There are 2 good reason to making a anime production in Japan:

First, it probably cost a lot less than a Amarica one. (By how underpay they are). so why not ?
And i know about the Unicorn Trilogy. But from what i hear, the entire reason is Cartoon Network.
    Their original plan is:
-Hasbro sent Takara the idea, plot, etc.
-Takara find a studio and make anime.
    - Takara sent back to Hasbro and redub english.
    -???
    -profit

But they didn't expect one thing: CN demand to see a fully 100% completed episode before they agree make the deal. So it become like this:
    - Hasbro push Takara to rush it
    - Rush production, by 6 month
    - Rush english dub
    - Change the whole plan to making episode to episode to catch the schedule
    - ???
    - Stonk

But now it different, thing change now. There are streaming, CN not the only answer anymore. I mean the netflix new show literally call them self a anime, too.

And the second is that anime now grow quite fast. It can bring quite a lot newcomer to the franchise. There are already a lot collector play Japanese robot

Honestly, I'd like to see a TF series in an art style similar to something like Korra, Voltron or She-ra

I'd prefer something more anime-esque like Voltron or Korra than She-Ra. It'd be really neat to see another 2D animated Transformers show.

Definitely, since I doubt the western animation industry is capable to produce anything substantial at the moment. Even just from a statistical likelihood standpoint. The chance of us getting another lazy or downright awful adaption in the west is statistically more likely than getting something that was a good show and also a worthy TF entry.

They'd have more freedom in the east to make something interesting. Trigger would be the ideal studio to make something with Transformers, but it seems the ball is in Hasbro's court as to whether they'll do something or not.

Korra had a fine art style and was competently animated for the most part. Voltron looked good (mostly) and 'She-Ra' is just ... no. The new She-Ra is just all bad, not even the art style is worth noting as it's mostly just pseudo-Anime trash. Maybe instead of hiring people trying to imitate a certain cultures style of Animation perhaps we can just outsource the Animation or project altogether instead of just trying to ape their shtick?

Considering the variety and quality of anime these days, even those targeted towards children/made as commercials, I'd gladly take a dub over an American cartoon. If Cyberverse and that awful-looking WFC show are what we can expect going forward, that is.

Just please, for the love of God, no CGI.

CGI is not the real problem, CGI can be good (already proven by a lot of full 3d show).
The thing is Japanese have develop a deep culture by 2d, its grow so big and have a lot talent artist on the field, Meanwhile for most of the time when they use CGI, it not because it is a artist choice, it for reduce the cost, time, etc... That why they are bad.
3d is just a tool, a very helpful tool. And it help the anime introduce a lot longer than you may realize (since 2 decade ago). a lot of them already use cgi and you probably didn't notice. What i want to say is the problem is never the tool. It is the artist, deadline, etc... A cheap and rush 2d animation can be as worst.

Precisely. Trigger seems to be chomping at the bit to make a Transformers show. I say let 'em go hog wild.

I was more thinking how bad a lot of full-CGI animes are, (Berserk, Godzilla) but I was mostly thinking about how badly I don't want 2D-animated worlds/people and 3D robots.

I know there are (few) CGI anime that are good quality, I'd rather just have decent quality 2D animation again.

I don't think it matters. I want a good Transformers show and I don't care where it comes from.

That said, I think the thing that works against anime Transformers is that we need to remember that Transformers is largely seen as a product for a younger audience in Japan. Obviously it's "to sell toys to kids" on both sides of the Pacific, but the target demographic in Japan seems to always be slightly younger than it is in the west. So if you're expecting a stylish, gritty, cool, at-least-young-teenage-level-of-target-audience type show out of Japan, in line with popular shonen action anime series, you're probably going to be disappointed. For reference, look at what Japan did when they dubbed Beast Wars, Animated, and Prime. 3 shows that either outright targeted the part of the audience that wanted more serious Transformers material that was focused on the fact that it was an actual war (BW, Prime) or managed to put in a lot of mature storytelling and plots under its candy-coated veneer (Animated). All 3 were turned into screwball nonsense comedies full of over-produced, over-acted character tics and complete and utter inanity that sapped almost all the drama out of their source material.

Further, while it's fair to hang some of the unicron trilogy issues on rushed production and the series somewhat having to please two masters (from what I remember, at least. Full disclosure: it's been over a decade since I last watched more than an episode or two of any of the 4 early 2000s Transformers anime), it's not like this is the only thing that's ever held back Japanese Transformers. Havning so far re-watched 2/3rds of the Japanese G1 Trilogy (well, just under 2/3rds. I'm in the low 30s on Masterforce right now), it's clear to see that they don't knock it out of the park when left to their own devices. Headmasters gave them the setup and pre-built world from G1 and they turned in a boring, slow-paced slog that was utterly devoid of characterization for most cast members and far too often resorted to violating the core storytelling edict of "show, don't tell" through both the narrator and characters constantly dumping plot advancements and background information on us via speeches and "as you know" type dialogue and by the endless shilling of characters we were supposed to like or be interested by, such as Chromedome and Sixshot (why make Chromedome cool when you can just have Daniel and others all go "wow, Chromedome is so cool!"?) Masterforce is a show that at least tells a better story with more interesting characters, but its heavy human focus, increasing reliance on stock shonen/sentai anime tropes, and utter disinterest in tying itself at all to the G1 universe it explicitly is still supposed to be part of makes it feel less like a Transformers show and more like a unique sentai-style anime series that was adapted into a Transformers show to fill a quota and that, at the worst of times, is embarrassed by its necessary connection to the Transformers.

Japan is not blameless in making bad Transformers series. Just as the west isn't. It shouldn't matter who creates the next good series. It simply matters that it's good.

I also think that the suggestion that Japan somehow "respects" 2d animation more is both an insult to the number of western animation studios and producers that create solid, entertaining, stylish 2d animated series and an oversimplification based on the exposure bias that most westerners will have to anime, regardless of whether they're consuming it through broader channels (those that make it to air on TV through major distributors) or narrower ones (licensed streaming distributors like funimation or crunchyroll that carry more niche programming or unlicensed fansubs that go even more niche than that.)

Well... The only problem is that any transformers anime will just base its plot on gimmicks, which was super apparent with the unicron trilogy.

I'd like to see a series of anime movies geared toward adults a la the Justice League War series. I'd say start with a few IDW stories like the Wreckers series and maybe retell the UT in more concise stories. I'd love to see a brand new series but I think straight-to-digital movies would help ease them back in while still giving Hasbro another american produced series.to milk evergreen one last time

If they’re going to make a transformers anime they should make a anthology series like do what ifs throughout every series or make completely new universes make each its own continuity and they should also make those straight to DVD movies like how DC does so they can cater to older fans who want a more darker story

There are a lot Transformer anime before Unicorn. Also the fact that Unicorn trilogy is, well, a trilogy. so it make sense when all three of them share some market direction

And tbh, i don't see what so wrong with that. Aren't you want cool toy ?
Whisper: Ooo is the biggest in number of Form in all rider, the gimmick is heavy, yet it is one of the highest quality show toei ever product. Writing speaking, actually everything speaking

The Unicron trilogy was also fifteen years ago.

Also, the focus on gimmicks wasn't really the UT's main problem so much as its general poor quality... and it still managed some good, compelling stories and characters in spite of it. Armada is arguably the only one to truly suffer from its minicon fetch quest early on, but Energon's toy selling was the least if its issues, and Cybertron wasn't really that bad. (in fact its problems are more it trying to be a Shonen/super-robot anime with ridiculous power scales than toy gimmicks)

I think the crux of the argument is that Japan is more likely to put more effort into a TF animated series. Not that they would, or that American can't, but that sensibilities between the societies tends to put greater emphasis on commercial media in Japan, whereas America still struggles to balance quality television with a toyline. The vast majority either suck, or are good but fail to move product and thus die prematurely.

Can't say I agree with you. Especially claiming a good "G1 reboot". I mean, if Cyberverse is your thing, that's all you. But to me, it was garbage.
