Used the Molotow chrome marker yesterday. It's super shinny but really hard to get good finish for large surface though.
A lot of metallic paints won’t coat evenly on a surface without some kind of primer first. Did you just try putting it directly on the plastic? min my experience if I don’t feel like priming with a light gray, I usually have to do 2 or 3 passes with a metallic paint to get it to look right, but then it ends up too thick sometimes.
Well, looks like I spent a bit mucho more than I meant this month (damn you 14-piece Wild About Safety pin set) and I want the MMC Decepticon Justice Division...so I'm not going to be grabbing the Dictus, Night Seeker, and Polypod. I mean, I've got a backlog and multiple kits on order anyway so I probably need to get back to THAT backlog which I've neglected in favor of the Ambroid.
For smooth, metallic finishes, most modellers I've seen prefer a base coat of gloss black. Standard grey primer es no bueno because that clean, matte look is a result of the surface being microscopically rough and porous, so that the follow-up paint has something to grip to. For a metallic, mirror finish though, you don't want any texture at all.
Made some changes to the GN Sword V, wanted it to appear more as a beam rifle. Rearranged the dingies and added a couple dealies. Ordered up a Gundam Decal no.07 so my kit will have proper offical Titan markings.
Put some serious hours this weekend into decals and topcoat. I should be completely done by Wednesday at the latest. This is probably the most complex kit ive assembled to date but im really liking how its turning out.
Anybody ever use any Metal Etched parts? They seem pricey, just wondering if they are worth it, and add that much to the kits.
Just finished my HG AGE-2 Double Bullet; I applied some leftover clear RG decals that I have lying around on it to add some detailing: Side by side with my HG AGE-2 Normal: Having both of these kits in-hand; I'm gonna said among the two, the Double Bullet is more fun to pose and play around with. I still like the AGE-2 Normal, but I'll admit that the wing binders on the AGE-2 Normal's shoulders gets in the way of the shoulder's articulation quite a bit with posing, and no matter how the wings are positioned they will always blocks some range of motion. The Double Bullet however, didn't have that problem since the DODS cannons on the shoulders aren't as intrusive, and there's just enough joints to allow the giant cannons to move out of the way for posing. (The fact that the DODS guns can be removed for dual-wielding guns action also helps a bit) Both of them are still good kits on their own merits however, and I highly recommend them.
Aside from a couple of Porsche kits, I've only started using them on the PG GP01. It's a dated kit by modern detailing standards and I was using them on what were originally circles on the face of the shield. For how small they are, it makes a modest difference.
Posing my HG AGE-2 Double Bullet for a bit.... I love the fact that an Action base is actually included in this kit; The base by itself is a bit on the basic side, but I do appreciate that the extra hands and the parts-forming hip block for the MA mode can be stored on the base itself... My attempt of recreating the AGE-2 Double Bullet's iconic pose from Gundam AGE's 2nd opening, just with this kit.... I really, really love this kit (Maybe a bit too much, and consider how much I bring up AGE in this thread I'm suprised that @Dr Kain didn't comment about his disdain for AGE in this thread yet (As well as possibly questioning my preferences)....
Those look REALLY good!! Suppose we'll see some more come Friday for the Next Phase GUNPLA! DAY!! Today's announcements were Kamen Rider Figure-Rise.
As much I feel that the writing/story of AGE was poor and over-ambitious for what it was, we DID get some really cool MS designs from it. I wasn't crazy at first about the AGE-1, but it eventually grew on me quite well. The AGE-2 and upgrades have always been amazing, as were the AGE-3 variations and even the AGE-FX. It's all about looking at the silver lining. Not limited to AGE per se, but I've always felt that you can love the mech design (and buy and enjoy the kits) without necessarily loving the associated fiction.
Welcome to my world.. where the Astray and Striker Pack system is the best thing to come out of the Cosmic Era. I had my difficulty getting into AGE but the Mobile Suit concepts were good. I'm looking forward to the Tri-Age (Magnum), it's the nice combination of EVERY AGE Gundam.
About the "Love the mechas, but not the series" thing, that's basically me with Gundam Wing. I do love the various OZ grunt suits, and despite some of the aspects been overdesigned a few of the "Wing Boys" Gundams are also incredibly cool-looking; Both the mecha designs and the music are probably the best aspects of WIng. However for someone who never has any childhood nostalgia towards the series, I find Gundam Wing to be a convoluted, bizarrely written anime where thing only happens because they look cool, and watching it in current times the show pretty much feels like a product from the 1990's where things just happens because they look "cool"; in the same way as those G2 Transformers commercials with all of the rapping, explosions and loud noises:
Found these at Walmart, and I’m kinda strapped for options for sprue cutters, as I’ve checked everywhere else. Would these work for my pen pal’s Gunpla?
Those look like decent double-blade cutters. Best to test them yourself before you send them to her, and if they're not good enough you'll at least have yourself a decent pair of wire cutters. Otherwise, the best cheap alternative are Xuron nippers.
decals and sanding nub marks later. not a fan of how you need to disassemble part of the legs in order to expose the psychoframe.
