I would like to see a Collection style hardcover collecting their previous BW stuff too.

 

While I love Beast Wars, I’m worried....

Unlike G1, people consider (and rightly so) the BW cartoon as THE BW canon. Other than the original toy bios and a handful of other fiction, that’s it. So anything new will have to contend with that.

So it’ll either be..

New BW continuity (a retelling of the BW story... not gonna happen unless they want to alienate the fanbase)

“Untold Tales” (likely but it also means that the status quo will always remain the same AND it’ll be hard to attract new readers who’ve never seen the show)

Use characters that weren’t in the BW show (this is what was done before and it didn’t work out so great. I still don’t care about Razorbeast or anyone who showed up. I did like the profiles books though, and it was fun to help out with the trade)

Out of the three, the “untold tales” is most likely and could still use characters not in the show as long as they’re gone at some point. I think it could be a continuity disaster if they don’t get someone like Ben Yee to serve as a consultant to preserve continuity.

 

I don't think they have to stick to the show, and they can new something new with the Beast Wars characters that's different then the cartoon, I think it would be neat if the characters were from Eukaris or if the comic took place there.

 

Great news! I just hope it's the Beast Wars we know and love and not some Barber'd version of it.

I wonder if this means they know which way Hasbro are going with the next film, Beast Wars instead of the Bumblebe-equel? Or if IDW are just reacting to fan buzz around the idea of the film? Could even be they're doing the Bumblebee film and this is for the fans who wants more Beast Wars.

 

While it's nice that apparently Beast Wars is getting a new comic... I'm gonna wait to see more before celebrating.

It's IDW, chances are they'll find some way to mess it up and hamstring themselves. They'll give it to some no-talents or something.

Then again, whether or not IDW has much of a future is another story.  

 

I misread this as a new (animated) Beast Wars series and got excited.

I just don't give a damn about the comics :/

I know what I don't want to see: Beast Wars on modern earth. There is no way that ain't gonna suck.
And I hope a new continuity won't alienate fans. I hope BW fans are more interested in seeing a great story than they are in being geewun.

If you want something that will be as awesome as the original cartoon was you're gonna have to give the people working on it the room to be actually creative.
You can't have a good story by being afraid to upset gatekeepers.

 

Alright! Hopefully they can get Bob Forward or maybe Ben Yee involved.

 

This is a great opportunity to get some new creative energy into Beast Wars. IDW's G1 comics introduced several new characters that have become fan favorites, and influenced the toyline besides. I'd love to see it happen again.

 

The transcript doesn't do him justice. I'd recommend still watching the clip. I get the impression he is actually looking forward to it.

 

Hate to be a partypooper but IDW is hemorrhaging BIGLY financially. In TF analogy to quote Perceptor....." I fear the wounds are fatal..........."

The entire industry is experiencing an "Extinction level Event" Humpty Dumpty falling off the wall (beerbug and Diamond's clusterfk not withstanding and all the inherent issues plaguing the industry) and all the king's horses.........

Don't take my word for it, just search. As much as I am a recent BeastWars convert (not the trippy Beastmachines season though), don't put too much hope just yet. It might disappoint y'all. IDW can't sustain their business model. Not the DW Pat Lee clusterfk but more of they took on more than they could chew (if they just focused on comics and other hot button issues which further aggravated their finances.

I wonder if Hb could just support the TF comics themselves?

 

All the more reason to buy it when it hits shelves. Support IDW. Support the industry. Support your LCS.

 

I did watch the fragment about Beast Wars. Maybe he is looking forward to it. But I think you'd have better things to comment on if you get to announce a Beast Was comic series.

 

As he said: I know more details about it. I know a little bit more about it than that. But we're not ready to tell anything.

Obviously a big, proper announcement will be coming in due course. He can't spill all the beans at present.

Alright, thoughts.

So let's assume this comic is happening and that we are going to be able to get it out there and IDW doesn't fall before then.

First off, I want Dark Glass. I feel like there is a really big plot hole in the show regarding Dinobot's fate in the finale, and I would love to see that hole filled. This would be a great way to do it. I'd be okay with a few retcons, and it could be a really great story that would never be done in our old universe in a movie or a new TV series. A comic is a perfect formant for it.

I also think there is potential for alernate timeline stories. There was a massive temporal event at the end of season 2. That event could have very easily split up the continuity into a bunch of timelines. In theory, the comic could give us a completely different season 3 in one of those alternate timelines. I think because of the nature of the event, split timelines is something that would make sense and be accepted by a lot of the fandom.

Edit for the sake of expanding: Like, holy shit guys, what about a comic series on Beast Wars in the world Prime was actually killed in the Arc and Primal wasn't able to save him. The great wars went very differently, Decepticons won the war. Alternate timeline universe, maximals are slaves. The death of Prime is a mystery, but a group of slaves (the axalon crew) discover a golden disc that contains the truth of what happened (Beast Wars Megatron couldn't help but leave evidence of his great victory).

Alternate timeline Megatron knows of his main timeline victory because main timeline Megatron left a message for him specifically, so he goes out of his way to cover up the truth and sends men to kill the axalon crew prevent the timeline from reverting. Damn, that could be sooooo good!

Outside of this, I would be totally okay with a complete reinterpretation of the story. Transformers has been done so many times now, G1, Unicron Trilogy, Animated, Prime, etc etc.

Some of those were pretty good. I am ready for Beast Wars to get the same treatment.

 

I supported DW and look what happened? A lot of storylines left hanging. The LCS though, I feel it is really grim if they keep on getting stuck with unsellable stock.
