After hearing about the writers room, the promise of a backstory for Optimus Prime and Megatron, the cybertronian knights, Megatron's awesome design, the start of a cinematic universe and the Transformers lore being explored and explained I actually thought that The Last Knight had potential to finally be a good Transformers movie, but unfortunately for us, we were robbed of all of those promises and because of that the film under-performed. So who else here thought that Transformers: The Last Knight actually had potential to be good?

 

I have low expectations for the movies so no
I think people were too hyped and watch those youtubers to get hyped and they had high expectations then they passed it to their audience
I still love the movie

It had the potential until all the things we were told during production that would happen in the film turned out to be lies.

Like? I tried to avoid watching any filming sets because i want to be surprised when i see what the movie because ive been spoiled multiple times when i see the sets and their props

 

I remember that being said, but I can't remember if that was something that was legitimately leaked or a rumor us fans came up with in trying to justify the rushed pacing and lack of what was promised.

The revelation that Optimus was the one responsible for Cybertron's fall and how he would deal with the revelation.
Optimus before the war, as a librarian, and Megatron as a gladiator.
Dinobots playing a bigger role
The Knightship being important for future films, albeit those last two parts were mentioned right after AoE came out.

If it wasn't dropped from the film, it was passingly dropped in dialogue without further elaboration and forgotten about before they switched to the next scene.

 

I don't know about that but I heard that Paramount didn't want the film to be too long

 

I definitely think it had the potential to be the best of the Transformers movies, but I think it needed to act as a sequel rather than a cinematic universe springboard.

Here's the thing. The concepts and characters from AoE were actually a solid base for a Transformers 5. Galvatron vowed another meeting between him and Prime. Prime left Earth for the Creators. Dinobots let loose on Earth. The Autobots were watching the Yeagers. That's quite the teaser for a future movie. All you really needed for a Transformers 5 was a continuation of those things: Creators, Galvatron, Dinobots. You didn't need Unicron being Earth and Witwiccans and so on.

That's not to say some things in The Last Knight weren't logical progressions from AoE, even if there are way too many unexplained changes in between the films, like Knight Megatron and Quintessa. Nemesis Prime, for instance, is a logical continuation from the previous movie. That goes with the Creators wanting to capture Optimus and building the Transformers to do as they were told. However, Nemesis Prime should have been the focus and the main conflict rather than Cybertron coming to Earth under the bad guys' whims AGAIN. Nemesis Prime was something we hadn't seen before, and was the more interesting of the two as a result.

So yeah, I think a Transformers 5 that acted as a sequel and was more focused definitely had the potential to be the best of the Bayverse.

 

Yeah, all that potential would've been good but instead, it all got flushed down the toilet

Ah, reminds me of the countless threads that were created talking about this so called "40" minutes of cut footage.
That was just fake information spread by people on Instagram—namely AlfonsoNation: Instagram Post. There had been absolutely no basis for that information besides that post with a Photoshopped cover art of TLK.

This all probably stems from when a critic was able to see a preview TLK where he stated the 15 minutes of the movie he saw felt like a 3 and half hour movie. People took that as face value and thought that meant the original film was that long.

 

This is why i stopped watching transformers youtubers, i remember watching a video saying that aoe was going to have the stunticons and menasor and that rusty truck was ultra magnus or grimlock
Was heavily dissapointed in toy fair when they revealed it was just galvatron and evasion prime
Ever since then ive been having trust issues with tf movie youtube, i facepalm when people said that shatter was dead end or knockout back when the car was revealed in 2017

 

I certainly thought it had potential. I was sort of hopeful based on the trailers. I've said it before, but I feel like TLK should have been done by someone besides Bay. It's clear that he was getting burned out on the series, and didn't really want to do them anymore. TLK was supposed to be the start of the Cinematic Universe, and it really called for a fresh start and a palate cleanser. They probably should have followed the Force Awakens approach. Technically a sequel, but a reboot for all intents and purposes. At first, that's what TLK seemed to be. But in the end, it was essentially just more of the same.

I honestly dont know why people have high expectations after 4 movies, you knew what you were getting into its the same people behind them
If a youtuber makes you have high expectations then you have no one to blame but yourself

 

Well to be honest, I was one of those people that was hyped

 

Yeah and I have to be honest with you, the only saving grace about TLK was Megatron's design

 

I was hyped for it too but i actively avoided youtube and the boards for bumblebee and tlk
