato were made somewhat as a hard plastic rival to the soft plastic Revoltech Macross figures.
