Personally I don't understand people who apparently keep their figures' backs pressed up against the wall all the time and then only view them from a specific spot directly in front of them.

As I once said in another thread, these figures are 3 dimensional objects with lots of posing options. Why should we be expected to perpetually keep our figures in an A stance with their backs against a wall?

I get what your saying about them being a 3D object. What I'm saying is if they have to compromise the back to get the rest of the figure to look good im OK with that. (mp36) Yes in a perfect world it would look amazing from all angles, have all the articulation, and still transform in a fun intuitive way.

I for one think MP44 pretty much accomplished this task. Then what do people complain about? The price! Because all the engineering and parts count drive the cost up. Then you pay close to slave wages to have some one assemble it in a factory. The factory workers are not engineers so some of the crazy complex figures don't get put together right and the $400 toy breaks when some people heavy hand it.

I think they should just make super articulated figures and forget the transformation. Put another accessory in the box of said figure in their alt mode. Then you have everything you want. But then people would bitch that it doesn't transform or the price of the two toys is too high. Like Hot Toys. I had an Iron Man mark6 die cast from Hot Toys but sold it. I thought my MP44 which was the same price gave me much more value for my dollar.

Stop bitching so much about your toys. Stop collecting and go do something else. Spend your money collecting ceramic cats or something.

always liked my Transformers to look like something out of reality instead of a blob that kinda sorta looks like a vehicle. if that means there is a bit more kibble then so be it. would be more accepting of v2 Bumblebee if they had made it out of a real VW instead of the chibi crap, then to have chibi crap plus a shit load of panels hanging off it just killed it (not in a good way) for me. but, it's nice most people can get what they want. don't understand why some people find it necessary to go onto a competing products page just to say they like the other one, and then have to give bulletpoints as to why their choice is "superior". it's almost like they are trying to convince themselves they made the right choice.

That's partly my fault. Someone else had made a comment about a flaw in the FT version and I showed comparison pics of alt mode and indicated my preference for Arkose while being unkind to FT's, which provoked the dissenting opinions from those who appreciate FT's version.

If the 'bot in question has a real world alt mode, I expect it to be as close to the vehicle in question as possible. I thought that was the whole point of MP figures? You know, a cartoon/artwork accurate 'bot mode and a vehicle accurate alt mode. I had Beachcomber as a kid, and while I remember the figure fondly, it was still a cheap looking thing that only kinda resembled what it was supposed to be, and the cartoon wasn't much better. Part of the enjoyment for me is seeing these characters realized properly after all this time, and I can't help but see FT's offering as a step backwards.

To each their own, I suppose.

I guess whether or not a giant backpack looks "amazing" is subjective, but it's definitely not what I'm looking for when I'm trying to represent this guy.

I'd agree that complaining is basically just screaming into the wind if we were just talking about Hastak, but when dealing with 3rd parties I think fan reaction has a far more important influence. Why shouldn't we loudly proclaim our opinions about what kinds of figures we're willing to spend hundreds of dollars on and what kinds we aren't?

I have no issue with people saying what they like and don't, it's the reason for these forums, what annoys the fuck out of me is when fans of one toy design/company goes onto other pages just to spout their "opinion" and try to tell others they are stupid if you don't think the way they do. almost all figures have a page, if you want to wax poetically about the virtues of your choice, go to that figures page to do it. to go onto a competing products page weekly (daily in some people's case) just to spew that your choice is better than other people's choice and disparage those who have made a different choice is tiring and reeks of desperation to validate their opinion.

Not sure why that reply was directed at me, since the scenario you're talking about is unrelated to my post and the one's leading up to it.

I grabbed this screenshot from Benscollectables review. Understandably, not many people like to show the back:

    xtb_beachcomber.jpg

Everyone has different criteria what is acceptable. This crossed the line for me, that's all.

But we must not be too harsh on Arkose. It is from 2015, a different era. :)

different people want different things. We all want as much as we can in every figure and are always chasing the perfect figure even if that doesn't exist. Some prioritize a clean back because that's their personal taste. Some want a waist swivel. Some want double jointed elbows. My biggest pet peeve is figures that can't touch their palms together in front of their chest, and that is the majority of MP and 3rd party figures. Regardless, I look at my shelf and think about the endless smile that 9 year old me would have had in 1985 if he would have had any of these figures as they are and I smile as well because that 9 year old kid is still inside me.

The upcoming Fanstoys version will have a clean back. Comparing figures that release 5 years apart is not fair.

Seeing the painted shots of FT Beachcomber actually mad be jump on the most recent release of this figure. I just prefer the more real world sculpt.

I initially picked the G2 repaint thinking I would be going FT for the original colors. Now both of them will be from XTransbots.

Looking at past posts, I believe it was first released in Jan/Feb 2016.

v2 was released last year, so it is fair to compare to upcoming figures. :p

So I just bought this guy, but a pre-order for FT's opened up on BBTS and I grabbed that as well...for now. Debating if I really want the FT version... FT's looks a little better in bot mode, but I think XTB isn't far behind other than his back, which meh, I'm not going to display him backwards. This guy is better in alt mode. FT's would win toon accurate if the colors were correct, but his whole back being white is wrong and doesn't look good at all. So neither are toon accurate...may as well go with the better looking buggy...and that's strengthened by the fact you can't symbol these guys up in alt mode without messing up bot mode, so even more reason to just go realistic alt mode. And this guy is like $30 cheaper to boot...

What does metal version mean, though? I assumed metallic finish, but pics look pretty normal from what I can tell.

Anyhow, looking for thoughts on the latest version of this guy (or this guy in general)...if I should cancel the FT version? I can't really ask that question in the FT thread as the FT faithful aren't exactly the most objective bunch... And I don't know if this guy will show up before FT's comes in stock.

I wouldn't sleep on the FT version. You know how they dry up and we know how it goes after that.
I have the XTB version but there's no way I'm missing out on the FT version.

Yeah, I guess Beachcomer isn't that important to me. I was going to skip him and the rest of the s2 minibots altogether until I got the KO of Powerglide, ordered Sheridan on a whim (even though I already had the Bad Chug offering)...then realized I only needed 3 more to complete them. So this guy, Cosmos, and Seaspray are on the way. I could easily sell the FT version and get my money back, I'm sure...but that's a pain in the ass. If XTB's is solid, I'd probably be content. My biggest question is what the metal ver. is?
