See I like this art of Ironhide. It looks like it was drawn to emulate something that is actually alive. The Devy artwork almost looks like they took a real photo of the G1 toy and ran it through an animation filter. Its stiff, boxy, and has all the atributes of a toy all the way down to cost cutting procedures and 80's engineering. Im not knocking the artist at all. He is extremely talented. I just dont like my artwork looking like the movie toy story.

Absolutely spectacular. Can we just crowdfund him to do a new piece of G1 "box art" every month and release it hi-res for all?

I don't even like G1 toys and I think this would be awesome.

It's hard to believe "kids" would spend $30-50 on one toy today. Yes, Hasbro talks about kids, but for Generations releases (i e. Earthrise), with characters not in any recent animation, it's safe to assume it's for older fans.

Why not offer this art on the packaging? Hasbro is already doing just that with Retro Marvel Legends releases that mirror the 90s packaging and art style.

Nostalgia is a powerful sales tool, even if some of you are too young or prefer other art.

I must say, he really has an amazing ability to make something look simultaneously fantastic and amazingly ugly. His art is technically amazing, but I don't think I'll ever be able to consider it not a little ugly. :D

That's the spot you could put the pistol on the toy, too.

Glad to see that he’s still working, but that chest plate on Devastator is driving me nuts.

Absolutely amazing!! I love his stuff - eerie and stiff and super dynamic at the same time. And I love seeing the process behind it.

Does he even know the original History Diaclone Japanese toys that were made by Takara and ported over by Hasbro to create "The Transformers"?
Says on his website that states that he saw the original prototype G1 stuff in the early 80s and thay they sold well in China. Lmao.

Lemme just preface this by saying I don't think wanting this art is wrong, dumb, or bad or anything, I just see why Hasbro doesn't do it.

I'm going by what Hasbro tells us, if you wanna discuss their numbers and honesty and whatnot, okay, but we don't have anything concrete to argue that their demographic breakdown is wrong.

Nostalgia's a big seller, but It doesn't make a niche audience any bigger though. How many people are going to buy Hoist more than once because of boxart? No one. The reason that boxart is necessary in the first place is to get kids to buy characters they've never heard of by making them look cool, but not only have aesthetic tastes changed over the almost 40 years since G1 started, but the entire reason they don't use art like this is that they don't have to. They already the adult collector market for life "Here's your new Scorponok adults come eat it up! But for kids we have to actually sell them on him." That's why Unicron barely even has boxart by the time you get to the problem of the box being ugly they already made twelve million dollars.

Wish he was doing the Earthrise package art.  This really takes you back.

Just like Picasso, it takes a lot of talent to deliberately make a picture look so bad.

Awesome and that's actually the "Transformers feeling". He should work officially as before again.

Art is between other things, highly subjective, this style was very significant for us who grew up with G1.

As a G1 boxart fan, this is AMAZING and nostalgic.

But it wouldn’t be reminiscent of G1 boxart without weird stuff going on, like no Scavenger shovel, and Bonecrusher’s gun on Devastator’s chest (something the Hook toy was designed to do for vehicle mode, but I’ve NEVER seen anyone put a gun there in combined mode).

The old back-of-box art had stuff like:
1984: multiples of characters like Megatron, a very strange robot-mode Trailbreaker
1985: red Tracks and Beetras-colored Deluxe Insecticons
1986: prototype Broadside, Metroplex’s head sticking up in city mode, Divebomb using his animal head for his robot mode

    It’s nothing new :D
I enjoy it for looking just like the old art. I just wish we knew which artist did which G1 boxart; I know even Jim Sorensen couldn’t find out for sure for his Legacy book, which is why artists aren’t listed.

EDIT: I just realized, Devastator’s forearms are also backwards :LOL
If he was working from a toy as a model, I’m curious who put it together...

I haven't drawn in quite a while but they could have at least pointed them towards each other they are firing off target.

I 'm not even talking about any fancy perspective or anything like that.
