Hi all, this is my first post here. I need some help and I hope someone in the community would be kind enough to please help me out.
I paid 90.50 for a mp 28 rodimus on ebay last week. The seller claimed the figure was authentic. Once I got the figure, I watched videos of the KO and the original and its so hard to tell them apart. I want to make sure that the figure I bought is authentic.
One thing that has me concerned is the serial numbers dont match. On the box near the barcode the numbers read A1216. On the back of the figure, were rodimus waist bends forward, the number reads A0416.
The figure I bought did not come with a matrix. But the fact that my other mp figures serial numbers match on the boxes and the figures has me worried and unsure if I should file a claim. Thanks in advance to whoever can help.

Unfortunately I can't find my MP Rodimus' box to check if the numbers match. Those aren't serial numbers so much as production batch stamps, and those don't necessarily have to match up if the box was produced at a different time, but I'm not sure if TT do that.

The fact that it doesn't come with a Matrix doesn't necessarily clear it, however, as I've seen some KOs on ebay without the Matrix. Only the "TakasaTony" versions come with a Matrix IIRC. There's two other ways to tell:

    1. Compare the face with that of pics of the original online. Because it's copied from the real figure and then painted the KO has a noticeably softer, lower quality sculpt to the face. The details aren't as fine, like the mouth.

    2. How's the chrome on the pipes? Sadly the official MP-28 is famous for its poor quality chrome that rubs or fades off even in package. (I can attest T_T ) If yours is perfect it might be a KO.

    3. How does it roll in vehicle mode? If it rolls well, it might be a KO.

I'd ask you to post pictures but I know new members can't. Do you have a link to the item listing?

The big giveaway on the KO Hotrod is they left out the little triangle in the forehead of the Autobot symbol.

This thread's exactly what I needed too, bought him off ebay last week and starting to suspect it's not official but don't have it in hand yet. Glad there's at least a way to tell.

Wasn't there supposed to be differences with the car mode windows too, like more blue on the official? I know on a lot of KO's you can tell by the print not being punched in for the box's serial numbers.

I don't know if it can be determined form these 2 pics, any way to tell from the box?

@SPLIT LIP The mouth seems to be defined, the chrome does have scuffs on the top where it looks like it was cut to be assembled and it doesn't roll too well in vehicle mode
@Snaku Mine does have the triangle I didn't notice that before when I looked at the KOs on youtube.
@Omega495 Mine looks like the face on the left.

Thanks so much for the replies I feel that I may have an authentic one its just that the numbers not matching had me concerned.

But Just in case @SPLIT LIP here is the ebay info
advanced search ebay item 324154302676 check mark the box sold listings, hit the second search button

Also some copies or batches of KO MP-28 include a matrix while others do not. The official does not include a matrix.

Honestly, it looks like it might be legit to me. I'm not 100% well-versed in legit v KO, but it reminds me an awful lot of the one I owned.

I'm confident you have a legit one. :thumbs2:

EDIT: Also, I checked my Hot Rod. Mine is stamped A0416 as well, and mine is legit.

Hard to tell. Check the following thread, maybe it has the answer or someone might be able to help you.

Great point about numbers not being punched in.

@GR1ML0CK Scary how good the KOs are. Now that I see it the KO face reminds me alot of Mp 09 scaled down obviously. I used to own Mp 09 years ago and the likeness is very similar to that ones Hot Rod face. There is a noticeable difference in the mouth as well as the lines on the sides of the face between the KO and Authentic MP 28.
I noticed on the pic you posted at the top of the arms there seems to be tab slots. Either way these KOs are very good which is bad for collectors like me who only wish to collect official stuff.

Wasn't how the roof tabs in the chest another obvious sign? On my KO, the tab wouldn't go all the way in so I had to shave it down, even though it wasn't really necessary since we are talking less than a mm.

The problem with the KO is over time they really overhauled this one to the point getting a good one was to buy the one with the matrix. I know the original had issues like loose knees and/or chrome pipe flaking issues.

Otherwise, the box usually is the tall tale for me because the pictures are usually not crisp and/or are darker in comparison.

The green haired female figure looks like she's on stage with a mic giving a shout out to the audience before she starts singing.

Just wanna say, looks like I got the real deal. No matrix, serial numbers punched in, face details are sharp and window blue etc.
