That’s because Adam and Daisy actually had chemistry. Christian and Natalie didn’t. Cause she’s too good to be in SW and acts like she’s sluming it, and he’s a doorknob. People like “Reylo” because lots of people think Adam Driver is “hot.” It is what it is.

No, that has literally nothing to do with it. His point is that comparing Anakin and Padme to Reylo is stupid because Anakin and Padme's relationship as of ROTS was depicted as unhealthy and wrong. He literally choked her out and, as far as he knew, killed her. It was a very cut and dry "this is bad and tragic and ends horribly." That's nothing like the bullshit with Reylo where the movie portrays it as somehow being not a horrid, unhealthy thing, and that they actually have some kind of connection by the end that we're not supposed to recoil at.

Also, Adam and Daisy had zero chemistry. They were both entirely flat whenever they interacted.

Sure, sure Adam Driver has nothing to do with people liking Reylo. And the movie never portrays it as “healthy.” Rey doesn’t give up on Ben and Luke doesn’t give up on Anakin. It’s all so incredibly, incredibly different. I love when you guys try this hard.

So I guess some people still think this scene was meant as an insult, when it nothing but a genuine (and accurate) throwback to the original show.
Some specifically thought it was an insult to Larry DiTillio, who had passed away around when this set of episodes released. Never mind that the episodes are produced months in advance before they're even close to airing, so they could not have been insulting DiTillio's passing or any of the original creators with this scene, and certainly not mocking the original show or it's fans.

Take it up with the production companies terrified of losing chick fil a as a sponsor or whatever.

"Gals just bein pals" is a cute lesbian trope but I reckon Stevenson of all people tried their best to get queer content past the censors.

And honestly, DreamWorks isn't even THAT restrictive about it. She did mention there was a pushback during production, but by the time season one aired and they were writing the final season, she managed to use the positive reaction towards it to get the suits to allow it. Many of their cartoons also have same-gender relationships, though this was the second time it was done with protagonists.

There was a really scathing article earlier in the year about DreamWorks "baiting" audiences and that included this show. It got taken down recently because this finale proved it was 100% BS, and I'm glad Stevenson was vindicated. Best of all, that article came up on the same week Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts premiered, the FIRST DW cartoon with a gay main character.

Absolutely. Nietzsche has this great perspective on the ancients where he says something to the effect of “they lived closer to the edge.” (not a quote) Meaning closer to the edge of being civilized or civilization. When you hold that concept in your mind while thinking about the ancient world it’s sort of transformative and puts it all in context.

One major thing I love about Season 5 is how it deconstructs the Chronic Hero Syndrome trope.

Adora is a fundamentally good person, we know this from the beginning. The minute she learns the truth of what is outside the Fright Zone, and sees the people out there, and what the Horde is really doing, what she was raised to do, she's horrified and resolves to take a stand against it. Time and time again, she shows the tendency to place the well being of others before herself, sometimes even to her own detriment. In most circumstances this altruistic behavior would be seen as heroic - see also, Superman, a paragon of altruism who is a hero simply because it's the right thing to do. But Season 5 comes along and makes it clear that, while she's definitely heroic, these tendencies of hers are self-destructive. She never considers what she wants or even fighting for herself, and this lends to often senseless willingness to sacrifice herself for the perceived greater good. She was willing to trap herself in between dimensions to close the portal and save Etheria, until Angella made that sacrifice for her. And then, after destroying the sword to shut down the Heart, she keeps throwing herself into battles without thinking, trying desperately to still be useful.

This all culminates in her willingness to die in order to destroy the Heart once and for all, willing to be remembered as a hero for it and give the people of Etheria the power to fight off Horde Prime through doing so. Cue Catra's desperation to keep Adora from making this sacrifice, and then deciding to stand by Adora to the end, even if it means going together - and Mara's words to Adora in her vision. "You are worth more than what you can give to others. You deserve love too." It's a brilliant bit of writing that puts Adora's entire character in a new light, and I love everything about her arc.

Best part was how the show didn't even make a big fuss about it. Just comes right out and says it, in a scene that's supposed to be awkward, but is entirely genuine in it's delivery. Kipo is also a fun show and I wish there was more discussion on it.

The main issue I had with this is

    1) the show runner, social media staff, and Bo's voice actor openly mocked and insulted fans of the original and past voice actors

    2) Larry's passing was never acknowledged by the crew outside of Marketing/Social media useing it to promote the season.

With this context the scene was clearly to mock fans of the original.

While I won't condone mocking their fellow professionals - that's just discourteous - I can't help but feel after reflecting on some of the less than admirable shit I said and wrote RE: most Transformers media between 2007 and 2015 that just maybe, OG fans of clearly kids aimed shows need to be told to get the fuck over themselves by the creative team of the current project, and to fuck off and watch something else if they don't like this. Like it shouldn't have had to come to this but fanbases have a proven record of minority splinters within them being nothing but shit stirring pains in the arse and social media amplifies their verbal buggery to utterly appalling volumes. Hell if I were a studio head, I would make it a contractual obligation for my creative teams and voice actors to never, under any circumstances, engage with fans over Facebook/Twitter etc. Like we're talking firing offence.

I find that interesting, since it is often the so-called professionals who are the ones stirring up the drama with their hot takes on social media. When people don't immediately accept this as the greatest published work since The Origin of Species, they lose their minds. Rian Johnson purged ten thousand tweets of him shit talking fans, often over mild criticism. Since it is becoming more and more obvious that controversy doesn't, in fact, sell, maybe they should just stay off social media altogether unless it is in between projects.

Considering the attitudes of some fans, I’m shocked it wasn’t higher than ten thousand.

This would probably save a lot of trouble. Like just in general, "don't engage directly with fans on social media" seems like it'd be basic common sense. Even if you're only trying to call out the toxic minority (as I am largely convinced these claims of mockery were actually directed toward), most people aren't going to see it that way. Been burned too many times by other, very unprofessional behaviors from others to be willing to make a distinction, I think.

It’s 100% the toxic minority. They are actively looking to be offended and when you walk into the conversation hating the other side and looking to be offended....You’re gonna find it or create it. I have my issues with the way this show worked out but being offended by it or it’s creators is a bunch of bullshit.
